Gran Turismo 7 coming "best case scenario" in 2014

There's no way we get GT7 next year. It's just not going to happen -- and if it did, what could it really offer over GT6? Better graphics, sure, but what else? Less than 50 new cars and probably 2-3 new tracks, fine-tuned physics (which JUST went through a massive overhaul). Is that really worth a brand new release so soon? While we're all still knee-deep in GT6, driving our freshly acquired DLC cars on DLC tracks? Just think about that one for a second -- do you really want GT7 so soon?

It doesn't make sense to essentially kill off GT6 like that, especially with this "quantum leap" of DLC we've been promised. Just what the hell will be left for GT7 after all this DLC? It took PD three years to add just 123 cars to GT6 -- maybe two years if we start counting a year after GT5's release with all the DLC cars. But what does that leave, maybe 20 new cars that weren't in GT6 or as DLC? Remember, PD can only do so many in a limited time period and they each take six months to complete. And tracks? 1-2 new tracks? Surely we'll probably be losing some of the lesser detailed tracks already -- or maybe just about all them need to go through a complete re-design or at least a massive facelift, but is one year enough for all that? No chance.

Sure, I understand the PS4 needs a Gran Turismo game and it can't be put off too long. It'll hurt the PS4 if that happens, but it'll hurt GT if it happens too soon, and the fans won't be too pleased buying a brand new game with barely any new content to offer. One year is just not enough development with the way PD works. Sure, they did it with GT3 but those were different days on the PS2, when one car took only a month, and even then the game had less than 200 cars which was one of its biggest drawbacks. But we're not just talking about cars and tracks here -- one year of development time doesn't leave much room for any major changes.

I think two years is the perfect shelf life for GT6, and the perfect amount of time to wait for GT7 with all things considered. Ideally three years would be nice for development time -- but as a compromise to gamers and the PS4, two years should be reasonable. I'm certain GT7 is already under development with Kaz even talking about the PS4's ease of development in several videos already, so the groundwork is just being laid right now. Throw two more years on top of that groundwork and we've already got twice the amount of development time than if it were to be released Q4 2014.

Getting back to the life of Gran Turismo 6, two years is perfect. GT is a large game with a massive amount of replayability. With a new physics overhaul, a new tire model, over 100 new cars, 7-10 new tracks (plus DLC for both), and an entire online world with racing leagues and so on, one year is too short a life for a game like GT6. Speaking for myself, during 2011 and 2012 I didn't really even have GT6 on my mind. I was fine with GT5 and still playing it. I actually only completed it 100% about two months ago. For me, the announcement of GT6 around May was just about perfect timing -- just around then I started to really feel the need for a new GT game, and now as we're approaching the 3 year anniversary of GT5, which is just a few days away, I've started to become a little bored with the game in the past few months -- so maybe three years is a bit too long, but two years is perfect and just about eliminates that period where you're just about completely bored with GT6, but gives you enough time to properly enjoy the game.

Honestly, if I had the choice between a 2014 and 2015 release date, I would pick 2015. It's easy to be greedy and want a new game so soon, but do you really need it? I don't think so -- I know I won't. But like I've said, it's not just a matter of wanting it, it's a matter of it being ready for a proper release. I just don't think one year is enough for PD, even on an easier developmental console in the PS4. Two years is plenty of time and also not too far away for the fans. Just give GT6 a shot to last you two years and we'll all be fine until then. Come December 2015 we'll have milked just about everything from GT6 and be ready for that upgrade to the next generation.

Even though they sold 5.5 million it still was a 5.5 million mistake. It really doesn't matter how much money they mad or will make or breathing room they'll have for the future. It's the mistakes that were made with GT5 and the aftermath of the hacking. They spent more money fixing the trouble rather than making the game better which may be more than the total revenue they received for GT5, which will be taken as a lost. Which to me or any CEO is 5.5 millions of mistakes. This is one of the reason why GT6 had to be written on a new code, which GT5 should have done from Prologue to GT5.

You clearly don't understand video game development.

GT5: P was the first iteration of GT on the PS3. The foundation and gains they made with the engine for that is 100% what they would continue to use for GT5. Considering how long it took to get the game released, there's no way they were going to go back and completely rewrite the code.

GT6 is an improvement upon the groundwork that was done for GT5, it's the natural progression. I'm not sure what PD is going to do for GT on the PS4, whether it will be a new engine or a modified GT6 engine, we'll have to wait and see. That all said, people enjoyed the games (GT5: P and GT5), and PD showed that they were willing to listen to fans (sometimes) and support the game well after release. The amount of money GT5: P and GT5, in Sony's eyes, more than made up for the lengthy development time and post-release issues.

What concerns me is why you're so against Prologue-like games. It's no different than what we're getting these days; basic games with tons of post-release (and day 1) DLC. At least GT5: P launched at $40, though my issue is that it was a glorified demo. If PD plans to do that again for GT on PS4, they'll need to put more effort and content into it, but I digress. Without working for PD themselves, we have no confirmed way of knowing how much time has been put into GT on PS4, thus it's hard to say whether "GT7" on PS4 in 2014 is too soon or not. Let's not forget that there were a number of games released on PS3 and 360 these past few weeks, that will be having the same games release on the PS4 and Xbox One in a few weeks. Depending on the route they go for GT on PS4, is it really all that different? (aside from taking almost a year longer...)

Project CARS is their biggest threat as it's also coming to PS4 in late 2014 so they better get their act together and at least put out a prologue to show they still master their own genre on Sony's console

I would like to see GT7 on PS4 next year, but I don't believe it will happen. PD takes way very long to make their games and they will need 2014 to make GT6 the game it should have been from the start.

And of course 2014 is the "best case scenario" as there's no chance for GT7 in 2013.

PCars will help Sony sell a good bunch of console. It is a good thing to have 2 contenders in the same ring. Both will higher their games. They don't need simultaneous release dates. On the contrary. IMO

I am probably not getting GT6 at all, I doubt I'm the only one, so no way would 2014 be too soon. 2013 wouldn't be too soon either.

As for improvements over 6, there are potentially many. Just make use of the new hardware. I don't want new graphics, there is no point to that. In fact I'd take GT5's standard cars to speed development. I'd like next gen systems to be worthwhile. Better physics, more cars on track, better AI, simulation of environmental effects (track temp, weather, etc).

I don't know when GT7 will come out and I'm not going to guess, but there is plenty that PD could give me personally.

GT7 will come out before GT6...tomorrow.

/Thread...turn of your smart phones, tablets, notebooks and PC´s...got to sleep and tomorrow will be a new speculative day.

Bye...I´m going to sleep.

(Sorry but I don´t sleep since yesterday...more than 24 hours awake...I´m not me any more...)

It would be great to have 2 racing sims next to the 6.498 million shooting games out there.

EDIT: this thread should be in the GT7 topic forums

Call me selfish, but I don't want GT7 rushed.
I wan't it to be a proper racing simulator, not the "overtake as many cars starting from the back via a rolling start as possible within the number of laps we've given you" game that was GT5, and even likely to be the same in GT6.
I wan't them to take their time and think very carefully about every decision they make, not just adding things no one wants (XP system, hundreds of the same cars, a minute amount of premium cars etc.).
They should almost start from scratch, only keeping the already premium cars and tracks and then build the game around these things, adding only what improves the game, not what hinders it. Then I will be satisfied because I see very little in GT at the moment to make me want to buy another one.
Yeah, the things that Kaz & PD gotta do for GT7 are getting rid of standard cars, reduce the number of duplicated models and have the new engine & car sounds that they were working on for GT6.

@Syngamer assuming someone does know something is just you look like :dunce: fool and not thoughtful. I have nothing against Prologue games what so ever. What I do have a problem with is companies making foolish mistake just to please their fan bases. Yes I will agree the GT5 engine made a pathway for GT6 and what is to come, and Kaz clear stated that the CODE for GT6 was rewritten due to the matters that happened with GT5. He also stayed none of the data from GT5 will travle over to GT6 due to the GT5 code being compromised.

I can agree that the funds Sony gathered after the release of GT5P and GT5 mad up for the long development period, though it didn't make of they the funds they had to spend to rectify the situation with the code which cost them a lot more to develop the game. I recall reading a new clip stating that Sony spent close to 6 million to fix the hacking trouble. Can you give one game that sold enough copies to cover that cost?

Addition:
I'm sorry it was 170 million. That 170 filters down to every where else within the company. Software development, testing etc.

Sony is really pushing Poliphony Digital nowadays isn´t it?

But I do not see GT7 released until Q4 2015, A GT7 Prologue perhaps on Q4 2014 but that is too much speculation.

I agree with a lot of people saying that mid to late 2015 is the possible release time frame for GT7.

If it was GT7: Prologue, then I could handle that, if it's for the PS4. It would basically be a barebones GT in proper HD and whatnot, but PD would still have a year or two to work on the full GT7, making a 2015 or 2016 release more logical. But to say a full GT7 might possibly be out next year, for PS4? Sounds rushed.
I don't think it would be rushed remember when the PS4 was in development in 2010 that Kazunori talked about it so I think he had early development kit to begin working on the Gran Turismo 7 game so that's how he can say 2014 he will release of full version or Prologue version I don't think of it rushed. I may get my PS4 in spring time.

The save data was changed. Not the entire code for the game.We got to the code through the save data and that's the only possible way.Now they changed it so that you can't access the code through the save data.It has nothing to do with PSN and PS3's getting hacked.

PD used to take very long to code software for the PS3. Who knows how much easier it is to do the same for the PS4?

How long did it take gt5p to come out after ps3 launch?
I think similar scenario here for gt7 and ps4. If late next year, the sales will be booming. U can also expect the ps4 price to drop by then. I would think Kaz would wait for 2nd quarter 2015 at the latest.

If GT7 comes out in a year it will just be a GT6 port to PS4, I don't see it really happening a different way. I don't want GT to become a once a year title either, I think every 2-3 years is good. If it became an every year title it would mean that we wouldn't keep seeing upgrades added to games because they would be saving it for the next game, like Madden or Call of Duty. I don't know about you guys but I like how Gran Turismo is constantly updated and improved without releasing a new game.

We had GTHD before GT5P which came out about a month after ps3 released.Prologue came out 2 years later.

How on earth did it cost 170 millions, to fix a hacked game? :odd:

People are still hacking the saved data @Dmarc_Atl, I watched my sons friend do it the other night with HIS cracked PS3. For the game data to read the saved data they must be both in the same, basic program shows this. From my understand they way the PS3 was cracked was through a game code. If you find the system code in the game code you will have no trouble in cracking a gaming system. I happened to find this out in class, I'm currently in-rolled at Itt-Tech to finish my degree in gaming/software development. Any crafty software engineer will always and can find ways around a changed code as long it has common pattern.

i hope gt7 takes two year they will drop gt6 and every one will have to go give 400 bucks for a ps4 money i aint got

I would like to propose that much of the development of GT7, at least in regards to cars and maybe tracks, began with GT5. We all know the time and effort PD has put into these 'premium' models (hence their limited number). Given that GT5 and GT6 released relatively late in the PS3's life cycle, I'm under the impression that the car and track models were created with more than just PS3 in mind. Rather than having to create new cars and tracks from scratch for the PS4, they have done the hard work of capturing these objects beyond what was needed for the PS3. More work up front, less work in the long the run.

Kaz has even been quoted as saying GT5 might have 'too much detail' and might be better suited for the next gen console.

Yea I know that its possible to still "hack".But only on older versions or 2.14 not connected to the internet ( though some people still found a work around with a custom firmware for the ps3)You don't need a "cracked ps3" to edit the code or "hack".The PS3 was hacked with custom firmware, it had nothing to do with a video game being cracked.Once again the entire code isn't changed in GT6 ( it is changed a bit in the GT5 for a temporary fix). But the entire save data is changed in GT6.More than likely meaning you wont be able to access the code through it like in gt5.More than likely the only way to access the code in GT6 would be through the game data itself, just like most other games.Which no one has done yet.
