once i saw a screen shot of GT2 in 800x600, sharp as hell. Can gt2 be played on pc? If yes, how?....the search feature sucks here.

Playing console games on a computer is called "emulation," and a program that plays Playstation games would be a "playstation emulator." You won't find information about emulation here -- because it's illegal, and GTP doesn't allow discussion of illegal activities -- but now that I've told you what it's called, you should be able to find out more on your own using google.

Funnily enough, GT2 is the last game I think of when I think of the benefits of higher resolution (because bleemCAST! does higher res textures in GT2 better than ePSXe does). Now J&L:SCR (A.K.A. TOCA 3), that is a game that benefits from better res.

R4 is as well. It's rather scary how held back some later PSX games were.

Yes I agree. No more discussion on Bleemcast or emulators. :) Because it's illegal :D and we shouldn't talk about it. So we won't talk about it anymore :) :) And we won't talk about how much better it makes our game look. :D  :D Oh sheiße I'm still talking about it. :)

AFAIK emulation is legal as long as you have a copy of the bios you're using, aswell as the original game, of course - which means you have to have an original playstation, as i'm sure the OP has.

And for the record, GT2 doesn't look that much better in high res... Even in 1024x768 with fsaa x6 and aa x16 :(

ok guys,
i just installed the psx emu software and all neccessary plugins and bios and all that, and i ran GT2 arcade disc...and i just went into a race, but the only prob i have now is...the game runs horrible fast...its very hard to control the car...the music...videos everything runs very very fast.

what i have to do to get it to normal speed?

fiddle around with the video plugin, limit the frame rate to 50.0 (what the real Play Station runs at)

Do you happen to have a comparison shot between ePSXe and bleemcast running gt2?
I'm interested in how bleemcast improves the textures :)

i don't use Bleemcast, i used to use bleem!, but now that i'm on XP......:indiff:

Where do you get the file? Or do you just use your GT2 disk to play?

EDIT: I think I got it.

EDIT: No I don't.

EDIT: Now I'm downloading a link I found.

bleemcast!:

ePSXe:

PSX:

ePSXe has polygonal tearing in the distance in GT2, but bleemcast plays just like someone doubled the resolution and added AA (which is what bleemcast did). bleemcast also doesn't screw up the HUD like ePSXe does.

what do you mean by polygonal tearing? how epsxe screw up the HUD?

Polygonal Tearing (I believe it is the correct term):

Messed up HUD:

Both emulated versions suffer from this part:

for comparison with above image:

i have pSX, ePSXe, VGS (with XP patch), psx even, psEMU, and PCSX (i think i have more aswell

Tornado - try a different Graphics plugin, the quality of ePSXe, psEMU, PCSX, and psx even will depend on the graphics plugin, i use Pete's D3d driver v1.75, it works well:)

i'll get a pic of each emulator:)

I see. I think those polygon tearing caused by gpu plugin, have you try the gpu plugin on other emulator? pcsx give the same result.

Maybe manual anisotropic or mipmap or level of detail setting on video card will help?

to cure HUD messed up try using diffferent texture filter (maybe 1. standard will work better)

I get this when I try to load the Arcade disk:

Do I need another graphics plugin? Bios?

The first can be explained by mipmapping i think. Check your video card settings (mind you, not in the emulator) and make sure they're on 'highest quality'.

The rest is a sideeffect from emulating as far as i know. The source art has a very low resolution and the translation to higher res simply makes it look very pixelated, or skewed. It depends on texture filtering as far as i know, in the emulator options.

I just realized that I installed the scph1000 bios instead of the scph1001 bios. I hope it will work.

EDIT: It's working great! Now I just need to configure the fps

I think so too, using highest quality in video card could improve it. Maybe full antialiasing feature can help too.

In epsxe, if you use PEOPS software gpu, you get square green bar too.
PEOPS software gpu, H2Q mode:

pete d3d gpu:

polygon tearing in software mode is exist in shape of polygon jagginess. Maybe when the video card try to draw the polygon, it create tearing.

i used the bleemCast but the bad thing is if u have to save the data in the VMU take all blocks :S please somebody tellme more about the psx emu and how to play gt2 in pc send me a PM

I use PCSX rather than ePSXe cause PCSX allows for the negcon plugin so you have better analog control on steering gas & brake. This is what a Geforce 6800 Ultra can do to GT2 at 800x600, 2XFSAA & Bilenear Filtering
