Just to give some perspective on grinding in GT7, I've also been playing a lot of GT5 lately, and the grind in that game is ridiculous, totally a night and day difference to GT7. There's really only one efficient way to grind, and that's running the American Championship Indy Speedway race, which pays just shy of 100k for 3.5-4 minutes of racing (5 laps, full throttle, at the Indy oval). Talk about tedious and boring.

My only other options require much larger time investments for much less pay (i.e. doing the full Dream Cars Championship or Endurance races). I mean, hell, the 24hr race at Sarthe pays just shy of 800k. The 24hr at Nurbirgring at least gives you a seven figure prize (over 1.8mil), but it also requires you to race against prototypes, so it's not a casual undertaking.

Honestly, the grind in GT5 makes me appreciate the grind and gameplay loop of GT7 so much more.
GT5 is also by far the worst grind-as-game-design in the series because you have to grind near-endlessly just to complete the game, because of the absurd races-locked-behind-levelling mechanic tied with the exponential XP tiers.

I agree with people saying the time it takes for getting all the cars in GT7 is overtuned, and does take too long. But it's getting all the cars - a completionist thing you're only ever going to try to do if you really like the game and are putting hundreds of hours into it anyway. It's not even a trophy. So it feels like a minor complaint in the grand scheme of it; in terms of GT game design ills the opponent AI, chase the rabbit race style, and the campaign linearity are much higher priority things to solve.

Lately I highlighted GT7 on my PS5's main menu and the banner with the Hypercars + Porsche 992 Turbo S safety car from last month's update is gone and reverted back to the main banner with the Porsche VGT and Mazda RX-Vision GT3 Concept.

It may or may not be a sign that something is coming, but how long does it take for the banner highlighting the game's update stay before it's gone?

When I played last night the DLC photo was still there.

I still don't get the CE argument here when it comes to grinding. Sure it does help in early game to the point it can totally break game's "economy" (I should point out that I am far from being able to gold everything), but when comes the time to extract the best of single player experience, the reality hits hard and stacks with FOMO.

How many Gold CE would be needed so I can afford those cars within a reasonable timeframe ? And here are just two car lineups, I have many others like them. Of course, no one is forced to go that far. But for those who want to enjoy more immersive solo races in GT7, there aren't many other ways than grinding. Please don't talk to me about the Power Pack...

These days, GT7 gives you plenty of ways to earn credits: Daily Races, Weekly Challenges, Circuit Experiences (which people seem to overlook for some reason), Online Time Trials, etc.
Daily Races pay you like 4 cents even if you win. Outside of them running the 1000% bonus on certain races, no one is using Daily Races to "farm" money.

I also have a complaint about the Online Time Trails because you earn the credits like two weeks after the event starts. It technically does count as a nice little bonus but if you needed the credits now, you're SOL.

Apparently "Beyond The Apex" was updated? Though I don't know if they mean it was updated at the start of GT7 and this is one of there "Hey this feature exists" posts, or if it was updated more recently.

In the early days of the Gran Turismo series, the game disc was always sold as a set with an accompanying booklet.
It was a combination of “experiencing Gran Turismo” and “reading about Gran Turismo.”
I believe there are many players who, through Gran Turismo, developed an interest in what cars are, the physics of cars, and what driving is all about—and many of them have gone on to work in the automotive industry as a result.
In recent years, the inclusion of physical booklets was discontinued because it was deemed uneconomical, but we still want to convey the essence of what a car is.
Motivated by this, we’ve reorganized the content of past bundled booklets and published it online. While we hope to create a new, revised edition that incorporates the latest insights and industry trends, this is, for now, a compilation of everything we’ve covered so far.
“The Gran Turismo Magazine Beyond the Apex”
“Gran Turismo to Read.”

"Revised edition that incorporates the latest insights and industry trends" aka more detailed information on how electric cars work and perhaps notes on autonomous driving (although the latter is somewhat contradictory to the objective of GT as a game series).
In a typical GT Planet forum leap of conclusions: "They're preparing a new APEX book for GT8."

They need to make that permanent, but as the clean race bonus.

That's another open goal that this game missed.

I'm not sure if this is the absolute correct place to ask, and apologies if it is not, but here goes.
I expect this is highly unusual and strange to many, but I have only ever played the standard disc version of GT7.
I would dearly love to have updated as the game grew, but I have no way of doing that as my home is not Hard-wired for the net.
I've never been one for playing online anyway, but I've always wanted to enjoy more than Version 1.00 of the game.
So, my question is this.
Is there anyone in Melbourne, Australia that would be prepared to update my PS4 for a price?
I am more than happy to pay for the privilege of getting access to the game as it is intended, the cost of the data, and the time spent by the person involved.
I have a car and the time to make such a crazy idea possible.
I just need a willing individual to plug my PS4 into a reliable port and dedicate the time required to complete the job.
If that is you, please let me know.

If this sounds completely loopy and is doomed to failure for reasons I haven't thought of, then I may as well sell or give away the PS4 and games to someone that will actually use them.

You have been playing v1.00 solely on offline Arcade Mode for 4 years!?

Sadly, due to the boneheaded nature of GT7's design, even an updated version of the game won't get you a whole lot of content if you can't get online. Honestly I wouldn't have bought the game if I'd known beforehand that it was always-online.

No, I bought the game and PS4 about 3 years ago and time trialed it to absolute boredom for less than a year.
I mixed that in with other off-line play of Red Dead Redemption 2, another I'd love to update, and a few rally games like DIRT and WRC.
I probably haven't even switched it on in 18 months to 2 years! It's been hiding under a cloth out of sight, and out of mind. I just had to move it when doing a bit of reorganisation, and it woke some thoughts.

I'd be happy enough to never play online and just tick off the achievements and time trial.
I did have a PS3 and a fully updated GT6 that provided so many hours of entertainment, but I changed jobs to one that had me up at 3:15am and time to PS3 anything suffered.

Might be less expensive to get an internet package and gradually go through the menu books to unlock circuits. Even if you only have 30 minutes a day you can unlock several circuits in that time.
Offline you’ll only have access to the same cars available offline now, but you will be able to drive on all the circuits once you unlock them.

Hard wired NBN is not an option where i live.
The main (front) house has only received notification about 6 months ago, that they'll be laying the NBN up the street soon.
They're currently using Tangerine as their provider via satellite.
My only access to the 21st century is thanks to my mobile.
I'm one of the only people I know that has never lived at an address with cable internet.
My previous address for 14 years was virtually in the geographic centre of Melbourne, but the granny flat wasn't wired up. The quote to connect was "somewhere in the thousands" to come dig, lay, and connect separately to the main house.
If physical distance is the measure, using that formula at this address...
It's just not worth even thinking about it. That's before even asking the landlord for permission to rip up their property, and who knows how much inconvenience to them.

I don’t think I have played gt7 for almost 4 months now. Switch to some other titles, gt7 did get pretty sterile for me In the last year. I want something new or something really gamechanging for gt, to refresh the experience.

I got my first 6 copies of Gran Turismo as soon as physically possible.
After being left disappointed with a lot of GT6 in comparison to GT5, and having nothing to do with Sport, I was in no hurry to join the GT7 party.
Needed a PS4 in the first place, and only bought one though an aching desire to play RDR2.
Noticed GT7 on sale and bit the bullet.
Had no idea version 1.00 was so utterly bare in content. If I did, I wouldn't have bothered at all.

If you have (or can get your hands on) a wireless router you can access the internet with wifi. It should work for your PSN account

I've thought of another angle.

What if I bought someone's PS4 with GT7 already loaded and up to date?
That is all saved to the PS4 Hard Drive, is it not?

I already have the game.

Does the PS4 need to be online to save any game progress?

Back in the days of Forza Motorsport 4 I didn't have home internet for a while either so I feel your pain Pete05. I was lucky enough to have a mate who was happy for me to bring over my 360 and download DLC and updates etc using his home internet connection. Hope you can find someone to help you out with this.

As far as I am aware even if you had a PS4 and GT7 with all the updates, you would not be able to save game progress (other than arcade mode), like I assume you've been doing this whole time

To play 95% of the game (other than Arcade and Music Rally) your console needs to be online.

It’s not just for saving progress, it’s for unlocking the game. This is why your copy looks barebones.

Thank you to everyone for your honest feedback, thoughts and consideration.
I really appreciate you taking the time to chip in.
Unfortunately, I'm just going to have to file this in the too hard basket and wave the white flag.

why not use wifi or mobile hotspot? You still need to be online to access all GT7 even if you have the updated version. Or maybe you can play GT Sport instead but it still need to be updated too

ask your neighbor or friend who have wifi to update the game then play online with your mobile hotspot

Thought I'd put together a quick guide as to when the last time we got a car from each major manufacturer.

Split between road car and racing car is purely by the in-game tag (with tuned counting as road for this exercise). If you want to argue that, say, the P1 GTR is a road car, be my guest, but the game doesn't.

The surprising takeaway for me is how far down this list you have to go to start hitting Japanese manufacturers.

As far as I am aware, a hard line connection is required.
Hot spot won't do the job. I know that from trying to update my PS3 & GT6.

Hot spot & tethering is how I use to get my PC connected to the Web.
It was horribly slow and would drop out whenever it wanted without warning.

It's by far preferred, but not required.

Of course, if you have data limits on your phone, that'd be an issue, but otherwise all you need is relative network stability both for updates (if it drops out it will resume though) and for the game to check in when saving. If you're in a 5G area, you should be absolutely fine.

Don't race with a tethered console though.

I remember during the days of the GT Sport closed beta where I got an invite just as soon as I moved to a new apartment and had to race with my PS4 being tethered to my phone's mobile data, and man, was it terrible.

I'm definitely curious as how GR will be added. I don't doubt at all that the GR GT and GR GT3 will be added, but I also would imagine that GR could easily become a new option for the Manufacturers Cup. As for what sort of Gr.4 machine they'd use, I could certainly see a Gr.4 version of the GR GT, but I wouldn't rule out a Gr.4 version of that new car they've been testing at Fuji this past week, especially if it ends up having AWD in road-going form. Whether it's a new MR2, Celica, or something else remains to be seen.

EDIT: I still maintain the belief that Maserati should become an option for the Manufacturers Cup, too, given its broad racing history. Seems clear enough which cars would permit this, too - the MC20 GT2 could fit into Gr.3, and would be paired with a Gr.4 version of the newly-facelifted GranTurismo.

EDIT2: Even Dodge and Mitsubishi could potentially get new Gr.3 racers, with the former having a Gr.3 version of the upcoming Copperhead, and the latter getting the Stock Car Brasil version of the Eclipse Cross.

That seems like the case, apparently, given how Mercedes-AMG is split from Mercedes-Benz.

Or if the GR GT were to be called "Toyota GR GT" in-game, it would follow the same precedent as how the Autozam AZ-1 is branded as a Mazda in previous titles instead of its own standalone brand (in Forza, Autozam is its own standalone brand, much like GR).

Fixed that for you.
