The classes should be PP based if the developers are unwilling to make the groups accurate to reality. Think about the WTC events in career mode. Ideally, there should be free for all PP classes from 600 to 900PP alongside categories like GT4, GT3, Group C, Hypercar, TCR, GT500, LMP1-H, etc.

If the 2004 Audi A4 DTM were in Gr. 3, this also sets a precedent for 2003-2004 JGTC GT500's as Gr. 3 cars.

I think anything before 2008 in JGTC/Super GT would be in Gr. 3.
When it comes to the 2005 Supra and 2006 Z, I am still convinced these two would be Gr.2 because they raced against the SC430 and NSX in those years (there were two teams that stuck to the Supra in 2006, too) and the 2006/2008 SC430 and NSX were practically identical.

Though I feel they might redo the car classing systems in later games. (Since the convo was originally about 2000s DTM cars, I pointed out some edge cases surrounding Group A and N24's tuned road cars here.)

I think any GT4 car that had "Touring Car" in the name would be in Gr.4 - PD seem to treat Gr.4 as basically touring cars and touring car-adjacent. Yes, they'd need to detune things like the A4 we're discussing, but they've shown with the 155 that isn't anathema to them.

"Touring Car" = Gr.4, "LM Race Car" = Gr.3 is pretty much how I think it'd mostly translate.

On that note, do you have your own speculation on why PD didn't redo the car classing system with GT7?

PD continue to paint themselves into a corner. Whoever is assigned to classing cars, can’t seem to organise cars once something new is added to the game. It’s fine if only one car is in its lone group.
The Renault Trophy can just be a One Make car as it is in real life. The Gr.4 cars can be two-wheel drive by disengaging the 4WD for those models.

PD know the cars they add that fit the multi-class racing series criteria. Yet, they don’t implement them as such. I think only one race in GT Sport at Autopolis(correct me if I’m wrong) used multi-class and the Mission 6-8 with 30 cars was a Gr.3/Gr.4 multi-class race.

Even with 16 cars for Sport Mode and 20 car grids for World Circuit and Arcade, split grids should always be available across the game. PD do themed races at time and maybe with player feedback they’ll make it a standard feature, with Custom Race set ups being the addition.

Moza just announced during their new product launch livestream that they will become a GTWS partner starting August 15, and a PlayStation-compatible wheel base is also under active development.

Yup, it's on GT's website.

They are also already on the promotional images. Interestingly, Fanatec are also still on there, we'll see how long they can juggle two peripheral manufacturers as sponsors...

Moza don't even have a PS compatible wheel yet so it'd be easy to juggle them until they actually have hardware to use - at which point I imagine Fanatec will be dropped.

I find it very interesting that for the two "Stealth Model" cars being offered for the viewer's campaign, they're going with the Toyota FT-1 VGT Gr.3 and not the much more popular Toyota GR Supra Racing Concept. Does anyone really use the former anymore since the latter was added? It's also very neat that the other car, a Mazda 787B, is continuing the trend of the GT4 "black cars" since the Toyota GT-One (TS020) was first. I'd imagine that as such, the next "Stealth Models" could likely involve the Nissan R92CP, as well as a future re-introduction of the Nissan R390 GT1 '98 as a Gr.2 racer.
Sarcastic car prediction for the next update (thought it wouldn't fit in the actual prediction thread since it's a joke):

Nissan GT-R Black Mask '07
Nissan GT-R Almost Revealed '07
Nissan GT-R Shy '07
Nissan GT-R Courage '07
Nissan GT-R '07

can you tell I like the '07 GT-R
I know it's a joke but I'd genuinely love to see that initial production version of the R35, as I think it looks the best compared to the other, later two that we have. If I had to pick between it and the GT-R50 by Italdesign, I'd still go with the 2007 version. I can't really even think of any other version of the R35 that could be a truly worthy addition, especially since we have two GT3 versions as well as two GT500 versions.

I would imagine the FT-1 may have had a bit of a spike in interest for Australian Supercars fans at least, with Toyota now entered with a car that took direct inspiration from the FT-1 rather than the production GR Supra.

I feel like this has been criminally underreported, but FREE FT-1 Gr.3 and 787B Stealth Models baybeeeee!

Always liked the look of the FT-1 VGT, just a shame it's so tricky to drive. And this will be my, what, 6th 787B? 😂 They sure do love giving those out!

I note that two of the Stealth cars have now been two of the four GT4 black cars.

Still early to say it's not coincidence, but if they give out the R92CP for Singapore then I think people will start getting excited for what the final one would be pointing at...

This statement was probably made because some outlets (I saw Traxion at least) jumped to the conclusion that the Moza deal cancelled out the Fanatec deal, despite the official statement on the GT website calling Moza "one of the" rather than "the [only/singular]" official peripheral partners.
As well as both Fanatec & Moza logos appearing together on the Singapore event poster.

Edit:
Looks like Traxion has made a follow-up article.

Moza literally don't have PS equipment yet I don't know what anyone else expected?
99% chance Fanatec are officially dropped either at a set point when an existing contract is up or when Moza gear is officially available - and Moza is lined up to replace them.

Obviously, there's nothing to replace it with yet, so both are represented for practicality and for a little marketing bonus for Moza.

I would be very surprised to be wrong.

Had no idea that Polyphony has released a paper showing how it did its tone mapping and HDR implementation for GT7. Other studios is catching it now, with BeamNG being one of the first ones.

Since version 0.39, BeamNG uses a Gran Turismo 7 tone mapping, replacing the previous ACES tone mapper. This updated system is designed to better preserve physically based lighting values while providing more consistent and higher quality results across both SDR and HDR displays.

Talk about being the industry standard.

Very cool that they made this publicly available, also nice how the BeamNG devs openly talk about adapting it. That's a win-win.

Comrade Polyphony sharing for the good of the people!

Jokes aside, nice that they did this. PD have some extremely talented people on their hands (and have done since day 1). The car models are so good, lighting as well.

I'm interested to see what GT will do for their 30th anniversary at the end of 2027. I thought they might do an online event that will allow you to win the cars on the cover art (Porsche and Mazda VGTs) in special liveries, or maybe a big update, but the latter would be somewhat redundant with GT8 potentially being released not long after. I know this seems rather early to talk about, but I'm still wondering because I missed out on that special 25th anniversary livery for the X2019 Competition and the 15th anni DLC all the way back in GT6...

This is the game that decided to commemorate the movie spin-off with a new default livery for the GT-R GT3 and a time trial, don't get your hopes up.

I'd say we'd still get one more year of updates, then by 2028, it will slow down a bit.

If we're honest, expecting anything other then that (For a movie most of us would've never ever expected or asked for) was setting youself up for disappointment. PD barely remembers the very series they are connected to so that was always gonna ask ALOT.

I've only just noticed that the Honda dealership in Brand Central doesn't have a museum section.
Really odd, especially since Honda built not 1 but 2 of Japan's premier race tracks with Suzuka & Motegi.
It's the only one of the non-tuner Japanese brands not to have one.
Even Afeela has one, but not Honda.

I also wonder if/when the Honda logo will be updated to their new one.

Will we be waiting as long for that as we are for the updated Suzuka track art...

The Honda dealership lacking a museum saddens me too. It’s the same story with Citroën. Then there are those brands that do not have newer vehicles to sell, like TVR or Pontiac, and therefore can't have a museum; it’s a real shame.
