GT Academy July 2013!!

Even though I'm tired and was meant to go out I decided to stop in to get an early night (Where I'm heading next :P) anyway got a good hour to try vs Ti-techs 16 ghost to see where I'm losing time and really adapt my style. So a few changes to my own, a check of ti-techs replay I've changed a bit and suddenly coming onto the old straight I was neck and neck until Copse... (I usually don't mess that up but I did...) But I suppose nice to know that I still have lots of time spare!!

I can see Ti-tech probably still has 3 tenths or so, so I'm upping my bet to around a 16.6 as the rank 1 by the end! My target by the end is a 16.9xx I feel confident I could do that with a tiny bit more practice at this :D!

Yes, because how people drive in GT is PRECISELY how they drive in real life. It's all about adapting. There are skills learned via sim that very much translate to the real world (kinda the whole point of this thing), but the nuances of going fast in each are different and the people that understand that will do the best. I ended up 10th or 11th in last years time trials and couldn't drift worth crap at race camp...sure as hell slaughtered the benchmark laps though.

As for steering a car with throttle, that's very much used in the real world. I do it all the time in my miata in sweepers.

Tidgney, that sure is halling the mail if you can get that time! I'm having a hard time adapting to the game from the real thing so I don't think a 16 will be my goal but you never know until you try.

Best of luck to ya I hope you get it! And nice video by the way from a couple pages back. It was a good refresher for me to watch and cool my jets so to speak and settle back into a rhythm.

Initially from early doors I was just expecting a mid 17 but I watched Ti-techs replay also adapted my driving style slightly and line in sector 1 (It's different to Ti-techs so when I nail a decent lap, been failing in last bit recently you'll be able to see it) and also through some of the old sections my line and style changed slightly it really added to it, just smoothness and one of the key things in this drive off the corner!! Will be hard to nail the 16.9xx but it's a good target for me now, I know rank 1 will be faster than that but rank 1 worldwide is insane to get with the skill level so high!

The thing with the transition between GT5 and this is suspension it's very bouncy suddenly :P! Traction loss is quite critical in this as well any form on exit and you lose a ton of time! Sometimes similar to last year it's beneficial to up a gear just for the traction and stability :D!

Hello everyone!

It's been really great to see so many exceptional laps from GTP-tagged and UK users. Having had a long break from the GT scene because of fatherhood and a broken down PS3, I did the 15th anniversary GT event at Silverstone a few weeks back and really got the bug again after trying out the GT6 demo early builds.

I've got a fresh PS3 now and have downloaded the GT6 demo. I actually - embarrassingly - had no idea it was due out on July 2nd and coincidentally spent most of the early hours of July 1st (when the wife and little one went to bed) throwing a Calsonic GT-R around Motegi twin Ring and had a complete hoot.

So, seeing GT6 demo and GT Academy being available for download the day after, well I couldn't resist. Most ill-advisedly, I've waited for the family to go to bed and have been staying up from about 11:30 pm to nearly 3 am two nights in a row now, really getting my teeth into the demo. I spent the first night on the first practice time trial (sector 1) where I managed a 34.068 about 2 and a half tenths off Ramon's blistering sector, and then last night had some serious tries at the second time trial, peaking around 41.445 I think, another 2 tenths off the best time by BanditKarter. I am sure all the times have moved on since.

I have to say, watching Bandit's lines and accuracy around the second sector was a joy, some real impressive displays of ability so far on show, the replays have been quite lovely to watch. I think of all the GT Academy combos, I am enjoying this the most. Silverstone is magnificent, isn't it?

It was interesting to read some people's posts here advising that it's not such a great idea to get caught up trying to master the individual sector time trials, as it doesn't translate particularly well to the full lap trial #5 as braking points and time of day are different. I can't help it though, it feels like a gradual build-up, gently coming up to speed, learning the physics and the nuances of every sector before trying to string it all together in trial 5.

I'll be starting work on time trial practice #3 soon :)

Keep up the magnificent work guys, and I very much look forward to seeing the top UK guys at the national finals 👍

Cheers! I'm flattered! :O I went back to that event just to prove myself that I could do luffield well, and after 4 attempts I set the fastest time so was pretty happy 👍 I think someone pipped me now though 👍

I am pretty certain I spent at least 2 hours on it chasing your ghost. I've never been a fast learner on Gran Turismo. My first week of WRS on the G25 wheel at Eiger Nordwand in the F430 on prologue I spent almost 80 hours that week just to come 11th I think? :P

The best I managed last night was being level with your ghost on entrance to Luffield but I had gotten so used to using your ghost as reference that I was hesitant on the power and saw you ghost through me to lead me around onto the old straight, and I was so close to your bumper I made a royal pig's ear of Copse!

The sector was excellent, the line in Luffield and exit were sublime, all I could hope to do was match it, not better it. Well done!

I'm interested to ask you, how much value do you think spending a lot of time on the individual sectors brings to the full lap trial?

I don't think it helps much at all, it somehow feels like a different track, which I find is a bit annoying :( Although having said that, I felt the full lap had more grip so it might be a pleasant surprise when you get there :)

but it just doesn't seem dpfast enough if you get what I mean I'm still like 9tenths down from the leaders in the uk so where am I going wrong
 
After all day practising the individual sectors an Stage 5 i am now back in the Top20 Uk current best time is 18.287 an 16th in Region.. I had saved Rossi's lap a while back which was 17.910 i was about 2 or 3 tenths fater entering Copse an i didnt take it quick enough an lost momentum... I knew i could go faster so instead of going to bed i stayed up an keep going an going an going.. An now i can sleep :) good luck guys :)
 
Wondering why some people use 2 different accounts to get there name twice in leaderboards. Just don't see point.
 
I dont know too much info this but you have to do your time on your first account or something like that.. For registration details etc if you qualify for nationals..
 
Well, that was... surprising.

Was on the cusp of a 18 on my first night. Started second session today. After three sloppy laps, I drove like an animal and jumped into a 18.37x with a botched Vale. Took me two hours just to knock off a tenth but I did so when I was .200 behind my time exiting Chapel.

A 17.9xx by Sunday is feasible for me if I can banzai drive from Copse on forwards. Even then, my guess for the US cut line is a 17.5xx if last year was an indication.

Gives the rest of us more of a chance I guess, in January GT Academy Tidgney came 8th, only the top six were due to go through, but he got invited in to the top six for whatever reasons.

Well, after I did it once to start off with I continued straight to the full event, I came back to it just to have a bit of practice because I lost time to Ti-tech out of Luffield 👍 I do think that there is a it more grip available on the full lap and obviously the different lighting but it's still good practice for honing your lines 👍

I don't think it will be that demanding. If you look at the leaderboard, A7XMaverick was at the top for the first day, and three days later he's only been bumped back 4 slots or so. Most of the top drivers from GT5 are already on the demo, so there will mainly be new or casual players joining the leaderboard. Also, there are a handful of former finalists that are scattered about the Top 31, so those are more open spots. I think the cut-off for the US will be a 2:17.8xx. Either way, I'm still going to try and get ahead of Ti-tech's blistering time. :dopey:

The thing with the practice events and the final lap I've found is similar to GT5 with the tyres having more life on the first lap. The practice ones give you a chance to use really fresh tyres straight off so it seems like they have more grip. You can actually try this actually on the full lap if you click start and set off, you'll notice vale seems far grippier on lap 1 than any other (Check apex speeds), whether that's tyre temperatures (This does have an effect and want to do a video explaining this) or something else I'm not sure (Like a new tyre suddenly having tons of grip from the glue?).

You can have a bit of a try with tyre temperature by really spinning the wheels up, going straight slightly and then turning, the rear will get really loose really quickly (I'm not a tyre expert so could completely be off with this and it be something else, I mention going straight to stabilize any weight transfer/roll).

Well, improved to a 2:17.398 The first sector was brilliant 37.603 but then I got progressively worse the rest of the lap and completely messed up the last two corners!

That was an accident. I was just going to get gold on my old account just in case it did anything for GT6 in the full game.

I didn't think I would run a fast time but I nailed sector 2 (for me) right after my warm up lap. I didn't push the car so, it was a shock to get a low 18 without trying :lol:

After that, I dove back into my GTP account and ran nothing but low 18s (3-4). But couldn't get the constancy. I ran one lap that much faster coming up to the last chicane but I didn't get a good exit. and wasted .3 drifting.

At the pace the the times are going for the US i'm in no hurry to set my time.

17.7xx would be a cut off, but I'd say a tight cut off by the end of this competition. 17.5xx would be a safe bet to go for, and anything under you can feel quietly confident. I think the issue really is when you get into the 17's it's all about smoothness to really bump up your time so as you gradually get further up it's harder to get. But always remember last year was rather competitive on the UK boards 👍

O holty if your going to the fun day the college is having tomorrow I'll be there working haha lol :P!
