13 is also about the average age (physically and mentally) of GTA Online players. I shudder to think of the hellscape that the new online mode will be.

A cynical person might think part of the reason for the delay is to let gamers get used to the new $80 RRP for AAA games, so when Rockstar charge $100 for GTA 6 it won't seem quite so outrageous. They can afford to push back the release, 5 is still amongst the top 10 sellers every month.

How a 13 year old game is still in the top 10 after all this time still surprises me.

I hate that GTA Online resulted in the cancellation of story DLC for GTA5 as the DLC for GTA4 was great, it also no doubt contributed to the lack of a new release for the series for all this time.

I really hope the success of Online doesn't result in 6 being built around it and there is a still a good single player offline experience to enjoy but I have had my doubts about that for a long time now.

Grand Theft Auto VI Delayed, But May 26 2026 Launch Now Confirmed

In a bit of a good news/bad news situation, Rockstar Games has confirmed that its original release plan for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI, stated as some time in 2025, won’t happen — but has confirmed a release date of May 26, 2026...

It's constantly heavily discounted on the PS Store (i can't remember ever not seeing it for sale through the PS5 portal) and pushed to the top of the page, so i'm not really surprised at its ranking.

It's not just 13 years between GTAV & GTAVI been released, it's 9 years between been announced as been in development.

‪This game will blow up the internet once released I’m sure of it. It’s gonna be a wild time. Come May 26 2026.‬

Made me laugh when I noticed GTA was the first non-GT series-specific sub-forum we ever had... and that was 17 years ago today.

As that also post-dates GTA4 by three days, only ONE GAME has been released in that time: GTAV.

I keep remembering games i bought on PS4 that i could try out on the PS5 now i have a bit more storage space, as most of the stuff i buy is digital and you can just re-download it.

But then i realise i bought GTAV on the PS3!

I think once Sony announced Ghost of Yotei was announced for October it seemed that there was going to be a delay for GTA 6. I think Sony got word of that and went ahead and gave a date for GoY. I suspect a lot of other publishers may try to release before GTA 6 comes out. It should be an interesting next few months when it comes to game announcements. 🤔

No idea why people are excited for this. I tried GTA V for 1 hour and dropped it. Game was trash.
This may be shocking news - not everyone likes the things you do, and vice versa.

Looking at my trophy data it’s been 8 years since my last playthrough of 5. I do own the PS5 version so maybe I should actually try it at some point.

Gta 5 was awesome I only played through it once but thought it was highly entertaining

In my older age I try to stay away from violent video games so not in a hurry for gta6

Not surprised at all and I wouldnt be surprised if they delayed it again further down the line.
I would be. One of the surrounding stories regarding its development over the last year has been shareholders getting antsy right before they were initially told a holiday release. Rockstar's CEO Strauss Zelnick also went & did some media appearances in the past few months.

Edit*
Per IGN, Zelnick has released a statement to reassure the shareholders.
Zelnick himself commented, saying Take-Two backs Rockstar in its decision to delay GTA 6, and told shareholders the company expects to deliver a “multi-year” period of growth.

“We support fully Rockstar Games taking additional time to realize their creative vision for Grand Theft Auto VI, which promises to be a groundbreaking, blockbuster entertainment experience that exceeds audience expectations,” Zelnick said.

“While we take the movement of our titles seriously and appreciate the vast and deep global anticipation for Grand Theft Auto VI, we remain steadfast in our commitment to excellence. As we continue to release our phenomenal pipeline, we expect to deliver a multi-year period of growth in our business and enhanced value for our shareholders.”

Damn, if only Rockstar had decided to heed your opinion first. You could've saved them from making millions of dollars each year for a decade old game that other studios would kill for.

Between 4 and 5 Rockstar at least released a bunch of other titles as well. Since 5, they've only released RDR2. (Ignoring all the remasters and rereleases)

Fair play.

Sports Interactive started this trend when FM wasnt ready, I'm all for developers actually caring and it'll encourage me to buy games on day 1 vs waiting for a sale once it's had like a thousand patches. They'll make more money if others are like me.

I personally haven't bought a day 1 game since the last of us 2. That's about 5 years?

So we can expect Red Dead 3 in 2031 then? Excellent 😬

Because Rockstar can sell a big steaming pile of **** On A Shingle for dinner and people will gladly open their mouths and eat it, praise Rockstar that their pile tastes amazing, and then fork over 80 US dollars for the meal not once, not twice, but three times in a row.

I think I might be among the most patient of Gamers, because I don't mind a developer taking the time necessary to get a game to a high standard.

I get tired of the impatience some folks have. We are spoiled with video games these days. I can say that confidently as someone who is currently 31 years old. I recall playing video games on SEGA Genesis LOL.

I find myself struggling to choose from the mountains of options during my free time, so much so that I sometimes just don't end up playing anything. I find satisfaction in having the options alone, and that was amplified when I began playing on a gaming laptop utilizing Steam. My goodness!! It's overwhelming!!

P.S. I think I'm getting old.

I’m patient because what’s another year? Life goes on. I’m still jumping in GTA V once in a while.
Yeah GTA 5 online is where it's at. While the map is the same ol same ol for the last decade there's still so much stuff to do. And even better if you're with friends

I hope GTA6 has a good overhaul of the gameplay. The driving and shooting could be improved dramatically, I sure hope so. It looks impressive—even better than Night City!
