I'm definitely curious as how GR will be added.
If it is, as Toyota. Autozam, Efini, and Eunos are all Mazda, after all.

The exception to the rule is Mercedes. For some reason it gets split up so that the esports-eligible part is in AMG along with a bunch of cars that were never Mercedes-AMGs. But all the paints for AMG are under Mercedes-Benz, because it's not a real brand.

Fixed that for you.
Oh yeah, the MC12 GT1 would also be a solid Gr.3 option, but I think the MC20 GT2 would be more contemporary. Ideally, I'd love to see both.

Would this affect if the AMG Galant could be added as an AMG, as opposed to under Mitsubishi? (It kinda reminds me of how Renault and Renault Sport were split in GT Sport, then merged back together in GT7, much like how SRT was its own brand in GT6 before being merged with Dodge in GT Sport.)

It's by far preferred, but not required.

Of course, if you have data limits on your phone, that'd be an issue, but otherwise all you need is relative network stability both for updates (if it drops out it will resume though) and for the game to check in when saving. If you're in a 5G area, you should be absolutely fine.

Don't race with a tethered console though.
Thank you. Much appreciated.

Maybe this is the best way to revive the offline career mode in GT7 right now. PD needs to put more passion into it.

I recall "Renault" & "Renault Sport" were seperate brands back on GT Sport, but they ended up being combined together again in GT7.
So it's possible that "Mercedes-Benz" & "AMG" get merged into 1 brand for GT8.

Thing is, think about the time when GT Sport was released: This was when Renault Sport was the active sporty brand for the Renault Group (As reflected by their F1 team at the time) so when it came to GT Sport, "Renault Sport" was for models made after 2011 at the time while "Renault" was for much older models. In that time between 2017 and 2022, "Renault Sport" got phased out and replaced by Alpine as the active Sporty Brand so those models got placed under "Renault".

As far as I can tell with the Mercedes-AMG situation, that appears to be much more inconsistent but also seeming set to continue as long as Mercedes, who know wholly own AMG, continue to show up.

Difference between AMG/Mercedes and some of the others mentioned in the posts above is: AMG is not just a brand, it is a company on its own, a subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz.

We need the 2000 mustang GT in gt7 why have transit vans and all these crap cars nobody wants but not have a 2000 mustang gt makes 0 sense it's even in GTA but a racing the people who do updates are to stupid to realize it's a sports car and one of Fords most reliable sports cars out it in the damn game already

You'll be wanting the Cars/Suggestions forum - in which there are... many Mustangs. I don't think there's a 2000 GT in there, but there's a '98 for sure:

There isn't a Transit van in GT7.

I think there should be to honour Sabine Schmitz. We can have a trophy in GT7 for the fastest lap in the Transit around the Ring.
Can I just say, that in a modern Transit, Mercedes-Benz, VW or similar, she would have done a sub ten minute lap without breaking a sweat.

A magnificent lady i have never heard a bad word uttered about, and taken too soon.

I’m thinking of upgrading from PS4 to PS5, it’s a financially irresponsible decision but I can’t stop thinking about it. Damned if I do and damned if I don’t.

If I put my PS4 disc into a PS5 I won’t have to start again will I? I just have to pay for the upgrade to PS5 in the game. Similarly if I buy the PS5 disc then will I have to start over again?

You should be able to play it just fine if you use the PS4 disc. Likewise, your saved data should carry over to the PS5 version.

No to all of those things.

You can pay for the PS5 upgrade, but you don't have to. It's perfectly fine playing the PS4 version of the game on PS5, although you do miss out on the enhancements and unique features like Sophy.

As you're disc-based, make sure you get a console with a disc drive though (or the external add-on, if you go Digital Edition or PS5 Pro)! They're a dying breed...

Thanks guys

If I get a PS5 I’ll definitely be getting the upgrade to get the full experience. And a disc drive version in order to play PS4 games. My PS4 is struggling on and it does affect my enjoyment of the game. It’s like a lottery on firing up the console and GT7 if there’ll be errors or corrupted data etc. My other console is a Series S and I am missing the disc experience.

It would still be under Mitsubishi (just, maybe, with the added step of asking AMG for their permission).

I had no idea just starting a PS4 could be such a lottery.

I'll admit that I am a certified dinosaur when it comes to most things tech.
I still have hundreds of CDs and DVDs and bought more on Tuesday.
I was just thinking back 30 odd years, when you could take your game and memory card anywhere that had a PlayStation and continue where you last saved. Simple times.

Just in case anyone is trying to login right now, PSN is down:

Edit: and naturally everyone's going "still thinking of stopping disc production?"
Offline Mode needs to be vastly better, there's really no excuse and it's a major shortcoming of the game that it is so poor.

I know it's only a temporary outage, but when time is limited and one has other priorities, it is deeply frustrating not being able to play the game that we've literally spent years building up, only to have the choice of 13 mostly very mediocre cars, or the travesty that is Music Rally.

Sarcastic car prediction for the next update (thought it wouldn't fit in the actual prediction thread since it's a joke):

Nissan GT-R Black Mask '07
Nissan GT-R Almost Revealed '07
Nissan GT-R Shy '07
Nissan GT-R Courage '07
Nissan GT-R '07

can you tell I like the '07 GT-R

I have a theroetical question: If GT7/GT8 were to bring back say: the 2004 Audi A4 touring car, what class would you think it would be placed in?

The 90's DTM cars (see Alfa 155) seem to be placed in Gr.4, while the modern DTM cars are places in Gr.2. This would make the logical assumption that the A4 would be in Gr.3

BUT DTM cars in GT always seem to be paired with their respective GT500 cars(barring the Alfa), which seem to switch over from Gr.3 to Gr.2 sometime in between 2000(The latest Gr.3 GT500) and 2008(the earliest Gr.2 GT300.) This switch I presume happens around 2003-2004 when a major rules shakeup happened.

So would the A4 follow suit with the JGTC cars, or would that distinction wait until the classes own major technical update around 2013?

Also on the Alfa being Gr.4 - is it REALLY a Gr.4 car? Or was it simply put there instead of Gr.3 because it is 4WD, thus outlawing it from Gr.3, where all cars are RWD only.

I honestly have the same questions towards older GT300 cars or something like the Tickford Falcon, but I think that further goes to show how outdated the Group system is for current Gran Turismo.

Gr.4, although the GT SPORT video about car classes mention Gr.4 as being like FIA GT4, Gr.4 is really as if Super Taikyu were only one class rather than the eight or nine classes for the real Super Endurance series. From the mentioned ITR 4WD Alfa 155 to the Suzuki Swift Sport Katana based Gr.4.

I guess it would depend on whether the A4 Touring Car had comparable levels of downforce & grip to the 2008 GT500's. If not, then it might end up as a higher-downforce Gr.3 car like the Subaru BRZ. It's definitely in a weird position.
Also since in GT6 the A4 only had 453BHP, I'd assume Gr.3 would be more likely as it would need a significant power increase from stock for Gr.2, which rarely happens with BoP.

A lot of the others are probably easier to guess where they'd fit in, as you mentioned with them being grouped together with the JGTC cars in older games a lot of the time.
The Astra, CLK & TT would all likely go in Gr.3, while the Calibra would be in Gr.4 with the 155 (both heavily restricted).

The Falcon is in a weird position itself, as though it has 599BHP, it also weighs a really heavy 1,350kg. Combining that weight to the fact that the car is old and relatively simple on downforce, that one might end up in Gr.4 with a heavily restricted engine, rather than Gr.3.

Then the GT300's from when they were still limited to 300BHP would all go into Gr.4.

If my guesses are correct, it would also have the cool side-effect of Opel being eligible for the Manufacturer Series, since one of their cars would be Gr.3 (Astra) and the other Gr.4 (Calibra).

If the question is only based on the car performance within the Gran Turismo world of parameters, then the next question has to be whether the cars are being compared in default, or fully tuned form.
Not having played GT7, I can only draw on what I know of the individual car performance in the real world, and from what I experienced when using them in GT6.
The Tickford Falcon Supercar has comparible lap times to the early DTM cars - Mercedes 190, Alfa 155, Opel Calibra.
They just go a different way about achieving that time.
Time trial without tyre wear, nowhere near as noticeable as a race with some distance to it.
The makers have always given the Falcon a default setup that chews out the front before the rears, which is the complete opposite to the real world.
Both the 4wds will need careful tuning, and the 190 is a great car if you get it in the sweet spot.
The later DTM cars - Audi's A4 & TT, Mercedes CLK & Opel Astra - better in every measure versus those above.
Should feel better first lap out on the track.
GT500 & GT300 before they let in the Europeans - Highest levels of downforce in a road car based tin top.
I found it possible to tune a 300 up to 500 levels of performance without going all the way down the rabbit hole.
Pack the transmission ratios well, and adjust the final drive ratio to suit the circuit, and balance the car mainly with aero. These are tin top glory and the ones I miss the most.
As for what they've thrown in to the ring in GT7, again, I can't help.

If the 2004 Audi A4 DTM were in Gr. 3, this also sets a precedent for 2003-2004 JGTC GT500's as Gr. 3 cars.

I think anything before 2008 in JGTC/Super GT would be in Gr. 3.

Also, Opel would still be ineligible for the Manufacturers' Cup, as the requirements are that the cars should be modern (by definition: sold in Brand Central).

Both the Calibra and Astra would be sold in Legend Cars (the latter is because it's from 2000 and doesn't meet the minimum cutoff year).
