That's how I've been playing lately. With mainly the cars from the first game and no cars later than 1997(with exception of the '02 Viper). Also added all brands as a "What if...?" all the brands got on board with Kaz back in 1997.

The 1990s were a good time where 160 hp to 250 hp was well enough to satisfy car enthusiasts. Above that required $$$. Amazing history of road and race cars.

It was a leap of faith?
Sure, but my post was quoted and doesn't mention any update in any way so it makes very little sense to quote me and ask that question of me. Also we have an update thread. Also we have wishlist threads.

My post is a crop of a screengrab of the promo video I quoted, about GT1's HiFi mode, and points out the mis-spelling of the game's title. That's it.

I had a dream that I interviewed Kaz and he was so impressed by my questions and the points I raised that he offered me the job of game director for GT8. Then I personally designed the best GT-Mode ever, I made sure there was a motor sport career ladder with start positions in Europe, Japan and the USA that was as big as my GT-Mode and hired a Horizons developer to design a mode where all the track were on a map linked tog ester via their access roads allowing you to drive to your race you want to enter and there would be enough things to do in it that it would be as big as my GT-Mode. That was a good dream....

Interestingly enough, I believe that may also be Jordan's dream too...

He is a few more steps ahead of you ...

You might want to start interviewing Jordan first....

That would be your best chance.

Found something funny.

Didn't know the stock market in the Used Car Dealership gets completely refreshed between updates.
"Hondacoin" went from crashing to being on the way up lol.

I've noticed in GT7 Renault has gotten a lot of love. Between update cars (R4, Kangoo, Espace F1, Twingo, Avantine, Captur) and especially recently, Engine Swaps, there is a lot to feast on for Renault fans, and arguably fans of french automobiles in general. They definitely have one of the most diverse non-japanese lineups in the game, and I'd kill for that level of variety for other makes (particularly those that focus too heavily on one or two model lines, as many do)

It was like that in GT sPort as well. Clips, Meganes, R.S.01s. Not to mention all the OP speed love the Gr.4 FF and MR Meganes got in Sport Mode events. ;)

If only we had a proper "Coupe de France" series of events like in old GTs (I think GT5 had 2 maybe? One in lower levels and one unlocked at lv15 maybe?). I know there is the cup series, but come on, who ever races them? Before the big 3 were added, I remember we used to grind through the first race of the US series (@BMB), quit and restart the series, but now...

This.

Imagine if every other brand got the Renault treatment, GT7's car list would be unmatched. They came up with such a nice variety from Renault (and previously, Suzuki as well), while other big brands like Chevrolet and Subaru are stuck to countless variations of the same models - which is not a bad thing for itself, having all Corvette generations is a good thing after all. The problem is these two brands as a whole still feel inevitably monotone.

They recently added the FTO, which gave Mitsubishi a little breath of fresh air, since it was (and still is, to an extent) dominated by Lancer Evos. Mazda also suffers from this with the Roadster - watch them add another NA/ND variant before a proper NB/NC.

At the end of the day, it all comes down to priorities as usual. In my opinion, PD should really avoid including Camaros, Corvettes, Imprezas and BRZs at least for a while and focus on entirely new models from Chevrolet/Subaru, for example, because there are oh so many. I won't list things here so it doesn't end up looking like a wishlist.

In any case, the role of the manufacturers themselves shouldn't be underplayed. PR teams change, attitudes change, some just can't see the point of it - especially when it comes to old cars that they're not currently selling and can't see any return on investing their limited adbucks.

It's not just about what PD wants (which, yes, is one aspect), but what it can get.

There are not many Camaros in the game. It's missing every gen between 1st and 6th. This is an issue with other American brands as well. In GT7 they die in the early 70s and resurface in the late 90s. :P

With regards to Chevrolet itself the more interesting cars besides the Camaro and Corvette come from Opel/Vauxhall and Holden. I don't see much interest in licensing Holden (it's dead sadly), and both Opel and Vauxhall now belong to Stellantis so don't know if they're interested in licensing cars from GM era.

I'm surprised GT7 doesn't have the Mazda RX-3, myself. Nor the Cosmo. RX-7 FB is also a beloved car without a presence.

When it comes to Subaru there's the Legacy and Alcyone... Maybe a Forester? The Vivio is a kei car and there are kei car events in the game.

It's very hard to cater to everyone. I don't mind modern cars but my real love is cars from the 60s through the late 2000s. It usually depends on my mood. Currently I'm in a 90s vibe so missing the 348 or F355. :D

raises hand Say, in the next survey, can you all please add “bring back grid starts” to all races like the first four Gran Turismo games? There are grid starts in a handful of World Corcuit races and Grid Starts are in the Power Pack. I mean, why have a count down to race start when the leader is half way around the circuit?

Bc the ai Is so bad now they had to do it this way

Kazunori Yamauchi has actually said why it's set up like that, and it isn't directly related to the relative ability of the AI.

I'd dig out a quote but I'm on my phone and comfy, so don't want to. It's basically the idea of everyone being able to have a race with some other cars appropriate to their ability though, which you can see by the way they break into packs over a race.

I definitely get that in my SOPHY Custom Races. I'll be in battle packs throughout. Big difference is the custom race starts are nose to tail. Sometimes the cars even fan out at the start, similar to a full course yellow restart.

I only just realized that today but.. Where is the road version for the Volkswaggen Beetle Gr.3 ?

This may have already been answered back in GT Sport days but I skipped this game.
Nothing like a line of code referring to some kind of a Gen III Beetle anywhere, even in GT Sport ?

I find the case of this car quite strange.

I think the reason why AI cars break into packs is caused by the sum [or parameters] of what makes them faster/slower & the average speed they have. It's not factually true the other statement since we the players have been asking for better AI and/or options for choosing the AI cars ourselves with all the other factors like tires&downforce&HP etc. Since it is almost all about winning or at least getting podium, the packs of AI cars below the top 5 in front are irrelevant. Unless we crash or drive off the track only then the speed of the rest of the AI car bunch will have some relevance since we must pass them to gain leading position again.
Not relevant for the custom race feature obviously.

Struggling to work out how this is a response to my post, but you're welcome to dig out the Yamauchi quote if you wish. Essentially it's all set up for the majority of people - who aren't like us folks who sit online and talk about it all the time - of can have a race against an AI car.

It doesn't work great for the upper echelon, but it wasn't really supposed to; PD has plenty of talented racers who set the gold times for various things, and the fact they can stuff the regular AI won't have escaped them.

The fact the car you just passed appears in the bottom-right corner in every race (and you can't turn it off without turning the HUD off) is part of this idea combined with the whole car encyclopaedia thing.

The AI would be so much better if it would really differentiate by skill level. Even the old AI can be fairly good. It just is instructed to behave like a moron.
Why not have a real good AI at professional level? Stuff it if mere dupes like me can't complete everything on a real competent level, you have intermediate level for that.
