I know plenty of people who pay for their own cars. I was really asking, what makes your car so special, bcause to me it looks stock with the exception of only 2 aftermarket wheels. I'm not trying to bash you or anything, but to me i wouldn't call it impressive. To me impressive would be lot's of self-done fabrication and a very balanced car.

A buddy of mine just bought an '04 SLK230 and he's 18. I wouldn't call it impressive, just lucky.

an 04 SLK at 18, I'd be a lil impressed

you're rich. so is the 18 year old that got an 04 slk. around here, you dont see many rich kids with nice cars. and once again battle_stage, what do you drive?

the only other good car that i've seen made by a person my age, paid for on his own with his own job, is another 240sx that i saw on cardomain. he is really the only person my age that i respect for his car. if you had to pay for yur own car, then i guess you might understand. but if you think it's cooler to have your parents buy you a car...then iono...i guess you wouldnt understand the fulfillment that people like me feel when we are able to pay for everything ourself. do you even have a car? a job? =\

you can get an NSX for around 30 grand these days. 1995's are the most popular used NSX's and sell for anywhere between 25 and 37 grand depending on trim level and condition.

your point... 30+ grand for a 9 year old over rated car... ill pass... yeah they look hot, but I'd rather spend 20 more for a new M3

I think it is very admorable, that you are paying for everything yourself. I had to do the same thing. I have had to work my ass off, for everything I've ever owned. So I can deffinately understand where you are coming from. I think everyone should have to work for their frist car. It makes you appreciate it more, and makes you take better care of it. I don't have anything against people that get things for free, but I don't think it's the best course of action, on the parents part.;)

iono though, i didnt like having to save up all that money haha...i think when ima parent, i'm gonna buy my kid a car, then the kid has to pay me back a certain amount every month till its all paid off. and i wont get the kid the car unless he or she has a good job that he or she can afford to make payments with.

i just hated having to save up all the money =[
it took such a long time =[

One thing you have to remember prah is that it's all about respect. I am probably one of the most adivant vehicle worshiping car enthusiest around (along with the members of my IRL car club) and we all give the most respect to people who have purchased their own cars. I mean, don't get me wrong, when your parents will buy you a car, especially one as nice as an Evo, it's very cool, extremely cool even, but we just usually place it a notch below the person who's perchased their own car, usually no matter what it is, and has made it fast or very attractive.

Just my little input.

I don't know where you live but you seem to have the impression everyone's parents buys them a car. I know a few people who were given crappy cars, and one person whose parents bought him a nice car, and the rest of the people I know have all paid their own way. I think it's less rare than you think. Don't get me wrong though, it's definetely the right way to go. If you don't have to earn your car, you can't possibly respect it as much.

i think i know what prahjec is talking about.. man in SD there are so many kids with new Mercedes or BMW or even Porsche that don't know anything about the mechanics of the cars..

I think I might flip out if I lived in a place where I had to watch rich kids doing things all day that I only dream of doing...

Yeah, it would drive me up the wall. ;)

and it does, i wish i was rich so my parents would buy me an evo or sti or 350z or etc etc etc etc

i would have gotten an R32 GT-R as soon as i turned 16 if i was a rich kid O_O

but yeah perg, every single day down here in san diego, you see these kids who look younger than i do driving things like bmw 3 or 5 series, even M3's and M5's. it's just sickening =[

I don't think the parents actually buy their sons/daughters cars, but they buy it for the whole family and just let the teenagers drive it around once in a while.

If the teenagers actually own the cars, then they will have to pay for the full monty, and that would be a burden.

the car cant be in the kids name even if they paid for it until they're 18. i know, cuz my car is in my dads name even though im paying for it, and will remain in his name till i'm 18 next month.

what are you guys getting me for my bday? ;]

That's something new to me. I didn't know that lol. The more fortunate teenagers around me don't care about what is underneath the hood but only the brand name. It's really rare to come around a car fanatic or someone who really knows about cars.

I think that's universal now though. So many "car freaks" out there these days don't actually care about the cars but the image associated with them.
