If I could have the general counties around me mapped out I'd pay a lot of money to see them in a video game...

Let me add also the tricked out vehicles in my driveway.

I'd prefer a focused game.

It takes an age for the console to generate the track and up to 16 different cars... what would it be like with a big fat map and a phallanx of different cars? Test Drive is ncie enough but the actual drive is shocking after GT5 and the world terrain is a bit basic and repetative - due to th elimitations of the console...

Free roam... faff

special closed roads and races on them - Rally stage or Tounge (sic) style would be tip top.

I agree small quick to load true to life copies of great driving roads P2P style
Stelvio pass
Bolivian death road rally stage
North Carolina, Tail of the Dragon

A whole fake city and surrounding area landscape just to generic and boring

I'd love to drive my own area I live in in a F40 lol

Unless PD map the whole planet someone will complain they missed their area lol

You know how awesome mapping the whole planet would be? I mean it would never happen and would take forever but that would be sooo cool.

People, please remember that this mode would be optional, there would be no penalty to those who wouldn't want to use it, because it's a totally new feature.

Hardcore-spec
log in and your at home, you have to drive to the track you want to race on, Only got 2 hours to play and have to get half way around the planet lol

X2011 time lol

Can we please try to keep it real people, we are talking about a workable freeroam as if my idea isn't difficult to realise already.
As someone has already it will be really complicated to include in an environment which requires constant data loading depending on location, remember Gran Turismo games have the track and vehicles preloaded.

Well driving in the real world will be even more boring, + it'll take even more longer to make. So yeah, a fantasy city based on a real city is better IMO because it's more easier to make by being inspired by something. :grumpy:

Edit: Some of us love imaginations, and I think Kaz and PD could do something like this. It'll be a blast to take photos in beautiful sceneries like "Forest, Seaside, and Mountain areas" which could be the main target for photographers.

Do you really think considering how huge a project this would be that PD would make it an optional extra?

That's a very interesting question to ask actually. :|

I understand where you're coming from; if something takes a lot of effort to make, then surely it would be promoted by its creators because of the amount of work that's gone into it.

Maybe freeroam would be another B-spec kind of situation where there's the side of people who have no problem with it and there's the side who absolutely hate it.

I for one would welcome a freeroam if it is done in a way that makes sense and is actually enjoyable or useful. If the freeroam were to include a physical GTAuto, dealerships or if it were even just a fictional island with a multitude of environments then I could see myself spending a lot of time there with my Gran Turismo buddies :).

I really support this idea. Kazunori Yamauchi talked about it himself. Unfortunately it was a bit too much for the team to handle, which is why I think a cooperation would be perfect: A new game with vehicles and physics from Gran Turismo, and new teams to fullfill what would be missing from GT5's game engine, landscaping and other things.

Is there a market for this? Guaranteed. There is no need to say that Gran Turismo is a serious game and that lot of GT players would play a free roam game based on GT. With a bit more than just roaming, some or more players from Test Drive Unlimited, Need For Speed- and Midnight Club series would join aswell.

The problem: Yamauchi mentioned he had an idea about free roaming just after the release of Gran Turismo 5. Turn10 just announced Forza Horizon. I think Turn10 might have taken the idea from Kazunori and found out that they should do it before him, as GT is rivaling Forza... Either way, this is already been done in Test Drive Unlimited.

What would be cool to see in it? If they decided to make it, I hope the community will be able to come with suggestions. Personally I would love to roam in classics and make my personal museum in some garage..

I would suggest making an email petition and send the result to Sony.

Agreed. We could help Kaz and PD create this fantastic idea together. I hope someone will email Sony, they must hear us out. I've written some ideas of my own for freeroam back in the feedback section for GT6, and would happily bring it to this thread if it's alright with the OP. :)

One problem with this. Why should they listen? A petition wouldn't do much, as PD has nothing to lose.

Sony listens to the market. That's why I suggest gathering as many "e-mail signatures" as possible ...or Facebook for that matter!

You just get your friends to hop on the track in free run..
But this is GT5 not GTA5
A track is limited to it's boundaries, but a theoretical free roam can be as big as the boundaries allow it to be.

Also, to say that GT5 shouldn't have this feature and that feature because it ties it too closely with another game is absurd. If that feature can make the game better, then, if practical, it should be added to the game.

Or if you would've taken the time and done your research instead of blatantly accusing Turn 10 of stealing an unoriginal idea, you'd realize that they'd created a survey a couple months after Forza 3's release asking their community what features they would like to see in upcoming titles. One of the choices on the poll that happened to mention an open world/free roam experience.

Turn 10 isn't making it. Soooo....

Knowing Kaz
Yamauchi wanted to implement a “free roam” gameplay mode in GT5, where players could drive around, respecting speed limits and obeying traffic laws, and even exit the car to walk around and explore the environment on foot.
It's a clearly thought out idea and not a response that any of us expected when it was mentioned on Twitter.

There's no way that in the last 20 years he's spent learning for and working on GT, that he wouldn't have thought of free roam. That's just my two cents.

What would be a cool idea, is to have a central hub city, were it connects all the game modes in the game. And your car is in a garage in the centre, and you have to drive to the license test, dealership, race championship, tuner, and in this area you can connect with friends and socialize.

Kind of like an interactive GT home of old.

You're saying that as if they aren't involved with the project at all, which obviously isn't the case since Turn 10 were the ones that brought it into attention in the first place.

Anyway it would be nice idea, but I just don't want this to be the main focus since PD have other things to take care of first. GT5 had so much going for it, but the fact many of the features felt like they were just "tacked on" made me disappointed with how this game turned out.

There's a reason why Turn 10 made Playground games take the reigns on their upcoming game, since they actually have priorities. They're managing their time wisely instead of putting one game off to make another (sound familiar)?
