It's free with my original purchase from (and this seems to be What kills me is that I often see posts complaining about the cars being offered, especially comments about "no race carZ :P", and I rarely see the same people commenting in the daily race thread. You know the thread, right? The one where the guys who like to race hang out. If you don't race, then why do you want a "race car"? The definition of which is still unclear to me.
Most people complaining about lack of race cars don't really have a reason to do dailies because PD isn't giving them a reason to come back to it.

the tracks they have in the game are too big and wide to be interesting for slow road cars ( the cars they're adding) and they're not adding new tracks or adding new features.

90% of sport mode is Group 3 and group 4, most cars are incredibly out of date.

And both don’t have free dlc either
Assetto Corsa was 20 euros on Steam and I haven't payed another cent for the HUUUGE amount of content I've downloaded for it. If you want to drive every car in GT7 you either have to grind hundreds of hours or pay quite a lot of real cash.

Edit: I lied. I had to get the Japanese car pack to make the SRP mod work, so 23 euros is the total amount I've paid for AC.

But, since this is a GT thread, and you mentioned that you "bought a PC" etc...what was the total cost of purchasing the PC, and it's accessories, and then Assetto Corsa? Was that total cost worth it?

Also, Assetto Corsa Competizione is free with PS Plus...and I still can't drive it with my controller. So...you paid for a free game? Like, I have these games and I don't play them. They simply are not engaging.

It's only been this way for 28 years now. Do you think that maybe, just maybe, this won't change? This is making me think that these people want a different game, like NFS or Test Drive.

People on this forum got super excited by the addition of tracks from the first game, and the cry is still for more tracks. MOAR MOAR MOAR, but not the MOAR you are giving me, the MOAR that I want.

I do the dailies, literally, daily. At no point in time in the last 3 years of this game have I said to myself "gosh, if I only had the latest version of (enter car name here)" Adding new cars for Sport Mode racing would be somewhat appreciated, but does it make the game better? Nope.

I have been a car enthusiast for my entire life, and there are A LOT of cars to pick from. 12million+ people have 12million+ opinions on what cars should be in the game and none of us get to make that call.

I didn't get a PC solely for Assetto Corsa so it's not really relevant how much the cost was, but less than it would cost me to buy a third of all cars in GT7 with real money, I'll tell you that much, but I'd never do that which is why I'll never drive most of the cars in GT7.

Assetto Corsa Competizione does not interest me one bit. I have no idea why you brought that into the conversation. Oh, and I'm sorry that you're not very good with a controller. Your point being?

I'd say that it's the BoP that has the final say whether if adding new race cars for Sport Mode would be worth it. Having the newer 2020 AMG GT3 model was nice and good enough to replace its 2016-counterpart. The BRZ GT300 is one of my favorite cars for its handling, and the Genesis X Gr.3 was (from what I could remember) a good all rounder when it was new.

But would it matter when a typical Gr.3 race around Watkins Glen is filled with M6 GT3s, because the BoP favors that car more?

exactly

They added the Ford GT...I barely use it.

Not really, GT was built off having tracks that were suited to slower cars, like El Capitan, Autumn Ring, Grindelwald, or had smaller variants of classic tracks.

People on this forum got super excited by the addition of tracks from the first game, and the cry is still for more tracks. MOAR MOAR MOAR, but not the MOAR you are giving me, the MOAR that I want.

That's why you have more tracks, so you have more likelihood of pleasing everyone.

Good for you. A lot of people feel the experience online is stale, and disengage. That doesn't mean they don't like racing, that means that they like racing and GT isn't offering it to them.

Personally I would prefer they add new features, tracks and weather so we are not just doing the same races thing over and over, however I am explaining why people disengage from playing the game.

Ok, and most cars in the game can't be raced properly, because the AI sucks and there's no balanced BoP for road cars to race with other people.

The features don't support making full use of the cars in the game. So when people see interesting cars added that they can't really use then they are going to voice their opinion on it.

It is a discussion forum, nobody said that PD will listen.

If you're that fed up with the lack of "modern" race cars in GT7, why not play ACC? It has all the current GT3 cars that you know and love! No point boxing yourself into one game and then complaining when said game doesn't give you the cars you want. It's stupid.

Ivo Van Roji deleted his Reddit profile along with all of his posts

The fact the responses under his posts were overwhelmingly positive and constructive didn't really matter in the end

IMHO quite a sad state of affairs when as a game developer you can't be open to the most positive feedback possible without fearing for your job
Having met a PD employee a few years ago, I can attest to this. He asked I not share much of what he shared with me/showed me beyond very tight or trusted circles. The studio is very, very, very secretive over everything they do, even when it’s an industry standard practice.

Out of respect for his job security and me wanting to retain a potential contact with the studio for the future I’ve never shared much of my experience. (and plus it’s not like I learned anything revolutionary, mainly just some BTS operational stuff on how they make things - that said I did learn about a few cars coming to the game before launch/DLC additions, like the Cappuccino specifically). I haven’t interracted with the guy in any way in a while, but maybe I’ll be able to safely share one day. He had some cool stories.

Accessibility is the big problem for people who want to do online racing. You need around 70 Safety rating to even get into a Competition server. All races, to my knowledge, are open setup as well. If you are afraid of a tuning sheet you are not going to find a home there. Players will need to hit the books, which is not good for people who want to skip to the driving and battling.

But I agree with you. Not only are there alternatives to Gran Turismo, any racing title with more focus is going to have those additions these players are looking for, and often in better quality.

Personal gripe, 'modern racecars' pretty much being Sports car or Formula (road) racing adjacent when discussing what new cars to be added...

...These are also a modern race cars. The track list naturally makes us prioritize a specific type of car, but we don't always need to stick to that particular type of racing.

A funny note related to this, I was able to get Assetto Corsa Ultimate Edition for $10 in a Steam sale. I sometimes seen sales for even less than that over the years.

I bought a gaming PC myself for around $1,500 and well; the reply I made to the comment above explains what I paid for Assetto Corsa. Though I personally didn't buy the PC for Assetto Corsa, I paid for the computer to be used as a gaming device and something to do work on for some Freelancing. For that, I would say I got my money's worth easily. Not just for Assetto Corsa (though I've gotten a lot of gameplay time out of it, I'll admit). But for other things I've done on it for work or to play a bunch of other games and mods for certain games.

Back to the price though, the price of entry into PC gaming or enjoying Assetto Corsa with mods doesn't have to be that expensive. My first time playing AC for instance was on a slim Dell Optiplex desktop that was around $180 and with a $110 GTX 1050ti Graphics card. and someone could probably get that PC setup for even a cheaper price. Honestly the price for PC gaming varies. It can be from $50 to thousands of dollars.

The thing with the GT3 car requests is I don't think it's necessarily all about the GT3 cars themselves - sure, they'd be nice, and the list definitely needs a refresh.

But it's more a symptom of the actual issue, which is - when was the last time PD did something that changed how Sport Mode played at all? I can't think of anything more recent than adding the championship credit bonuses in mid-2023.

So if the mode itself is static, and the cars/combos they use are static, I really can't blame people for whom the main draw of the game is Sport Mode racing in race cars when they get frustrated and think things are getting stale.

Do we have any proof that this guy actually works for them?

I can't believe that working for a Japanese company and saying publicly that it's unfortunate the management style is Japanese would get you in trouble. Who could've thought
And a really secretive one at that, might as well be poking a Wasp's nest.

It's a shame, hope the guy doesn't get in trouble. Our best look into the development of GT is still that old KAZ documentary released around GT6. It's pretty cool still.

Remember when there was a suggestion forum here on GTPlanet and PD was supposedly looking at it only to be shutdown later on. Ultimately this is Kaz's baby and as long as it continues selling well nobody dares to question his methods or decisions.

The Suggestions forum is still very much open and active. You're thinking of the Kaz Q&A forum.

Yeah that's it, I don't even remember if he ever answered anything.
And then there's the Pitstop Blog...

The issue isn't really a "Japanese culture" at PD, but that PD does not handle its own comms and PR. It all has to go through at least one layer of Sony/PlayStation - in either direction - first. Yamauchi is definitely aware of what fans are saying, as he's brought up people's comments of wanting Car X, Y, or Z every time he Tweets (and even if that was effective, which it isn't, the minimum time window from that being the spark to the car being in the game is close to a year anyway), but he's basically not allowed to respond because of the procedure. There's also the fact he used to absolutely Molyneux* it back in the day.

Even when we do get to speak to him and get the information flowing back this way, it's increasingly a round-table, with other outlets that are often super-excited to be there and ask banal or weird stuff that soaks up time (and every question is translated to and from Japanese, so every minute of interview time takes two minutes of real time), and has a firm "theme" that gets the Sony PR handlers jumping in to stop any particular lines of questioning or answers. Which, you know, that's their job.

I don't see this extremely carefully managed Sony PR front changing any time soon. There's been some subtle changes, but this is how it's been for well over a decade now.

What SIE really needs to do is get an actual and effective community liaison into place. It was tried briefly, back in the Kaz Q&A/Pitstop days, but to my recollection they weren't really able to accomplish much for reasons beyond their control - again, those layers of PlayStation/SIE getting in the way. If they had someone who grasps both what the community wants and what the development team's goals are, and can buffer that to communicate one to the other and vice versa on a semi-regular basis, without excessive interference, we all win.

I'd do it - in fact I'd love to - but given what I do here I'd probably need to sign more NDAs than Prince George's paediatrician... or quit, which would be not-great.

*Peter Molyneux is legend for PR people; they'd have to have handlers on him at all times, because he was supposed to be talking about the current thing they wanted column inches for but he was always eager and proud of what he was working on next - which sometimes wouldn't actually come to anything anyway, due to the nature of game development. A similarly nice chap, but a nightmare for the PR people!

At the end of the day, the lack of communication did not prevent them from delivering GT, GT2, GT3 and GT4. Sure that could be seen as an issue in our era, but that is definitely not the main problem.

Online makes them believe that's what players want which trophy completion says otherwise but it means no where near the effort goes into the one player game anymore.

That was when print ruled all, and places like this were fan sites.

PR is a totally different animal these days, and SIE (which has always been a bit bloaty on the marketing front) has not entirely adapted to it.

Their efforts (or at least their money) are towards organizing international meetings for e-sport players.
There's a difference between money and staff being deployed to host the GTWS Live events and the focus of the game development being Online/Sport Mode.
Following Sport mode pretty closely, I can tell you that (at least in my opinion) the organization process of the Online Seasons (and Daily races in general) has been pretty consistently low-effort, with combos and formats being recycled regularly and a... let's say, very relaxed quality of life implementation process (we're still dealing with some...interesting situations in the current Exhibition season).
Regular online multiplayer on the other hand, aside being pretty empty compared to past games, doesn't get updates since the pre-race weather radar has been added (I think it's almost a full year since that) with no major QOL update for Lobbies since 2022/early 2023...

If you were to ask me, I'd say their current focus of development is probably on adding the already scheduled stuff and work for the next title.
What's aggravating in my opinion is that it seemed that way ever since 2023 (except a couple standout updates like Spec II, which still didn't target online play)

Well, when employed by most companies, in a contract that’s signed once officially hired, there are clauses that advise employees not to give information and especially not to speak on behalf of that company. Especially when not given permission. No doubt he got heat.
