Should be. The real Toyotas, here in Australia, are going for about $40,000-$50,000AUD/$28,000-$32,000USD for the Chaser and newer(2000) Mark II around $12,000-$35,000AUD/$8,000-$25,000USD.

The Caterham is about £40,000/$54,000 USD.

Ioniq 6 N is about $120,000 AUD/$85,000 USD.
 
World Circuits races are an interesting one this time around. The Chaser and Mark II are easy, they probably share one Japanese FR Challenge 450 event.

But the Ioniq 6 N and Caterham are both cars that really belong in a historic GT race event that doesn't currently exist (Electric Circuits and European Lightweights respectively) and that is probably too quick for any existing road car race except the WTC600.

Feels like one of those months where one car gets the WTC600 event and the other gets ignored in favour of a random WTC800 or Gr.1 race being added.

The Ioniq 5 N had the WTC600 at Interlagos when it was added, so it's quite possible the Ioniq 6 N will have a WTC600 event as well.

Alternatively, it's possible the Ioniq and the Caterham are both present in a single WTC600 event, despite their differences. Similar to what they did in 1.63, where the Land Cruiser is always present in the Sunday Cup race in Sardegna, alongside the RAV4.

These free updates are great and all, but I'd like to see what PD can do on PS5 when they're not tied to making the game run on a 13 year old laptop hardware... we've been playing GT7 for more than 4 years and we haven't heard a single word about GT8.

For reference, GT4 had already been out for 4 years when everyone was going crazy why GT5 is taking forever and we only got GT5 Prologue. But at least we got something back then...

I think about this a lot, and I always come to the realization that it isn't fair to compare those things. Comparing what the world was 20 years ago to what it is now, when that is a really long time. Gaming was different, production and scope were different, expectations were different - the world and people were different.
Of course we would expect GT5 to be out already because we get all sorts of racing games on an yearly basis, 4 years between a racing game in the mid 2000s was insane, but nowadays? It is standard for games to last half a decade and be backed by live service, these concepts or expectations were things that just weren't in nobody's mind back then, they weren't even real.
GT7 going on 4 is actually not horrible considering FH5 went on 5, and the new game that we got is just more of the same but on a different coat of paint, it took 5 years for this and that's just how things are now.
I'm not even saying that I prefer the reality we have, I'm just saying that things changed, you can't uphold today's standards to yesterday's practices.

I can understand the hope and the expectations but this time calculation is also kind of outdated. As you know huge parts of the gaming industry is in trouble these days. Deleopment time and costs did increase heavily over the last years.
Furthermore the trouble with hardware prices. Honestly I don’t see a GT8 that’s exclusive for the ps5 in some way. This will be again some kind of cross gen title for Ps5 and the Ps6. I think the game still holds up really nice visually, especially on the ps5 pro with the in-game RT. The game is pretty fluid with 60 fps or even higher.
Racing tracks will always look a bit dull, even on newer hardware.

I think what the game mostly is missing are more city tracks and a better singleplayer experience. We would need to championship races, new challenges. It’s already there but Polyphony could do so much more with it.

I think you wanted to write you don't see a gt8 exclusive for ps6 (which I agreed). Or you think ps5 will be constrained by ps6 version which doesn't make sense ;d

Glad to see Caterham returning! The two Toyotas are cool, too, even if they’re not necessarily something more popular like the first-gen MR2, the A70 Celica XX, or the MR-S. Definitely looking forward to seeing the options for those two in GT Auto!

As for the Ioniq 6 N, I do like the facelifted design a lot, and I do wonder if we’ll get a set of parts that make it look ready for a time attack like the options for the Ioniq 5 N. Of course, I’d certainly be interested in some Genesis models like the GMR-001, the GV60 Magma, Magma GT, and the Magma GT3, but that said, I’m totally down to see the Hyundai N lineup expanded. I feel like the Veloster N would be cool but I get the idea that it’s somewhat obsolete compared to the Elantra N and its TCR variant.

Not only that, some people are far behind on what cars were added to the game.

However, based on these comments, the BMW M3 GTR seems to be the most requested car to be added.

I'm not sure if the Chaser or Mark II was ever featured in a Gran Turismo game before, but they're very popular retro Japanese sedans with high customization and tuning potential, and are also synonymous with drifting.

It's also possible Kaz added them in response to Forza Horizon 6, which had the Chaser, although the Mark II was in FM2023.

Hmm, no maintenance notice... yet.

Did Kaz mean next week=this week or since covered cars were posted Sunday he means Next week= next week from next Sunday or did he mean next week=next week for the western hemisphere that were still in last week when he posted? :lol:
 
I am looking forward to throwing the Caterham about for a little while but the novelty won't really last. The other cars do nothing for me but I am aware of the series significance of the Toyotas and am happy for the fans of those icons.

A couple of months back was my dream car pack with the 4 LMH cars and I am still loving them.

That's one thing I do like about these updates there's usually something ALMOST everyone. Not going to please everyone because that is impossible but to be able to satisfy a majority of your base is good. For I'm glad they are the Caterham but I don't have much use for it. For me the stars of the update are the Toyotas.

  • Not interested in the Ioniq 6 as it is too similar to the 5N that we already have
  • Toyotas are fine. I love 90s cars. They will have the 1JZ engine? Will be interesting to compare the sound to the 2JZ of the Supra (which many describe as „muted“)
  • The Caterham is the most interesting for me.

However, if they add Sophy support for more tracks/cars i will be even more happy ;)
 
Hmmm weeks do start at different times in different cultures (Monday is day 1 for me!) but I appreciate it can be Saturday/Sunday in others.

Edit: Google tells me that day 1 can be both Sunday and Monday in Japan

We've had this conversation before :lol:

It's rare that Yamauchi posts silhouettes/tarpies on a Sunday, but when he does the update still arrives in the immediate weekdays afterwards rather than those after the following weekend.

1.40 (the "Big Update" that turned out to be Spec II) was posted on Sunday October 29th 2023 as "Next Week", and arrived on Thursday November 2nd 2023.

1.44 was posted on Sunday March 24th 2024 as "Next Week", and arrived on Thursday March 28th 2024.

The most recent example was 1.63, posted as "Next Week" on Sunday September 21st 2025, but it arrived a day earlier on Wednesday September 24th 2025...


There's no immediate reason to think this will be any different, but we did think it was a bit funky to not tease it in the stream then release it.

Along with the stream, Yamauchi will be at Pebble Beach this weekend...
