There are quite a few things that bother me about this Spec III. There must have been some unforeseen circumstances. I don't buy the “we've been stockpiling the circuits for a year and a half to celebrate 100 million sales with a Spec III when that number is reached” argument.

We may all had in our minds that PD was storing the new modeled tracks to make a more impactful launch for GT8 on PS6. Possibly for December 2027 as a 30th anniversary, but maybe a year earlier I don't know. In the meantime, they would have released the same regular updates adding new vehicles (and other usual content), again keeping the most iconic ones aside for GT8.

When I say that the 100 million sales are probably just a pretext, it's because in my opinion the plans have changed. Not PD's, but rather Sony/PlayStation's.
The appointment of a new CEO with the arrival of Hideaki Nishino last April, a probable change in overall strategy for the PS5 with an extension of its lifespan, and then this special Asia State of Play which announces a price drop for the PS5 in Japan (the equivalent of €310 only !). They are clearly trying to revive momentum around their console, which is now approaching its fifth year.

If PD originally planned to release GT8 on PS6, they now find themselves having to postpone their project, leaving them with one more year or two of low incomes to sustain their expanses. This brings us to this Spec III, accompanied by a paid DLC.
I'm really not a fan of paid additional content. But if my assumption is correct, they unfortunately have no choice but to implement this strategy. If I was in place, I would have just charged for the new circuits, which require much more work than new events. The very structure of “World Circuits” lends itself to DLC imo.
I quote myself to corroborate my argument with information that was discreetly leaked last night at The Game Awards.

Sure PS5 will still be supported until 2027, but same goes for the PS4.
The PS6 is still probably a long way from its release, just like GT8 if it were to be a launch title.

PD needs money to stay alive until then, I don't think that was the originally planned timeline for the developer. The schedule has definitely be rearranged at Playstation since April.

Third party support still being there does not mean Sony themselves support it.

Outside of PD and MLB The Show (which even that stopped the PS4 version this year), the last first-party Sony PS4 game was in 2022. Every other Sony studio besides PD has moved on long ago.

Glad I searched before posting my question - I'm really noticing the downshift protection, and I'm glad it's not just my imagination (or my controller/game)... I must have missed about 10 downshifts yesterday and thought that the latest update might be responsible - glad to hear that it is there on purpose though, even though it is a bit annoying already.

If GT8 is in active development (rather than the usual "next game is always in development even before the previous one is launched") then it's getting it. PD doesn't directly get money from game, DLC, or MTX sales. It gets money from partnerships and (primarily) SIE to make Gran Turismo.

What a SIE is ? I don't know this as a french.

Sony Interactive Entertainment
Thanks.

Well... Let say you know your "pet" studio have to postpone their next game for a year or two (due to a postponed next Gen of console) but it still have to pay its employee during this period, it is not inconceivable they would ask them to push for paid content. To balance between maintenance costs of PD's team and the dwindling revenue that comes with the game getting older and selling less.

Again PD doesn't receive money directly from games/DLC/MTX sales.

If GT8 is in active development, it will be receiving funding from SIE. Paid DLC isn't relevant to cashflow.

I understood that well. But at the end of the day, SIE still needs to make money here and there so they can redistibute it as salaries at PD's. Asking one of their studios to make a small effort by participating in the overall effort with a DLC would make perfect sense in this perspective.

Just completed my first of the Power Pack endurance races.

2 things I've noticed that have been issues.
  • The results screen only tracks the player's number of pitstops from when they resumed the session, while for the A.I. it tracks all pitstops. Contrary to the results, I did not somehow complete this race with only 2 pitstops.
  • Likely due to the amount of fuel left in the fuel tank being remembered by the Progress Data saves for when you next decide to resume, the A.I. start severely miscalculating fuel on pitstops. e.g. if an A.I. had 30% fuel saved by the Progress Data, when you next resume it thinks that 30% is actually 100% of the fuel tank capacity, and will only fuel up to 30% at pitstops. It further miscalculates towards the end of the race where say you need only 50% to get to the end, it will fuel up to 15% (50% of the 30% it assumes is the full tank). This eventually would lead to them pitting every lap by the end, or going around the track with no fuel on the final lap.
Oh and the Spa 8 Hour race win awards 4 million credits, for those wondering that.

Congrats for your victory. I finished my 6 hours Suzuka. Now planning to race 8 hours spa. What is your advice to me about this race? Any tips? I see that you made 2 pit stops. How you managed this? What was your fuel map and tyre strategy? So sorry for much questions🙏

Thanks.

Running PD is a lot cheaper than studios like NaughtyDog and Santa Monica based in Los Angeles and their head count is smaller than those studios as well, I don't think budget is an issue.

The "2 pitstops" thing is a bug. I did closer to 7 I think. Can't remember exactly.
As for tips, the main ones I have are:
  • Watch out for cars slowing down at Eau Rouge. Keep enough distance, and you should be able to time your pass with a lot of overspeed at the top of the hill.
  • Watch out behind for cars coming up the hill while you're on the pit exit road rejoining the main track.
  • If using Fuel Mix 6 for a whole stint, you'll need Racing Hard tyres.
  • A normal pace Fuel Mix 1 stint is best done on Racing Medium tyres.
  • Racing Softs last about 30 minutes. I used them in my final stint.
Hope some of that helps.

Thanks for the tips🙏 so if I choose fuel map 6 and hard tyres for all the race can be enough I think? Or should I use map1 and mid-tyre to the finish? Every pit same strategy i mean.

First way: Hard tyres - Map6
Second way: Mid tyres - Map1

Not as annoying as waiting for the downshift of an M4 GT4 car in ACC.

I use Map 1 & Medium Tyres until I get to the lead. After that, if I'm able to stay in the lead with a comfortable gap, I switch to Map 6 & Hard Tyres.
Also keep an eye on the weather radar. There wasn't any rain in my race, but it might happen in yours if it's random.

Rather mundane and really not that important but I thought I’d bring it up. I’m really liking the sound of the VW desert racer. For the most part it sounds like a hopped up aircooled VW.

That being said, it’s a bit of a shame when you jump back into the stock VW Beetle 1200 or Typ 2 Sambabus. The exterior and third person sounds are just off. The Beetle 1200 is way too muffled and smooth with the wrong tone. The Sambabus just doesn’t even sound like a VW at all in my opinion (The sound used for it is actually the same used back in GT5 just slightly modified with a higher RPM).

However the funny thing is the interior sound accuracy for both have always been almost spot on. I never heard any other game get a closer representation of those cars sound from a first person perspective. That’s something I notice PD excels with. The interior sound models of their cars are some of the best.

I realize multiple vehicles could use sound improvements but since they added the desert racer Beetle in the Power Pack with a much more accurate sound, the stock old VWs in the game just sound and feel very dated now.

It’ll probably never be important enough to PD to completely change their sound models but I know it’s been done before. Take the Toyota 2000GT for example.

Didn't want to multi-post, but this has been on the news page for a couple days.
They're doing a log-in reward thing again.
The prizes are relatively small by the looks of it, but it's something.

So much generosity... you shouldn't PD, you shouldn't ! It is too much !

Best prize is less than what we get every week for doing 3/5 weeklies...

That reminds me to ask, but are the Power Pack-exclusive cars even available for use on the PS4? Since you can only buy them through the PP menu on the PS5, that would lock those cars from availability on the PS4 (unless, of course, you're insane enough to have this game on the PS5 and PS4).
I Bought the Power Pack and finished a couple or races to unlock one of the prize cars.
I Shut down the PS5 and fired up the PS4 Pro.
The car is my garage and available to use.
