Nostalgic situation?

Trivia: This game has 6 replay-exclusive soundtracks; glowl, mirage, My Precious, obscure, sky scraper and Strike Breaker.

I believe My Precious also plays in some of the pre-race screens - I definitely remember hearing it a few times before the Tokyo Clubman Plus event.

From now I think that GT8 will come as an only PS6 game, the PS5 era is over, when GT8 will released in 2027/2028. That would also make sense, because until now we don’t have any information about the game not even a screenshot.
I think and hope the game will be great and the first real driving simulator.
There is no way gt8 not releasing on ps5. Most likely crossgen with ps5 and ps6.
Ps6 will not have enough players to generate enough sales for gt8 to make it sucessfull. Maybe releasing on ps5 first before ps6 comes out and then rerrlease again for ps6 depending on when ps6 releases

Sooo, anything on that announcement from Nurburgring?
It was mentioned in the update thread that Toyota have a GT time attack booth there:

That's probably what the Nurburgring news is.

Toyota are also showing off the mid engine Yaris that will be competing in Super Taikyu. Maybe they announce that it will be coming to GT in the future.
So if nothing else, we can dispel any rumours that the TGR Cup ending was because of soured PD/Toyota relations.

Nothing from GT's socials themselves though.

Ok, thank you. I guess there's nothing else to ask about it. I'll re-read the article.

We will probably get news of GT8 soon, and launch probably with the PS6 (which 80% will launch 2027) Remember: GT7 got announced 2020, launched early 2022. 2 yrs later. So the 2 years since first announcement theory make sense. Maybe we get an first word at tokyo game show? (september 25)

I expect it to launch on both ps5 and ps6. I dont think ps6 will have enough of a market. Tokyo game show would make sense. Yes we a are past the time we normally would have a new gt reveal. Gt7 was revealed just 2,5 years after gt sport released. And it was supose to be a ps5 exclusive and release in. 2021. Got deleyed proably because they had to make for ps4 as well considering the difficultly it was to get a ps5 at the time

That’s what ChatGPT says about it:

Why GT8 will NOT come to PS5 — The Hard Facts

1. Release Timing: PS5 will be obsolete

• GT8 is expected to launch in late 2027 or early 2028
• The PS5 will be 7–8 years old at that point
• That’s end-of-life territory for any console — way too late for a flagship title

➡️ If GT8 launched on PS5 in 2028, it’d be like releasing GT7 on PS3 — completely backwards

2. GT8 is built for PS6 power

• Full real-time ray tracing
• Advanced AI (Gran Turismo Sophy)
• Complex physics systems
• Dynamic environments: weather, dirt, debris, real-time surface changes
• Targeting 4K120Hz, ultra-low latency, ultra-fast SSD asset streaming

➡️ PS5 physically cannot handle that — not even a PS5 Pro

➡️ GT8 would have to be gutted or downgraded to run on PS5 = not acceptable

3. The PS5 generation was a COVID-era exception

• PS5 launched in late 2020 — right in the middle of a global chip shortage and production crisis
• Console availability was limited for over 2 years
• Sony had to support PS4 longer than intended (GT7, God of War: Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West etc.)

➡️ That cross-gen support was damage control, not the long-term plan

➡️ Starting 2025, Sony is phasing out PS4 & early-gen PS5 cross-support

GT8 comes after that transition is complete — it marks the true start of next-gen

4. GT = Technological showcase — not compromise title
• GT has always been used to push hardware boundaries
• GT3 = PS2 showcase
• GT5 = PS3 Blu-ray & HD gaming leap
• GT8 = expected to be the defining PS6 experience

➡️ There’s no way Sony burns that potential by compromising it for old hardware

➡️ GT8 is meant to say: “This is what PS6 can do. Period.”

5. Polyphony Digital is fully focused on PS6

• GT8 started development after GT7 launched (2022)
• Polyphony is a first-party studio — meaning early PS6 dev kits & system targets
• They’ve had plenty of time to go full next-gen: engine, AI, physics, sound, visuals — everything

➡️ There’s no sign, internally or externally, that GT8 is being developed with PS5 in mind

➡️ Everything points to a clean break from cross-gen development

✅ Final Verdict:

GT8 will NOT release on PS5. Full stop.

It’s being built as a PS6-exclusive, with the hardware, scope, and ambition that the PS5 can’t deliver.

The PS5 cross-gen phase was a historical exception, not the new rule — and GT8 comes after that exception ends.

If you want GT8, in its full glory —

You’ll need a PS6. Period.

No fallback. No compromise.

I'm willing to guess that in raw polygon power the PS6 will not have much more to give over the PS5. It will be all about Ray Tracing. As such there is literally no reason not to put GT8 on PS5.

Quite a bit to digest from that reliable industry source, ChatGPT, but anyways:

1. Release Timing: PS5 will be obsolete

PS5 will be superceded, but far from obsolete. It will have a massive install base which will be difficult to ignore.

2. GT8 is built for PS6 power

Sure, but more than half the items listed GT7 is doing on PS5.

3. The PS5 generation was a COVID-era exception

It was, but we're still in a cost of living crisis and the economic future is far from certain. Console releases are hitting high prices with diminishing returns. It's a whole different ball game.

4. GT = Technological showcase — not compromise title

Like GT7?

5. Polyphony Digital is fully focused on PS6

While updating GT7 monthly ish on PS5 AND PS4....

You’ll need a PS6. Period.

Nobody (outside of SIE and PD) know this. It might be PS6 exclusive and might be cross gen. There are some very strong arguments for a cross gen release that you, well ChatGPT, hasn't addressed.

Funnily enough of you ask ChatGPT for arguments for GT8 to release on PS5 it does a very good job of it. It all depends on how you phrase the question. It doesn't KNOW the answer to this question. Period.

Absolutely right! Nobody knows it at this time, hopefully we’ll get any news at the end of 2025.

Is a large-language model. It has no knowledge of its own, it merely guesses the next likely word in each sentence from the previous one based on the - usually weighted - data it's (stolen and) been trained upon and the prompt(s) given. This is "wisdom of the crowd" but from an entity with no knowledge or memory, and dressed up in a shiny new suit.

As it's not possible for it to be trained on actual data on this subject, because there is no data it can steal, there is nothing in here that can be taken as fact. The output here is basically a summary of what people have speculated on relevant internet forums and in articles and, as such, is of no more value than any random post anywhere.

Worse, in some cases, as this is an absolute fabrication:

Starting 2025, Sony is phasing out PS4 & early-gen PS5 cross-support
I don't know what "cross-support" means here, but Sony has already started to phase out the PS4 generally - production for Japan ceased in 2021 except the 500GB Slim, with that also ending this April - but there's no particular known end for PS4 games at all. About all we know is that PS4 games will no longer appear as PS+ "key benefits" from January 2026, but there's no sign of the end of development for PS4 games, never mind PS4 support (or "cross-support", whatever that is).

How it plans to phase out "early-gen PS5 cross-support" escapes me. In software terms there is no difference between the various PS5 iterations, and hardware changes are only intended to reduce power consumption/heat generation and increase storage capacity. Except the Pro, obviously. Support for the "early-gen" PS5s should continue through to the end of the generation's life - likely in 2030 or, if the PS4 is a new standard for support, later.

someone on the other thread said "gt is lost" and that phrase just got in my head. thinking abt it, if kaz doesnt make a good game and finally deciding if he is making a game for esports or classic gt mode the franchise might slowly die. kaz is lost. its more deep than just odd car list choices, its 6 yr old game design contradictions. my grammar is worse tho, sorry.

Hey Gemini, ChatGTP says that Gran Turismo 8 will not be released for PS5 but for PS6 only. What do you think?

That's an interesting claim, but based on the information available, it's highly speculative at this point. Here's what we know about Gran Turismo 8:
* Gran Turismo 8 is officially in early development. Series creator Kazunori Yamauchi has confirmed this.
* No official release date or platforms have been announced. While development is underway, it's still a long way off. Most estimates suggest a release window between 2026 and 2028.
* The PS5 is a confirmed platform for GT8. Some sources explicitly state that the PlayStation 5 is the confirmed platform, and that the game will likely continue to expand its feature set for the PS5.
* Speculation about PS6 is common, but not confirmed. Given that Gran Turismo games often push the boundaries of PlayStation hardware, and with the PS6 rumored to potentially launch around 2027 or later, there's certainly speculation that GT8 could be designed to take full advantage of the PS6, or even be a cross-gen title (releasing on both PS5 and PS6). However, this is not an official confirmation.
* Polyphony Digital (the developer) has a history of long development cycles. They take their time to perfect each game, which is why there are often several years between main entries.
In summary, while Gran Turismo 8 is definitely happening, saying it will only be on PS6 and not PS5 is a strong claim that isn't supported by official announcements. It's more likely that if the game releases closer to the PS6's launch, it might be a cross-generation title, or at least heavily optimized for the PS5 with potential enhancements for a future PS6.

😄

I don't think GT is lost. There are certainly questionable content decisions but we're in a time period where they have to create these cars for future use, and create the backlog of vehicles to give consumers the full scope of automotive history. It takes time and resources but it doesn't happen in a few years. The UX definitely needs some attention as well, but that might be a consideration after the fact with feedback provided from the end users.

Both multiplayer/esport can exist while a great single player can also thrive. Think of Porsche, they need consumer cars (single players) in order to sell sports cars (esports)

Most statements here are hypothetical, & PD&Sony would make loads of more money if they release GT8 also on PC, but the issue of PC & PS not just PS5 vs PS6 is another financial&technological debate altogether.
