GT5 - better tyre's smoke !!

Nice tyre smoke, but I don't think they should be producing that much smoke from a start like that.

The car does produce a billionty torques and smacks it down via a set of mahoosive tyres so i would guess that if a driver did decided to go flat out on the throttle it would throw a hell of a lot up very quickly.

Sadly the pug drivers in real life misunderstood the fan requests to produce some smoke and went for the engines instead.

It's much more realistic than Prologue smoke. Now it really comes from wheel arches and there are tons of smoke when driver wants it - exactly like in reality. Dust clouds are more realistic too, they stay longer and get suspended into the air. It would be nice for them to be carried by turbulences made by other cars but I think this would be too much for PS3.

I agree.

They do look more realistic, but to me it doesn't look like they stay for longer. In Prologue the faster you were going when you drove over the grass, the larger the dust cloud and the longer it would stay there for (to an extent). In the demo, the whole dust cloud disappears quite quickly and I still think a small part of the dust cloud should be left over. Nevertheless, a great improvement which I'm happy to see. :)👍

I think this shows that the smoke isn't overdone in the recent videos!

After further investigation, it most certainly isn't over done.

Here's a celebrating 2009 Peugeot 908, showing exactly how much smoke it can make.

There is a 908 in there I promise. :P

Here's the video. Skip to 4.55.

I guess that's what warm racing slicks and gobs of Torque does for you.

Do you think the tire smoke will vary depending on the tyre, gear and rpm like in real life?

F1 tyres only produce smoke in the really high rpm´s but nothing when heating the tyres before a race for example..

Hopefully the smoke looks thicker.. I also hope there are more (different) sound bits for the tire Squealing (When drifting or sliding on corners), Its very annoying to hear.

^^
What they've said.
+but it doesn't stay long enough!
If it's just a quick lock under braking, than it's usually thin and disappears quickly, but if you're spinning the tires, it's usually thick and definitely lingers on, sometimes quite a long time(depending on tires, amount of burnout, air motion and air conditions etc.)...

Thats mainly what's bothering me about it. Even a short burst of smoke thinner that what we see in the video should dissapate far slower. It would drift off slowly and thin out and up, and the speed of dissapation would be affected by the wind/air flow conditions.

Yes the smoke looks a lot better than previously, thank god. But the timing issue still kills the realism for me a bit. Same with the dust/sand when slipping off track it disappears too quickly.

Agree there too, the sound was way too one dimensional sounding before too uniform. And although I've been to big on drfiting I can see how that would be annoying.

Here's also hoping they have done something about that.

+1 for thicker smoke.

there should be special 'photoshoot exhibition tyres' which have low traction and lots of smoke - specially made for getting those awesome shots in HD!

can't you guys hear from the video, the tyre sound is different from Prologue and the time trial, it sounds like the one used in the FT-86G trailer

Are we talking about smokes while drifting or smokes in a general way inside GT5?
Because right now i have 2 toughts about drifting and smoke:

Con:
The smoke effect have a small issue when mixed to another elements (car or scenary), and sometimes is just impossible to capture a good photo while drifting just because this issue.

Pro:
- The fat smoke push the cars to find that spot where the road is visible, and its the golden spot for tandems (the triangle between the angled car and the apex internal border).
- Too much, large and massive smoke? Well, maybe if you try a car with lower RPM and torque - im not even talking about HP rite now - perhaps the smoke will be less enormous.
- Like many people said, its better too much than so few. And i can count many games with good physics for drifting, but with lame smoke effect also.
- All this smoke and stills 60 FPS, isnt it nice?
