Question, but how much input do the manufacturers have when PD hosts the Manufacturer's Cup? Wouldn't you think that, if they cared that much, that they'd force/ask PD to represent their brand using their latest race cars (or fictional Gr. 3 equivalent)? I chose Hyundai for the Manufacturer's Cup and wasn't allowed to choose the Genesis Gr.4 anymore--makes sense, but I wonder if it's a decision by PD or Hyundai to "force" the player into the newest car, which is kinda jank because of the difference between FF Elantra and FR Genesis Coupe.

There's also the question of why there are certain brands that aren't represented. Alpine, arguably very popular right now thanks to F1, doesn't participate (but Renault does, even though they themselves have positioned Alpine as their motorsports department). Suzuki is the only brand I can think of that could think of that technically couldn't/shouldn't've been able to participate because they only had the Swift to start out with until the VGT Gr.3 came along.
1.- Besides official partners (Toyota and Mazda and formerly Genesis) most likely brands don't care more than a simple social post if they win/get a podium
2.- Probably it is too complex to build a GT3/Gr3 version of the A110?? I remember PD stated than creating fictional Gr3 cars on certain models was kind of complex (e.g. The Peugeot RCZ as they had to change the drivetrain from FF to MR), but at the end only PD knows and we will never know

Just saw in the Toyota Japan-only competition promotional art that Sportsland SUGO is one of the sponsors.

Though I guess Yas Marina sort of half-counts, we still haven't seen any new circuits added to GT7 set in the Asia-Oceania region since launch.
We heard Mobility Resort Motegi was scanned a while back and is presumably in development, but Sportsland SUGO would be another cool choice from Japan.

Though it was all the way back on GT Sport, Polyphony has added one of the less mainstream Japanese tracks before, with Autopolis.
So although this competition sponsorship likely doesn't have any deep connection to Polyphony, the track does have a chance of showing up in the future...
maybe at the launch of GT11.

If nothing else, it's cool seeing the Sportsland SUGO logo & Gran Turismo name in close proximity on official promo art :D

Compared to building any car from scratch with references already which takes nine months if done in-house (previously six then, perhaps even shorter if outsourced), I remember hearing that fictional racing cars based on existing cars could take up to a year or more as the modeling team and artists have to conceptualize what a fictional racing version of a particular car would look like, to the point where reimagining the car in a different layout would be necessary (as with the case of the Peugeot RCZ Gr. 3/Gr. B).

As for the Alpine A110 GT4, Polyphony can easily model that with no problems (licensing notwithstanding) as it is already a real car to begin with.

You also have to remember that Bugatti has yet to have any Gr. 3 car even if they have a Veyron Gr. 4. I remember reading somewhere that the VGT and Veyron were supposed to have Gr. 3 versions in GT Sport, but did not materialize. And because the Veyron has long since been discontinued (and so would be the Chiron), I think a possible Gr. 3 car that would make sense for Bugatti would be the Chiron Pur Sport, much like the Suzuki Swift Sport Katana Edition Gr. 4 was based on the rare Katana Edition model for the Dutch market.

Just a fun fact, the last update tweet have now +12K likes. The last time an update tweet have more than 12K likes was the Spec II update one back in October 2023.
This is a good message from the gaming community, and it's reassuring for those who remain committed to a more traditional gameplay style. We still exist, despite what those who make a lot of noise might say or ask for.

@Jordan Hmmm... 🤔🤔 Shall we look forward for this event? 😏
I think many folks will look forward to it. Should be a lot of fun battling and action out there.

I find this factoid so bizarre to me, because I can guess that a lot of that time is consulting with the manufacturer to make sure their original, Gran Turismo design passes their muster--it makes cars like the Corvette and NSX Gr.3 cars, for example, make no sense to me when GT3 (or GTE?) variants already existed (I know in the case of the NSX not technically, but PD and Honda were already in bed when it came to teasing the NSX for like 5 straight years. The Corvette I can kinda understand though, but wouldn't you think GM would have the final say vs Pratt Miller?).

Like obviously these conversations have to happen when you create a completely original race car (like the 4C, Genesis Coupe, and RCZ), so why waste time creating something original with cars that do have real race cars?

I’m so glad to see all the insane repercussion the Twingo brought to GT7. It’s the ultimate proof a car doesn’t need to be modern, fast or expensive to be legendary. The Twingo is peak personality.

I really hope Polyphony learns something valuable from this for future additions.

I wonder if a future paid DLC would be a series of races like the Power Pack, or could it be another unique experience? In the latter regard, I could definitely see some sort of Pikes Peak DLC being added, especially since there are notable changes in air pressure, temperature, and oxygen as one ascends. Maybe it could be a DLC dedicated to hillclimbs in general, and would include both Pikes Peak and the return of the Goodwood Hillclimb.

Alternatively, I wonder if Formula E could arrive to GT in this way? Though I don't think they'd create entire circuits just for paid DLC, even if they're the relatively unique Formula E ones. Plus I'm not sure if PD plans to add a car from a particularly special/successful team like Jaguar or Nissan, versus creating an original model based on the most recent Formula E design, sort of like how we have the F3500-A and F3500-B in place of some early-90s F1 cars. Perhaps it could even be called the FE-A, or something.

Pikes Peak coming in GT7 ? => Peak
Hillclimb as a DLC ? => I'm definitely out.

Doubt track as dlc will ever come to GT7 or GT8. They dont want to separate sport mode player base with dlc though Pike Peak as only tt has little more chance.

I also see many people criticizing GT7 because of its car list and the models being added, but I talked to a friend of mine and he told me that Gran Turismo isn't just a racing game.
It's also a driving game.
I'm so sick of this line. GT7 is a racing game, we don't need to pretend that it's actually some other secret genre just because the actual racing isn't very good. If it had an open world map or even just some point to point drives then maybe this would mean something.
Since there are several game modes in it that don't just involve racing, as there are also license tests and mission challenges, in addition to the special events present in past games, although players spend most of their time participating in races in the game.
Almost all of the license tests and missions are either races, single lap time trials, or single sector time trials. All normal for a racing game. The only actual exceptions are the drift challenges and fuel saving missions, but how many people actually spend time on those.
Furthermore, the game offers the possibility of driving not only expensive exotic cars with powerful V12 engines or racing cars with huge spoilers, but also common road cars that perfectly fit the financial reality of many people, giving everyone the possibility of finding in the game the car they own in real life.
It's one of the features that made the game most famous.
Road cars are fine, but they don't balance well unless you and some friends are willing to go through a whole bunch of testing and tuning to bring them to some sort of parity/BoP before racing them.

Would someone care to educate me as to why the Twingo has such popularity and impact? No hate on the Twingo; genuinely curious.

For as much as GT7 touts itself as educating players about car culture, the in–game descriptions and conversations are somehow more bland and less informative than AI generated word salads...

I can only say why I myself was happy to see it:

  • It is a car of my childhood/youth (it was built for 14 years (i had to look that up))
  • Due to the long production time the chance that also many others consider it a car of their youth is high
  • The design/shape was special, I never liked it. For me it is ugly like a Fiat Multipla. But it does have a lot of character.
  • The colors are so 90s (my childhood), i like that
  • It was affordable and it was very common in European cities
  • You could still buy one today

I'm just giving my point of view.
You don't need to get bothered about it.
Especially since the game isn't just about sport mode to be forced to only have racing cars.
If you want a game like that, entirely focused on motorsports, go play i Racing, Assetto Corsa Competizione, or Le Mans Ultimate.
And one more thing.
I'm not saying this because I want to categorize Gran Turismo into a secret genre.
If for you it's just a racing game, for me it's a driving/racing game.
This genre exists on various gaming platforms.
It's always been that way since the first game.
PD tried to change that with GT Sport and the result wasn't very good, because I remember that this game at launch divided many opinions, and the game's community after that was completely divided between those who played GT since the first game and are glad with any type of car and those who started playing from GT Sport and only care about Gr.3 and Gr.4 race cars.
And because it's about driving/racing doesn't mean it only has to involve racing cars and motorsports.
That's how I interpret the game's slogan.
It's the real "driving" simulator, not the real "racing" or the real "motorsport" simulator.
I think "driving" encompasses more than just racing.
Although the game involves a lot more racing, that's where the player spends most of their time in the game.

Probably because of this meme if I had to take a wild shot in the dark  It references the old M8 GTE meme, so it's been around since at least 2018 and I guess just snowballed from there. Rauh Racing and their racing Twingo certainly boosted the meme status in the last year or so.

I was a teenager when it first came out, and I really wanted one.
I think most people just found it cheap, fun and practical.
Here is a small list of things that contributed to its success in my opinion:

  • Its quirkiness, both exterior and interior design were very unique at the time. The radio antenna being located in the mirror for example (as previously mentioned by @Famine).
  • Its modularity, I remember it as a small car which felt big inside, full of small compartments, with a wide and unobstructed dashboard plus the sliding rear seat (which was a first I seem to recall) which you could turn into something of a bed. I specifically remember finding the sliding rear seat idea brilliant. Feels so obvious now.
  • Its minimalist and cost effective approach, it was a very accessible and no fuss car. Bare minimum equipment, one engine and four paint colours for the very first iteration.
  • And most importantly I'd say, the marketing campaign was very very creative, 'bubbly', efficient and omnipresent, be it TV/radio/press advertisements, billboards, art installation etc.

Edit: Here is the original TV spot, I think it summarizes the Twingo nicely.

Many customs and jokes revolve around this car (at least in France); often, everyone has their own.

I was walking with my sister this afternoon when she suddenly slapped me on the back of the head while shouting "GrEEeeen TwingoOOOo!!! Saw it before you!"

Twingos are everywhere. One of the guys at work had a 1st gen and now has a 2nd gen. Our company is very green what comes to cars... except me. The boss has a Skoda EV, that guy has a Twingo, two others have no cars at all.

And then there's me with two old RWD Volvos, one with a turbo redblock and one with a three litre straight six. :P

My 1992 Passat saloon had a sliding and reclining rear seat, but obviously not the full recline like the Twingo.

Realistically, the manufacturers don't care or don't feel the need to support it, there is very little value to this at the moment,

But hopefully down the line, when more and more the digital world will become an integral part of society And the codes developed by PD and eventually Ai supporting it, will legitimize how the digital model is a 1:1 representation of the real cars, then you will see they (the car manufacturers, if they are still surviving the EV transition) will support Kaz to try to outdo each other, and compete for real....
That's probably what Kaz is trying to do, a 10-15 years roadmap, and compete with IRacing and other car dynamics software....

Sure some of you will call me crazy, but ... Logically, I see this being a possibility in Kaz's effort.

In the early 90s, this pretty much the car that kick-started all the fun customizable small city cars like the MINI, the Beettle, prior to it, these cars were just boring small city car. The twingo showed the industry that people and society was ready for a fun joyful looking car...

It's consequential in Europe. The US of course could care less about it, but the twingo is a big deal.

I'm never touching Sport Mode again...
Same here, brother. Welcome to the Platinum club. For me, it took me four years and six days since launch to get Platinum.

Polyphony even indirectly foreshadowed the Mustang GT3.

The Twingo meme has been going since 2016, from what I've understood.

In my case that car remind me how much sex I did with the girlfriend of that time that she was owning…
…a perfect car for that… you can find a lot of pictures on the web about how to organize the seats to get almost a bed inside the car…

For me it is quite difficult to race effectively with a Twingo, because while I am “driving” my mind don’t stay really focused…
