Oh boy what a learning curve here :D ! I feel like I need to learn to drive again.

Great job all the guys in the 17's.. seems like there's not much trouble getting used to this for some. 👍 Luckily this is a long comp and there's plenty of time to catch up. ;)

how are people already getting onto the final time trial? Thought it was suppose to open when the qualifier closed, yet there's 16 times on the leaderboard.

i play on a ds3 as well and left my driving options on default and still got gold on all events. :sly:

also a heads up to anyone who wants to play the final event early ahead of july 29th, change the date to 29/07 and load up gt academy 2013. Then just go into "gt 15th anniversary" in special events and the 3rd time trial has been revealed:

a time trial around silverstone in a nissan gt-r nismo gt3 n24 schulze motorsport '13. I also currently have the online record for this event... Hehehehehehehehe. :sly:

This whole turning the car with the Throttle thing is really pissing me off. It is SO crucial to master that skill. And along with being a novice at the wheels steering angles I may as well just consider this practice for next year.
 
dayofwar, I've raced you online before, and I completely agree. The physics engine rewards powersliding, rather than throttle control. If you cannot powerslide, you won't have a chance at making it to Silverstone. it's really disappointing that PD chose this tire model.

They might as well have the top drivers enter Formula Drift, rather than Le Mans.

If you (3rd) suck you won't have a chance at making it to silverstone anyway. No matter how the game is set up the guys with the skill to do it will be on top in the end, there's no going around it.

Our job now is now to adapt.

And tbh, if you can't "powerslide" this car, maybe it just needs more practise. ;) (like me atm)

It should be obvious to all really, that with unlimited tries, no fear of injury and limitless "budget" you'll end up with unrealistic driving. That's just the end result of all of the normally limiting things being limitless. It really has little to do with real life. In this regard the demo does not represent real life that good, but it is what we need to live with. It's just a game afterall remember :cheers:

Yes, because how people drive in GT is PRECISELY how they drive in real life. It's all about adapting. There are skills learned via sim that very much translate to the real world (kinda the whole point of this thing), but the nuances of going fast in each are different and the people that understand that will do the best. I ended up 10th or 11th in last years time trials and couldn't drift worth crap at race camp...sure as hell slaughtered the benchmark laps though.

As for steering a car with throttle, that's very much used in the real world. I do it all the time in my miata in sweepers.

Just read in the GT6 forum, they are changing the date of their PS3's to that day and it unlocks it.

yup i just tried it. Gold is 2:09.5 and I did 3 laps and ran a 2:09.1 then i changed the date back as it said the qualifying event was now closed

I'm getting it, I'm 8th in the US at the moment... so it's getting there. But it has added a new learning curve that most experienced drivers will surpass, but it doesn't reflect what a 370Z would handle like on a real surface. Like others, like Wardez, have said it's because of the tire modeling.

Otherwise PD's demo is beautiful.

Im pretty sure that if a car was sliding around like this on a real track the tires would get shredded.


Anyways after 5 hours i reduced my time by 5 seconds. Still a lousy 225 though
 
Well got into 2:18's now still got bunch more I can get if I could ever put a lap together. But thats good enoigh for the night.

Have you taken a look at the replay of Ti-Tech85's time that leads the ranks? That's some smooth driving with very little in the way of sliding motion. All about timing, excellent brake control, and efficiency in getting the power out early.

Still a bit of work for myself to get into the 17's, but it sure has been fun driving this combo 👍
 
You guys have so much time, I really recommended that you guys pace yourselves in these first two weeks so you don't burn yourselves out before things get REALLY serious in the last week. Unless you can't play up to deadline for whatever reason.

Otherwise, yeah, don't do those 10 hour sessions till it's the last four days or so. Even then, remember that you need to take at least 20 minute breaks every 2 or 3 hours so your brain can refresh and doesn't get stuck in a bad habit in driving. Think of it just like weight training. You need to give those racing "muscles" a break in order to let them grow and become a part of you! Recovery periods are important here too.
 
A .690 T1, followed by a good beginning of T2 made me a bit nervous. Still ended up with a 2'17.513. I wish we could view split times in replays.

Good advice Eddie. I'm likely to miss the last week so I need an advantage.:p
 
Down to a 2:17.542 :) starting to reach my limit for now at least, my 3 best sectors so far put me at a mid 2:17.4.

Personally if anyone wants any idea how long I've played the qualifier:

Day 1: Max 30 Laps (I actually think it was 10L, 6L, 11L)
Day 2: 22 laps (10L, 12L)

It adds upto about 3 hours. The best advice to add onto Eddies also is sometimes a day away from the demo can actually really help. What it will do is give you a fresh perspective on the event when you come back to it, and a fresh brain which you never know what you can do :)!

But ye remember there's 25 days or w/e left. You'll burn out very quickly if people are doing 10 hour sessions (Wish I could get more than 2 hours in a day if I'm honest :P!). You'll lose all drive (Mentally) and you won't enjoy it the same! Remember being top 16 now doesn't matter, it's top 16 on that final day that matters :) it's then you may want to increase your playtime!

But hey, I use a pad and only put in about 2 hours so far. I would be glad with a 2'20.xxx

It's fascinating how many of the regulars from GTP Racing Series you can discover in the overall leaderboards.

Since there is no competition for my country this year, I can't see myself putting in the time, but it's good practice for the Silverstone races to come in GT6. It's amazing how difficult I find this track is to be fast at. Most other tracks you're a lot closer from the first 5 laps.
 
Some crazy fast times out there already! I think if I were 20 years younger I’d be putting in a couple of hours a day as well, but I guess I’ve never been a real hotlapper. I’m enjoying driving around too much to have it ruined by restarting a non-perfect lap.
Currently at 2:24 flat with probably a few seconds to spare.

I would like to point out that even if sliding the car around the corners was faster in real life, racing drivers still wouldn't do it for a couple of reasons:

1. Sliding wears down the tyres substantially, so that any time actually gained from sliding is lost because the tyres can no longer grip as well.

2. Sliding is very difficult to do consistently. In a time trial such as the GT Academy qualifier, if you mess up you just pause and restart. Eventually the planets will align and you'll master every corner to set that killer lap. In an actual race, messing up would mean spinning off, or worse, crashing the car. To gain only a tenth or two, it's not worth it.

This is why I prefer competing in online races instead of time trials, as they are much closer to real life racing than pushing at 100% and crashing every other lap.

In other news, I'm down to 23rd in the UK (178th overall) with a 2:18.541. :)
 
Slid the car a bit and bam, 1:18.792. That's just shocking how much time you can find by sliding the car a bit. I found 4 tenths with an average final sector pretty much instantly as soon as I settled back in.

Good job, I matched your time in the 1st extra event on the national circuit earlier but I've no chance on the full track, I'm like two seconds behind you. :lol:

I'll probably do the 2nd extra event now before I go back to the academy event, my target is just to get into the 2.19s for now. :dopey:
