I didnt know this thread turned into the, "what have you done with FM3" thread. LMAO

It didn't, it turned into what TRC did in North American FM3 Tournaments and the answer to that is...DOMINATE :) I have much less confidence going into GT5, but I have no doubt a few of us will make a showing in Orlando, I only hope I have the skill to make it, that way I can meet some new faces and get that rush of live competition against the best of the best!

EDIT: Plus talking about this has been more civil and laid back than the on topic convo ;)

Good luck there :) Now walk the walk.. :D

Just joking.. and too bad PAL can't run these combos even just for fun. :ouch: A proper TT competition is always great fun.

Seems to me they were talking about how sometimes you have to push the envelope to win. That's kinda the point of racing. Do whatever it takes to win. Forza's racing, which if I'm not mistaken is what the GTAcademy is all about :)
Merry Xmas

After watching fixbywire's latest lap at Cape Ring, maybe it would be a good idea to bring out the John Deere when I have a proper go  I must say, PD really needs to improve on the affects putting a wheel/s off has on the tires grip, as well as implementing a proper penalty system for once (how f'in difficult could it be?) :indiff:

I myself will likely try and keep things fairly clean (at least for Round 1) as I don't see any real reason for the top guys to be using such tactics (to that extreme) to gain an advantage...IMO all their doing is setting a bad example for everyone else to follow, when they likely have the ability/skill to advance regardless, without making a mockery of the competition lol. But in the end you guys are entitled to do whatever you want and I can't blame someone for taking advantage of whatever loophole available (as the best drivers are usually the most ruthless ones) 👍

On another note - Hopefully Round 2 brings better combo's, as I've found these to be rather awful for such a competition. Cape is not a proper race track and the Z @ Tsukuba requires a unrealistic driving technique to achieve quick times. I have not tried the Rome combo as of yet so I cannot comment on that one...but racing on cobblestone doesn't sound too realistic to me

Well said TA, I feel about the same way.
I did have a go at Cape Ring while jumping on to the pit exit, or entrance, and I went a full half second faster than taking the proper line. Then adding on the extra 20mph fixebywire has while mowing the lawn is probably close to just as big of an advantage.

Also, it is obvious to me the grip reduction is set to low, not real, which is blatantly dumb on PD's part. All we can do is hope round two has proper settings at a track like Suzuka, where it was impossible, to my knowledge, to gain any advantage while going off the track in GT5P.

The part where he drives on the extra space? I don't think so. Like the announcer guy said, it's a risky move. If his rear end breaks loose or he understeers, he doesn't have a lot of room for correction.
So can the same be said for this Time Trial?

Damn, that's a pretty big chunk of time to be had if it truly is worth that much :ill: I haven't spent but about 10 minutes at Cape getting acquainted with things, so I can not speak with any certainty on that matter...but I will take your word for it 👍

TBH, I don't even know if I'll bother putting in much effort at Cape...despite the fact that it is probably the most important. I personally find it to be a rather goofy "race track" (no way in hell would they race cars on such a track...so why have it in such a competition?) to begin with. Then the fact that such unrealistic tactics can be used to gain a massive time advantage deters/de-motivates me even further from attempting to do my best in what I would consider a reasonably clean/realistic fashion of driving.

At this point, as long as I advance to the next round, that's all that really matters to me when the the Round 1 deadline approaches - no point in getting too sucked into things when the bigger picture says I just need to be in the top 128 to keep that dream alive.

I Definitely agree - Suzuka would have been a great track for this competition (although Prologue made me never want to see it again )...maybe we will get that in the later rounds.

The track selection for Round 1 is rather odd to me. They could have picked so many other real tracks (not make believe ones where your car gets 6 feet of air) that would seem more fitting for such a competition...but oh well, this is what we have to work with for now. I just hope they don't disclude a bunch of real tracks (there are quite a few of them) in the future rounds.

 When I race online and the host picks Suzuka I want to vomit.

Man, this thread is still going strong! 👍

I think I posted yesterday and now there are like 10 more pages. Didn't you guys celebrate Christmas?! :)

I just hope whoever wins the whole competition, becomes really successful so they can come back in this thread and say "See, I told you that my way of racing is the best!" Then the arguements will be settled once and for all.......yea right.

Nice to know the top dog and I think alike. 👍

Been following your ghost around Tsukuba. I can stay with you until the second hairpin, then you pull away. I can't seem to get any traction coming out of that turn. Depending on where I'm at in the next couple weeks, I may give it another go.

Don't forget the photo and video leaderboards.

And anime porn and stealing whatever casual garbage you can from Grid and PGR4. Speaking of which, been beating your times on PGR4...good fun.💡

Should be set up with the PS3 in the next few days. Dying to get back into running some meaningful laps. Just hoping I can find my speed quickly with the controller.

Racing isn't about winning, it's about making friends.:dopey:

That's right. And you'll need some good friends once you end up divorced and lose the house because of your racing habit...I'm lucky enough to hang on to both (wife and condo) for now, but so many other local drivers choose speed over romance (obviously).

The additional sad thing is the lack of consistency in the penalty system (I use the term loosely :) ). In the chicane after the loop on cape ring you can get called off just for straddling the edge of the pavement with 2 wheels clearly on the track, yet other places you can ride along, all for wheels in the grass forever with out penalty?
The thing I don't get is, PD obviously uses a different penalty area/zone for time trials vs. wheel to wheel events (prologue was similar in this way). Why not just make the time trial penalty zones proper?

maybe they wanted to see who would exploit the boundaries?

So can the same be said for this Time Trial?
All I read was "Is this cheating?" with the youtube link, so I merely answered that question.

Putting that aside, it's an edgier method of driving the Z. IIRC, most people believe that the 370Z performs best when pushed to its extreme limits. If anyone else can perform the "cheat" without being penalized, then I don't see why not. Real-world racing (or sports in general) is not 100% accurate with calls on their own rules and regulations. The same should be expected for PD.
