The Enzo Shot looks like Most PC / XBOX screenshots, in that is too sharp, and edgy which detracts from any realism.
Perhaps some softening would help.
Look at the wheel arches!

The car looks disproportioned with far too much ground clearence.
Reflection is poor and lighting is Bland.

Are those rims 3D?

In General It is the attention to every minor detail, that PD painstaikingly model or include in game, that other game developers neither have the time or will to bother with, that makes it stand out from everything else.

Code Kev That early....... GT4 Dev shot with the old Track model for Laguna Seca (the new improved one has yet to be seen) and the muscle car, maybe less detailed than the PGR2 one but it looks much more dramatic than the lifeless ferrari you posted.

I posted that gt4 shot to show that many games can photo badly.

So you'd rather have bland blurry graphics? And is real life blurry? No. IMO the sharper something is, the better. Would u rather play gt4 in 640-480 res or 1200-1024 or what ever? I'd rather have a decent res thank you!

NOTE THE GROUND CLEARENCE, a ferrari isn't your modded nova remember, it actually has some ground clearence.

But of course it is!!!

It's the new 3d engine. Now the crowds won't sink they're feet on the ground.

And it's NOT a render

NOTE THE CAR IS LEANING TO THE LEFT, it turning right and i know its not going 15mph :)

Man just give up. I own and play PGR so I know enough to judge its graphics and compare them with my knowledge of material mapping.

for more in game graphics go to www.autotrader.com, no joke people, for real!

this is in game, I played it on my ps2 last night, and it looked EXACTLY like this, no lie. See the person in the back ground, notice how his foot sinks? HUMAN ELEMENT!!

happy? and we arnt talking about pgr1, pgr1 is pretty ugly in comparison to gt4 and gtc.

jeez im turning in to jpeg boy, no more for me today i think!

Man, the Enzo is so ugly! I don't understand what happened to Ferrari. They used to make cars that I'd want to have sex with. I wouldn't even take the Enzo out to Burger King!

Ja the enzo is pretty ugly for a ferrari, but it's fast lol. Umm I saw a piccy of a new ferrari, can't remember the name but it was beautiful, but not as fast :(

ahh the successor to the 456GT no? pretty nice, although a solid step backward in ferrari design in my book. I'm trying to remember the name....it'll come to me later.

I doubt this will be the last word, but let me sum it up succintly: PGR2 is beatiful, theres no way around it. The screenshots are sketchy, but I just bought it today and let me tell you, its a lot easier on the eyes than you'd expect, especially the superb texture work (especially backgrounds. wow). And the lighting. And the car models believe it or not. Plus it has some cool arcadey damage modelling, so its nice to have some kind of reminder not to hit walls, something that the gt series could definitely use (slamming into other cars and walls at over 100mph just feels wierd when all that follows is a dull thud and very mild deceleration). So stop your yammerin and just play the game. Of course, if you're too ghetto to have any kind of progressive scan, it definitely detracts.

Yes PGR2 may have damage but it looks terrible much like the car is made of clay or something, but the actual cars look quite nice but the GT series is always number 1 in my book.

Looks like clay eh, I disagree. While the damage is not hyper realistic, I found it to look quite nice and quite realistic. The Paint marks when you scrape the car, lights smash, hoods pop up, bits bend, number plates snap off, windows crack etc. Quite good imo, plus at least it has it!

well always remember we dont have visual car damage not because PD doesnt want to put it in, its because some of the car manufacturers dont want it... so yea if it wasnt for them we'd have it in GT4..

No its because PD know the PS2 wouldn't be able to handle realistic damage the way Kaz wants it to be so this results in no damage.

No, it's licencing issues, your thinking of that interview where KY said the PS2 couldn't do damage as good as he would like, but even if it could he couldn't get licences for all the cars to include damage.

Yestarday got an Project Gotham Racing 2. I've manage to play first few championships and these are the inpressions so far:

- graphic is good, but not good as one seen in developing screenshots. I don't want to be misunderstood: visuals are far better then one seen in previous game, and game looks freakin great. But, sadly, developer screens are developer screens, not in-game graphic. Great job has been done in lightning of the course, and in reflections on cars. City looks great - have played only Florence so far - and I guess the real treats are still to come: Nurbergring Nordschleife Sydney, Moscow, Stockholm...

- sound is cool, surround is great and engine sounds are impressive

- intro movie is a very noce rendered Enzo. Menus are OK, and real treat are two very very nice modes: "garage" and "showroom". Garage is a true 3D garage, you can walk around your cars as in FPS game, you can watch up-down-left-right, you can crouch to see the rims or a car form a different perspective. Unfortuanatlly, you can't stand on your fingertoes to have an look form the above:). In a Garage you can only check the cars in a current class of the chapionship you're participating, and nice thing is that cars you still have to unlock are covered with "blanket". Nice feature is that you can change the car color in realtime while in garage. But Showrom is a place for every automotive maniac: in Showroom mode you find yourself in a huge house with corridors and passages which leads to an different rooms in different sections of the house. Each room has a manufactorer or an car-class: for instance, in one room are just bonus cars, in one are special cars, English cars, German cars, Classic Cars, in separate rooms are Mercedes, Ferrari, etc. You can walk from room to room, watch the cars an take them to a test-ride on a noice Test Track. Intresting is that you can test-drive any car, either you've obtain it or not, so, Enzo in one hell-of-the-ride:). Garage and Showroom are very nice modes, and it would be great to have them in GT:). Don't need to say that I've spent half of my playing time so far in Garage and Showroom:).

- driving is still PGR-ish arcading-n-sliding, but now the car feels more stable. So far I have the feeling that need for maniacal sliding is reduced, and that driving feels little bit more simulative. Still have to drive faster cars in races to got the real feeling.

- there are different game modes, and Kudos are still here. Now you get the extra Kudos for not damaging the car during the race.

Overall, I miss the "camera" view during racing (in PGR first you could drive a race form the perspective of the replay cameras) and option to make custom camera for the driving postion, but overall, PGS2 looks like a very good sequel. Still have to play it to make a final judgment, but I like what I saw till now - it is a very good arcade, maybe even the best one - and I can't wait to unlock all the cities.
