Gt4 Release Date

Dappa it was originally confirmed in the US as November and officially PD has said the US will get GT4 first so 26/10 is a bit of a gamble but then again could well be a surprise but I for one doubt it.

At SCE Europe official Press Vault November is still the case. At the release by SCE Germany of today (23rd September) GT4 is scheduled for Q4 2004 release in PAL territories.

No firm date, however.

I picked up an advertising leaflet for GT4 at my local games shop today. Titled Gran Turismo 4, and in larger text, the Update. There were leaflets for a couple of other games, Getaway, This Is Football 2005, and another one I can't remember.

For the first time I've seen November as an Official release date. Well at least narrowed down to a month.

So for all those who say"Sony have never given a release date, so how can it be delayed", they have now. If it doesn't arrive in November, then it's been delayed. :)

The leaflet has replay and photomode shots. A large picture of a Mazda RX7 taken from a race replay, with a Skyline and an Evo VIII I think, behind it. A picture of a box with a plain white cover, with the GT logo and GT4 title. Underneath it says temporary packshot.

It also says Players- 1-2(offline) 2-6(online).

If I had a scanner, I would upload it, but I don't, so I can't. :)

Im not trying to fuel any doubt about the Nov. release date info. I went into ToysRus yesterday to buy my kids some hot wheels, noticed they had a preorder dislay for various PS2 games. GT4 was listed. This was a disply put up by a sony rep for that store. The info for GT4 said it was going to arrive in mid-November. This display also had pre-order info for Burnout3 and listed a 9/11 release date for that game (which had already past but was accurate).
The guy at the counter pulled up a release date update sheet he said the rep gives them each week. He first showed me that the date would be Oct. twenty something, then he realized it was an old update. He then found the newest one given to the store the previous day that listed Oct. 1st as the instore date. He said that these updates get more accurate the closer the date is. These lists were on sony letterhead.

Doesnt matter much to me if its Nov or Oct, Im gonna buy the game anyway, have bought the other three on the first day they came out. :sly:

I spoke to a friend who works for Sony yesterday, and asked if GT4 had been in for testing, and the answer was no. :( What this means for release dates, I don't know.

He did say GTA - San Andreas had just completed testing, for all those that are interested. So that should hit its release date, unless it is delayed for othe reasons. When I posted the news in the GTA forum, some thought that they may hold it back for release with the new "tiny" PS2.

This is UK testing by the way.

im positive its november 1st because i reserved it at gamestop last week and thats what they told me

but now that i know it hasnt been through testing mabye not

but pobably

Trust me, GameStop knows nothing more about GT4's release than any of us here.
As soon as SONY/PD makes a statement, the boards will light up with the news.
Then you can compare GS (and all of the other retailers) to SONY and see if they are the same.

Be patient,

MasterGT

In addition it adds 14th December for US and Europe... Dunno about Aus tho... probs the same!!

"Gran Turismo 4 has finally been given a release date. There’s no doubt that’s great news. However, it may not be exactly the same GT4 that the fans were waiting for: Sony has dropped all the game’s online features. The promise of online play was one of the main distinguishing features of the fourth GT instalment, but the indefinite delays experienced so far had largely been attributed to its tricky implementation. It’s a pretty major disappointment: one that’s barely compensated by Sony and Polyphony’s rather vague claim that an online version is planned for 2005.

It does seem a strange move on Sony’s part, though. Gran Turismo’s following is a fanatical one, with many early PS2’s sold on the strength of GT3. As such, there are a lot of people waiting patiently for an online Gran Turismo title: whilst the likes of PGR2 and Burnout 3 whiz past on either side. Many of these same folk would probably have put up with a delay if it meant the eventual arrival of the fully online enabled GT4, but now a difficult dilemma will present itself. Buy offline GT4 this year, or wait indefinitely for an online version which may or may not go on offer at cut-price?

Considering that the Polyphony masterpiece is a Sony exclusive, the precedent it is setting is all the more peculiar. When there are 4 separate versions of a game, it is usually down to fundamental differences in hardware platforms. Gran Turismo 4, however, will have 3 different PS2 incarnations (Prologue, offline and online) as well as a ‘near-identical’ PSP version in GT4 Mobile. We’ve heard about not putting all your eggs in one basket, but when the egg’s made of gold and the basket’s a souped up Nissan Skyline, we had assumed the proverb didn’t apply.

We are still awaiting the official word on next year’s online outing, but Gran Turismo 4, in its offline form, will be released in Japan on 3rd December; with US and European releases following in the week of December 14th."

Is this lot true?

As previously stated "sponge" is not the best source for news... They have been wrong many times before... However, if it is true that's fine with me... The GT series has always been about the immersive simulation mode, and that is why I have bought every game since GT1... I am much more excited about the offline content than being able to play with someone from another state (or country)... I do not want PD to sacrifice anything just so people can have online battles... Although, I am sure this bit of news is probably untrue...

;)

Yes GT4 has droppen the online mode for now, PD are still working it and will release it seperately next year, it was annouced at the TGS yesterday and is due to network problems in Europe and Japan.

^ it really is sony's fault that they didnt sort out there online service soon enough...it was almost two years after the PS2's introduction before the network adaptor appeared in europe.........and we still don't have the HDD!

........but I'm not really bothered because I cant go online with my V1 PS2 anyway......

We won't get the HDD. The PStwo can't support it.

When you say V1 PS2,

a) does the period around xmas 2002 (UK PAL) count?
B) If it does, does that mean i can't use the network adapter?
c) are you saying the PS2 will never support a HDD?
d) If b and c are true, that sucks.

The HDD wil probably never come out in Europe. Officially.

The new PSTwo can't support it, but Sony said they would look for other options to store larger amounts of data with the new one. This probably will be done by a large capacity memorycard. Let's say, 64MB. Because the new one doesn't support a HDD, the introduction for the old PS2 will probably never happen. Not releasing Final Fantasy XI on the PS2 in Europe gives us a hint of what strategy Sony is going to follow.

I heard of the fact that the earliest version of the ps2 can't go online, but I don't know for sure.

HDD will not be out until PS3. Sony did announce that the PS3 will be using the Blu-Ray that will be able to do HDD. Games are going to be unreal when that happens. Programers will be able to put over 5x's the data on one cd (24.5 GB compared to 4.9). Sony is planning on unveiling the design plus release times in March 2005.

(i think my dates are accruate, i read an article this morning)

Not intending tobe a showoff technohead here, but though the basic staement of your post is correct

A dvd holds 4.7GB of data, not 4.9
A bluray disc typically will typically hold about 23.5GB of data, however, the PS3 ones will be a maximum of 21 or so. As for the hard disk that would make sense, as where is there to put a HDD in a ps2 anyway?

i dont know if its big enough, but isnt there a big opening in the back behind a pop out plate?
