GT4 will be near perfection

Thats a fair enough opinion, but the graphics are still better than GT4's, even though GT4 is a better game overall IMO.

One important question for us all;
How long will Polyphony spend doing "Final Polishing" of graphics and the like before finally releasing the code to Sony?
I've heard 3 months .

I really hate it when fans of the GT series go and bash other racing games just because they don't hold up to GT's standards. I say any racing game is worth something as they show my favourite thing in the world driving and racing cars. I agree that GT4 or GT3 for that matter are the best overall in all catergories that a racing game should be judged on. Yes PGR2 may have better and more detailed cars but it lacks in realistic handling, not that's it a bad thing, but because I love racing games I would love to give PGR2 a go or any racing game for the matter.

Sorry I know the guy that made this captures, he use a standart PC video capture card attached to a standart PS2 video exit, all of this caps are PS2 generated, btw repeat that none PC emu or dev tool can render a single PS2 frame without a dedicated based PS2 external hard(SDK). The hi-res caps of GT4 are rendered internally on this hard and transfered to a PC only for postprocess(scale the supersampled frames and gamma correction).

PGR2 runs at 30fps. Frame rate is apart of the graphics and PGR2 has many many inccaurate things about the car models. Also the car paint is not even close to looking realistic. Can you find one metalic paint job? It even looks worse driving at night. The image qualty is years beyond GT3/4 but the realistic looks of GT3/4 surpasses PGR2's cartoony unreal look.

Example. The cars in PGR2 look fine in the shadows, but when they hit the sunlight they get this bad specular level effect that blankits the reflection mapping and shouldn't even be there.

I've spent many many hours in 3D Studio max trying to get a realistic look on my car models and if you have good reflection mapping there's no need for a low level white colored specular map

Try this link if it works, there is no specular mapping added to the render . look at the first pic then the others. The others are specular mapped to simulate shinyness without reflection.

Avexia

Having both games running a replay at the same time GT3 still looks better IMO becuase of the realism.

Exactly my point. GT4 looks more realistic to me because of the good use of reflections, shadows... I think PGR2 looks very good but I don't consider them as "realistic looking" as GT4's. IMO PGR2 looks good mainly because of the colour pallette (mispelled?) and because of the high polygon count.

cobragt said it right. slowdown happens with either sloppy coding or over-enthusiastic use of hi-res imagery. As in pgr, which looks great and in some ways (textures, colour, resolution, techy stuff, 3d wheel models) better than gt4 (though gt4 looks much more REAL, so settle down fanboys) but has a 30fps frame rate compared to gt4's 60.
sorry i mean pgr2 not pgr

yeah ok...

The cars are inccaurate? LOL sure they are! And that white light effect is barely even noticable. I doubt it's too make up for bad mapping (see piccy below), it's just a small effect they put in, and a pretty one too.

cant get piccy to work lol

mehebh I'm stupid, but those cars look ok to me, as does the paint. In still shots the cars can look abit crappy and rubbery, but when it's moving it doesn't. Oh and theres your metallica paint job. OFC GT4 has a more realistic style, but I still have places in my hearts for realism and pure show off flash-ness! What would be a nice is a game with PGR2 tech and GT4 realism hehe. I'm happy anyway, I shall own both and have the best arcade style racer and the best simulation racer :) hehe.

exactly. PGR2 is flashy and very pretty, especially in motion, but gt4 is grittier and more "real" looking because of their almost masochistic devotion to their games. I obviously pick gt4 as the favourite, but pgr2 definitely is a well-earned 2nd place in my book, and not despite it's arcade physics, but because of them

yeah well the guy (tyrone rodriguez) who does the car stuff is a complete moron. its forgiveable for just videogame reviewers, but this guy is a "journalist". All you need to know is he wrote video game reviews for a car magazine (terrible mag by the way, called super street, which started this whole "JDM" craze along with the obsession with driftingand then ended up reviewing cars on a video game site. go figure. (side note: About this emphasis on drifting: I mean its cool in japan with the pros and stuff, but all these idiots who worship AE86s as if they are the pinnacle of automobile enginreering and use the designation "SR20DET" as many times as possible to fill in their lack of automotive knowledge, well thats just stupid. You know what people SHOULD be worshipping? REAL drifters: rally drivers. And it's not called an "inertia drift" as you silly initial d watchers call it, its a "Scandinavian flick", and nobody is making comic books about farmers from finland. Rant finished.)

Too true, too true...

LIke I said, in the shadows. The pic is shown on the shadow side and it's very noticable. The reflection mapping is way better then GT3, its just that damn white specular map in the sunlight.

Edit: Tekk, notice that white patch on the front corner of the RX7? That should not even be there.

Thats a damnfine Toyota, they arn't talking about the car in the pic, their talking about the one in the carpark outside, obviousley. Lol.

That RX-7 looks terrible. If that is the "Great" PGR2 graphics I keep hearing certain people talk about then I am severely disappointed. GT3 looks much better than that, much less GT4.

Let me get this straight. Some of you actually think that this:

pgrInline2.jpg

looks anywhere near as good as GT3/4????? PGR2 is vastly overrated, IMO.

those car pics look utter crap.....you would never see a PD modeled car like that

"Look at me, I'm Majin and I'm thick enough to judge an entire game on a few crappy screenshots, duh yuh"

Majin and viper, don't be lame enough to judge it on these screens shots. PGR2 is easily the best looking racing game out, but your combined lack of sense, and total devotion to the myth that GT3/4 looks real, clouds this. You must un learn what you have learned, and see with eyes not cloud with crap. Oh and PLAY THE DAMN GAME FIRST. Fools.

http://www.gameinfowire.com/image.asp?iid=21924&gid=300&pg=6&pid=1

looks ok to me, and isn't it weird how every site and mag that reviews PGR2 allways says that it looks amazing. Must be a conspiracy!

...don't tell me, it's a render! HOW DARE ANYGAME LOOK BETTER THEN GT4...even if it is running on better hardware...DUHHH!

I still love GT games even if a few of ppl on the GT forums are moronic fanboys (I feel cheap using the word "fanboy" lol). I kinda grew out of being a fanboy when I was younger, I hope some people on this forum can hurry up and do the same, then we can probs have a decent discussion about games!

i dont think Gt4 looks real!!!

the reason i judge pgr2 on those pics is you would never see crap pics like that of gt3/4, plus i dont really like the look of pgr2 any way the cars look strange its hard to explain. even the link you posted that enzo looks strange....not as good as gt4.... but i have to admit the background looks good

Good god we don't give a flying ****, like I said if you want everybody to agree with all your statements on PGR2 go on a forum proper to that game. Little jesus please come and save us :( :banghead:

OMFG you said a naughty word, as indicated by the stars, and emotes. You must be one cool dude to use naughty words and emote smilies in THE SAME POST. Respect to you home boy, or what ever they say in the hood. Jesus can not save you, no one can save you from a GT4 fan who also happens too like PGR2 also.

oh and ************************** off.

allmost forgot too use an emote!

:irked: RAH!

ppl obviously DO want too talk about GT4 and it's competition, because if they didn't the thread wouldn't be quite so long now would it?

Um, first off, I can only evaluate the game according to the screenshots I've seen as I have no (and no use for an) XBOX. My only point (if you weren't such a simple minded idiot) was that if the graphics of PGR2 are as wholly incredible as you claim, there wouldn't be ANY crappy screenshots, now would there? I have never seen any screenshots for GT3/4 that compare to as utterly awful as those screenshots for PGR2 are. And, btw, that Ferrari you linked to is not that great. It looks like it was carved out of wood.

I can't say that PGR2 is not a good game because I haven't played it, but I can and will judge its visual appeal according to the screenshots I have seen. IGN has many pics of the game and it is not that impressive.

If anybody here is a pathetic little fanboy it is you (apparently you haven't grown that much). I don't recall saying anything about you personally, yet when I dared to criticize the look of PGR2, here you come (tears in eyes and links in hand, "but look at this!! PGR2 is so great 'cause the mags said it looks amazing!") launching attacks on me and Viper for expressing our opinons, as is our right in a forum.

I kinda grew out of being a fanboy when I was younger, I hope some people on this forum can hurry up and do the same, then we can probs have a decent discussion about games!

I suppose a "decent discussion about games" to you is a discussion where everyone agrees with you and nobody dares criticize a game you like. There is a word for people like you: immature. Please try to act older than 12 in the future.

i dont pay much attention to what mags say anyway.
just look how ign called the RX7 a toyota, half the mags and game websites dont know what the hell there talking about exept you can do cars up and they have nice refections

I've gotta say PGR2 does generally look crap in many screenshots, BUT, ingame it does look a hell of a lot better. Although I'd still give the 'Most Realistic looking award' to GT4, PGR2 is one of the nicest looking racers out there. And possibly one of the greatest examples of screenshots not doing it true justice.

:)

I'm sure if it was an Xbox game with the GT name, cobragt would say it looked real

old-school%20camera_082803_001.jpg

bow at the majesty of gt4 graphics.

I think PGR2 is amazing because I've played it, and I'm a massive fan of car racing games. What made me respond so wasn't your opinion, but the way you put it across. "ugh this is crap", not really the best way to get a point across with out pissing someone off. As Tr-5 said, it screenshots VERY badly.
