17.7xx would be a cut off, but I'd say a tight cut off by the end of this competition. 17.5xx would be a safe bet to go for, and anything under you can feel quietly confident. I think the issue really is when you get into the 17's it's all about smoothness to really bump up your time so as you gradually get further up it's harder to get. But always remember last year was rather competitive on the UK boards 👍

O holty if your going to the fun day the college is having tomorrow I'll be there working haha lol :P!

Doubt I'll get a time of 17.7 but you never know.. the UK does seem a quick nation unfortunately haha :nervous: Only been playing with a wheel for a year so hopefully if there is a competition next year I may be able qualify then. 👍

I've got cricket all weekend so I'll have to give it a miss haha! Small world huh

I don't think it will be that demanding. If you look at the leaderboard, A7XMaverick was at the top for the first day, and three days later he's only been bumped back 4 slots or so. Most of the top drivers from GT5 are already on the demo, so there will mainly be new or casual players joining the leaderboard. Also, there are a handful of former finalists that are scattered about the Top 31, so those are more open spots. I think the cut-off for the US will be a 2:17.8xx. Either way, I'm still going to try and get ahead of Ti-tech's blistering time. :dopey:
Give it time. There's always some new names that appear out of nowhere on the last week plus the slackers.

It feels nice seeing my name so high on the US rankings, though. Pretty certain not having the cones this year is a big help for me. I'm far more comfortable pushing the limits when they're not around.

Had to get my steering wheel from a storage and give this a try, I thought top 20 in Scandinavian region should be doable.

How little I knew. This year each Scandinavian country has four slots. Being among top 4 in Finland is... well, a lot more trickier. We got Timppaq, we got Zkippe, we got Sutuki, just to name a few contestant. On the other hand, it's really exciting to follow this competition and see who will eventually qualify to the Scandinavian finals.

I'm moving to Norway...

What's the top times in Finland? I'm currently 3rd in Norway with 19.370. Probably have to improve at least 1 sec to be competitive.

I know its still early days but I'm really disappointed with myself. I don't know if its just the combo, me being silly somewhere or just cant get used to the new physics, but the last couple weeks I've seen my TT results get better and better, I would say on the border of D1/2, so usually about .2 - .5 off the best time.... I cant break 19.7, 2.5 off the lead. I've tried being smooth, tried drifting a few corners, nothing seems to work so far.

Watching the replays of the top guys I cant see how you can get on the power so soon, at points I'm at 3/4 throttle and lose the rear when the top guys are already full throttle and not even a twitch...

Sounds like you may be just putting in a tad to much wheel input causing the rear to step out :S? Unless the wheels have lost traction at a previous corner the tyres could still be a tiny bit 'off'? They would be my 2 guesses, I'll hopefully get my wheel and pedal footage up soon (When wheel cam starts working again >.<).

Personally upto a 17.6xx still not my best run... Once again I did what I did yesterday at one point but once again copse I just ran a tiny bit wide red lapping it I then pushed so hard getting back on that I then span out lol. Nevermind still lots of time to go!

Hehe, should be obvious Jesse is prolly (most likely) one there as well. Also there sure is a few guys that will peak a bit later. It'll be a nice battle, tbh I don't yet know if I have what it takes to get to top 4, need this great weather to go worse first :D

Most likely it'll take me another 3-4 sessions to get into the '17's, but hopefully I'll manage to do close to my best in the end.

It's a long comp afterall and this time I think I'll take it slow. But Grandi I need to beat no matter what ;)

So I've been Hungray, but I've never actually heard of a country called Hungray. Nice going guys! xD:

Sitting at a18.5 and holding. Can't seem to stop messing up. I was over.6 up first sector on my ghost and blew it. Guess it's time for a break lol.

I'm in the same boat. Just completed a 20 lap session, 95% of my laps were invalid from barely going wide through Copse. On my current fast lap I really blew it through Becketts.

Haha nice find Eddie :D!

I'm getting a little hungray right now if I'm honest ;)!

If anyones interested my latest lap time I did last night! Pretty average sectors for myself nothing overly quick but this sort of lap usually ends up being a quick lap! Not sure why that is, guess it's just mentality and all that!

Enjoy!

How in the world did I get up to 5th in the US?

Was stuck at a 18.30x all night and on a late run, I was pretty iffy through the first three sectors. Then I did some hocus pocus through Stowe and Vale and knocked off more than I expected. The 17 is there but it may take a few more days to work on certain sections. I can knock off .4 off the first two sectors alone if I can just get the car rotating off the corner.

 Tidgney. Those youtube replays are gold, due to the lack of replay controls in the demo. I miss pausing and sector splits the most. Nice progress thus far. 👍

 outlaw, just watched your latest flyer. Very smooth and quick. 👍

Good luck to all.

EDIT: Tidgeney, you have too many PSN friends. :grumpy:

I wanted to ask, since when silverstone has changed?
I remember it being a smaller track, with less turns.

After a very long nights sleep for me, about 4 hours longer than my usual time, I appear to have made progress.

took about 0.9 seconds off my best lap, and had a few mistakes on the way.

The main corners which I appear to be losing time on are Village, exit of the Loop, Luffield, and Vale / Club.

Village I just cant seem to get right, I can be a car length up on GT_Adam's ghost on entry, but on exit I'm about 2 lengths behind, so 3 car lengths. The exit of the loop I can't seem to get right either. I cant get on the power because I take it too tight, however if I try to open up the steering I just run wide. Luffield I find a very clumsy corner, either get on the power too soon and run wide, or too late and clip the curb on the inside, losing traction and ruining the lap. Vale / Club I can only seem to get it right when I start a fresh lap, by the end of the lap I just can't get it right.

Like many have said, tyre temp seems to be crucial. I get 1 lap out of the tyres, then have to have a cooling lap, then try again.

Just a quick question, roughly what rank do you think the cut-off will be? I know people said about a 17.5, but roughly how many people have already been finalists.

It's really hard to tell, we haven't had a lap this long or 4 weeks of competition before.

I wouldn't bet on being conservative at this point, let's just put it that way.

But again, you never know.

I think he was asking what rank in the UK will be the cut off, or in other words, who can't qualify for this years finals in the UK?

Ah, right.

All of the country qualifications are outlined here:
http://www.gran-turismo.com/gb/academy/2013/

For the UK it's as follows -
16 from the online qualifier, 8 from wildcard events = 24 to Regional Finals.

Only 6 from there go to Racecamp.

Hey Britain's a small country (comparably xD) so if you guys really want a good shot I suggest you make a date for places like Goodwood Festival of Speed and such for those wildcards if you're having a tough time in the TT.

Don't be fooled by early times... I imagine the cut off will be high 16s for the Uk, it has only just started people will find more and more time as it goes on, even on ti-techs 16.9 you can see there is places were he has absolutely nailed it,
Seems to be really competitive this year, more so than previous years, a lot of the names seems to be new names.
Haven't had much spare time myself so I need to put it the time at some point, but still plenty of time to go, just over a second down and I'm about 40th

Bah! Was on course for a 1:18.1 after being 3 tenths up by sector 2 but then bottled it and messed up the 3rd to last corner so I improved to a 1:18.3.

EDIT: I worked out a 1:17.9 is in reach since I know I can also take off 2 tenths in the first sector but perhaps I shouldn't try since I'm not 18 yet. :dopey:

Almost had a road rage incident.

Posted a 2:19.1 on Thursday.
This morning;
2:18.9 (failed to register)
2:18.7 (failed to register)
2:18.4 (failed to register)

After restarting each time, finally got in and registered 2:18.5

Anyone else having problems registering times?

I did ran a 18.3 and it didnt register yesterday. Was fuming.

I noticed that a few of my laps didn't register when I crossed the line, however I exited and it registered when back in the 'lobby'. I prefer that, as when it registers on the line the frame rate slows up and I always mess up turn 1 :D

Wow nice times, just did about 20 full laps and my best was a high 2:21.7xx

Sector 3 with the S´es is the most fun part so I almost played a few days on that part of the track.
