3 times I have improved my time now, and every single time ended up in 21st place, what's this about?! :P

Really struggling with the first section still though, only seen a 37.xxx split once, and that's with Active steering on. Just can't seem to get the power down right around the slow left hander leading on to the straight.

Someone else went faster at the same time. Yesterday I improved my time and lost 20 places.

I did think about doing a really slow lap with another PSN profile to see how many had taken part but didn't fancy doing all the lead up events to the main thing again.

Haha, I actually tried this! Harder than you might think, it kept invalidating my lap for being too slow!

I just did a 7:19.9! That's fast for the Nurburgring, right?! :sly:

It actually does that, wow.

Yes, it will either say it on the screen while you're driving and change the clock to red or after the race is over it says "Time's Up!" so I'm not listed internationally. The international list seems to end at 64,197. But apparently my own country is so lame that I still ranked! 8300 regional :ouch:

But, looking at the times on my regional screen, and how very, very few people have bothered with a super slow lap (estimate maybe a dozen world wide) there are probably fewer than 65,000 who have participated in the qualifier.

Based on the best splits, optimal's a high 16 so far, and it's still only been three days really.

I'm sure someone will break into the 15s by the end of this.

Thanks Spud. Yeah I would say Tidgney's estimate of a 17.5-17.7 being safe is quite accurate. :)

I'd imagine it depends on the car quite a lot. In the R35 they had me trail braking much longer than I would have imagined (I'm used to lightweight RWD) to keep the nose down and front tires loaded, then as soon as you get to the clipping point and spot the exit it's off brake, back to full throttle.

In game, can't comment :p

Either way, it's a lot about not over slowing the car. Brake hard in a straight line leading up to it, then use trail braking to walk the car into the corner at a good rate of speed while hitting your clipping point, then just spot the exit and get on the throttle early enough to carry speed out, but not run wide and fight the car. Braking is where lots of time can be lost/gained.

Great time mate :)! Good job your not on holiday this year :D! Will be interesting to see what happens with regards to cut offs. I'd think that, that might actually end up being a cut off point! Although your new time of 17.4 should make you safe :), so great work 👍

Here is my lap, if you see any place where I can improve, just shout! 👍

2:18.497

I see an obvious error but I certainly won't tell you... :sly::D

I don't think I will be able to do a mid 2'18. Especially considering I won't be able to do any running in the next two weeks.

There are some old names on the Swedish leaderboard and some that I've never heard of. There are one or two persons who are not there yet but will certainly be near the top if they decide to do the effort.

Watch out for chorda and johnkiller2 ;)

Cheers. Aha yeah that was a slight inconvenience last year. :ouch:

I know a lot has been made about drifting etc but i want to try it but am really struggling to get the front in. No matter at high or low speed when I turn in it takes an age to get in. In the top guys replays they seem to be able to flick it in. Is that a touch of handbrake or are they doing something else?

Weight transfer and trail braking are what I use just to get the weight right and slide right when needed. For example the sharp left as I approach I purposefully over trail brake to get what I want knowing I can straighten, accelerate and then turn slightly as a way to reduce the risk. Copse that naturally is weight transfer and cars even do that in real life from what I've seen stood at the side of the track watching (Bit less drift but you can see the weight transfer).

I know a few have commented about the sliding, but we are playing to the physics we are given, just like if we could in real life drift and it be faster you would then do that, you've still got to put the effort in to still make it which makes Ti-techs and all the top times really great times 👍

But nice effort everyone, really nice to see so many competing in the Academy :)!

Even though Ireland isn't involved this year :tears:
Still gonna throw down 10-15 laps a day.
Day 1: 2:20.9 (Realised)
Day 2: 2:19.7 (Realised)
Day 3: 2:19.1 (Realised)
Day 4: ??????
Day 5: 2:16.9 (Yet to be Realised)

Did my first attempt yesterday. It was nice to see my name 24th on the US list. Too bad that's the last time I'll be that high.

Goal is to improve on my 70th place from last year, which is doable if I can get my car drifting without losing front grip. I just can't do it reliably with the base brake settings.

Yes, you can. You don't have to do it reliably, just once. Wear that wheel out, then buy another and get after it some more! ;)

Was hoping to get a chance to run today but I'm too tired now and have a headache so no chance! Looks like I will have to wait a while longer to move back up the leaderboards, now 2nd in the UK and 19th worldwide! :(

You mean break my wheel in sheer frustration because I have to drive the Z like the red car in Ridge Racer.

The upside is that I haven't loaded a ghost yet to see where I'm losing the most time. Guessing it's sector 3.
