PlayStation had a presentation in/for China today and Kaz was on it (video timestamped to his appearance):

I'm not going to pretend I know what he said at all, since I speak neither relevant language, but it's an appearance by Kaz so it's noteworthy.

Here is translation from Chinese subtitles using Google Translate. I think part regarding "romantic trip in a sports car / sports car romantic journey" is meant to say the Gran Turismo game listening to what Kaz was saying.

Kazunori Yamauchi
Chinese gamer friends. I am Kazunori Yamauchi, producer of the Gran Turismo series.

The Gran Turismo series has so far about 28 years of history. From classic sports cars to top supercars, even electric cars.

We have included so far more than 500 different vehicles and always pursue the ultimate precision details, whether it is the shape or the driving experience.

We all strive for excellence. Especially this time PS5 Pro, will also be sold in China. We are looking for the PS5 Pro version of Gran Turismo 7 completely upgraded. Players can turn on ray tracing, enjoy racing at 60 frames per second. 120 frames can also be achieved through PSSR technology and high frame rate game mode. Enjoy a romantic trip in a sports car.

We know that China has lots of car enthusiasts. For the Chinese automobile industry, a booming development. Through my recent visits to China, I have deeply understand excellent performance everywhere you look.

I was impressed by the beautifully designed car. This year we had the honour to meet the Xiaomi team and met with Mr. Lei Jun. For example Xiaomi SU7 Ultra and future models such as Xiaomi Vision GT will gradually join the sports car romantic journey.

In the future, we hope to travel through sports cars delivered to global players. The charm and romance of China's cutting-edge electric vehicles to this end. We must cooperate with the Chinese auto industry, establish close working relationship.

Looking forward to more car enthusiasts joining GT racing. Join hands with us, experience the joy of driving together.

Thank you all.

It's a lot of assumptions and guesses but could the desire of Chinese car manufacturers to promote their cars accelerate the development of cars for Gran Turismo? I assume it's easier to license the cars, and they're probably willing to share CAD files and other car data with PD so that their car reaches potential buyers.

Got a question that I'm wondering if anyone can answer.
If I did a fresh install of GT7 on an account that's never played it before, would I be able to boot into the game before the updates finish installing and play Offline Mode on version 1.00?

It depends on which version you have on the disc. In offline mode, you can only play music rally (and arcade?) regardless of the version.

Yeah I'm just wondering if I'd be able to boot into Arcade mode and see how the physics have changed. I do own the disc version.

This should work theoretically, assuming you are quick enough to cancel the game updates or unconnected from the internet to not get them at all.

It should be no different to when you download an update as soon as PS puts it live, while the server is still checking for the previous version - it'll give you a "you're on the wrong version, please update" message (or a "couldn't connect" message if you disconnect your internet) and then boot into Music Rally/Arcade only mode.

I sure hope some of these new EV's have an option for simulated gears (in game). When it comes to EV's that's my biggest issue (other than the horrendous "sound" they make). Whether you tend towards automatic or manual transmissions (in non EV's obviously), you still have gears... and you can utilize that info as a tool for cornering/braking speeds (what gear for which corner). Without the gearing, it just seemingly takes a tool away from you, and makes an already somewhat lackluster experience (due to the "sound" issue) even more "meh"... I want to like these EV's. I REALLY do. The implementation of them in-game is usually the issue. Not only is the driving experience lackluster, but there's very little to actually do with them in the single player "career". So they tend to get a drive or two and then just end up collecting dust in the garage.

Well, might be two of the last four cars for December reveal.
This is my worry. Hence the hope for at least SOMETHING to make them a bit more dynamic to drive and/or a place to use them in-game.

I very much doubt the Xiaomi and this would arrive in the same update. Aren't these two (BYD/Yangwang and Xiaomi) big rival companies? I assume these brands would prefer to be included in separate updates.

Also, this seems to be a recent partnership, unlike the Xiaomi. But I could be completely wrong in my assumptions.

I don't know if this was ever mentioned before but I just found out I can play my Spotify music WHILE playing GT7 on my PS4, totally gobsmacked....happy too

I found this out totally by accident, just got a Spotify account and D/L the app on my PS4, thinking it would stop playing when I started GT7 and it just kept playing, as I mentioned, totally gobsmacked... lol

Isn't this true for all games???

Hey guys,

I'm still having issues in Sport mode specifically (lobbies are fine). I'll be waiting in Sport mode and will get a gray box in the bottom right saying PSN has dropped or something like that and I'll be booted. Haven't been able to enter a sport mode event since last weekends nations run. No issues with time trials.

Any recommendations on what I can try beside hard resets on ps5 and router? Internet speeds look fine.

Edit: okay and it worked just now.. Consider me puzzled.

Gran Turismo making a splash in China will increase their stocks dramatically. It also seems as though the Chinese brands are far more willing to work with PD to get their cars in the game. The potential addition of the U9 Extreme to the car list soo soon after making headlines would be extraordinary. Is this the future? Exciting times indeed.

All this news about Polyphony doing things in China reminded me of this from 2016.
Nearly a decade later, and nothing came of it sadly. But maybe this new interest in Chinese cars & the Chinese market in general could get the ball rolling again.
