I was trying to find which tires are those...
But thanks to JIM1681 above...

i no longer doubt some of us that pointed out at the tires being in the wrong rotations...
and so now: yes i confirm it:

Tire Rack link to Yokohama

Therefore you should not be test driving this car... it's bound to crash and explode... >>> But WAY to Test the Damage functionality of this game LOL

I only know 'cause I used to run them :)

They're HELLA expensive, and they wear EXTREMELY fast. I think I put 10,000 miles on mine before they were completely bald. However, they're the closest you'll get to running a straight-up slick on the street.

PD and KY"oops."

Makes you wonder about that attention to detail :)

I suppose everyone has off days, but I mean, surely that model must have gone past a lot of people before having the shots released... I mean, it must actually be modelled in game with them the wrong way ?

So I do not know, would it realy make a difference on how the car would handle in real life?

Seriously? Drift is complete garbage! It is a discrace to motorsports to even concider drifting racing at all! It is a judged event just like monster trucks freestyle, it is up to a few people on the sidelines opinions who wins. That is not a race in my book! If PD makes drifting a big part of GT5 then I am afraid that the GT series has lost at least one future customer!

I'm not a big fan of drifting, but I respect it for what it is: people pushing their car to the edge. I dont really see it as racing either, for the same reasons you iterated. It still follows the same mentality though: do what your opponents do, but do it better. Isn't that the concept of all sports?

i have the same question ...
the worse is when the roads become wet... how would that translate in real life... anyone tried that configuration yet??

Furthermore:
THE QUALITY OF THE PHOTOS ARE ALMOST SURREAL !!
wow, very impressive... imagine this level of details for 900 cars! (less the duplications of miata, skylines, accords, celicas and evos) no wonder it took them so long to finish this game...

GT is still unequalled by any games in terms of car graphics and esthetic details...

The other funny thing i noticed is: ... with body work addition such as the rear aileron, (refer to the rear 3/4 view) @ the trunk attachment point: the wing bracket's shadow is missing ...;) but this is forgivable for now...

Anybody else notice the directional A048 tires on the Z are going the wrong way?

Any chance this being only a quickly rendered promo picture and not actually in-game? The background seems so uninspired.

So we agree, drifting is not racing. That Was my only point.

Most likely Not-IN-Game pictures... this level of detail is unnecessary during the races... but rest assured it will not be worse than what you see from GT5P ;)

The background is typical of GT series presentation... dont worry, they kept it simple so that they avoid revealing anything else to us... the informations and news are drop-fed ... until the big day in Spring 2010.

I do not see the Yokohama logos on the tires.. who says they have to go this or that way.. driving in dry it does not matter at all.

I don't remember anyone posting confirmation of this, but for everyone worried about the game being deleted from your hard drive after the 25th or something, no need to worry. Straight from the U.S. Playstation blog:

"You’ll have plenty of time to study Gran Turismo 5 and go for your best possible time, because the Gran Turismo 5 Time Trial Challenge will run through 5PM PST on January 25, 2010. After January 25 you won’t be able to download the game from PSN, but those who already have it will be able to continue to play it past the contest end date. Anyway, they are in the wrong way. That's something that should be fixed and it is somewhat embarrassing.

...but drifting IS driving... so it would be fit to be in the "Real Driving Simulator"

Ok you got me there. I will just hate it if I have to do any drifting to be able to see that 100% complete on my gamesave. I already said that if that is the case then GT5 is the last time PD will see any of my money!:grumpy:

I'm not worried, quite the contrary. I was aiming at the tires being the wrong way round so my guess was that it could be that an artists simply put this shots together for promo reason and thus them being falsely mounted doesn't mean they didn't get it right in the actual game.

But quite a detail to spot, obsessive, but in a good way.

I'm confused, exactly who ever said drifting was racing? Even the drivers themselves have said its not racing so I'm not sure where you heard that.

Thats good to know, so it backs up what me and Justin said earlier.

aside from that, one of us GTPlaneters, "JM1681", used to race with those tires.

Are you sure you dont want GT6???... we give you another chance here...
dont be sorry later ;) :p

To you and me maybe. But the rest of the general public that buys the game will probably never notice. Especially in-game when the car is driving around the track.

When i was spectating at a racing track the series of cars i saw in the pits about 25% of them had tyres fitted the wrong way around. I dont think it matters on a dry track and it may even have advantages in wear balance if swapped over during the life of the tyre, i don't know but i saw the racing cars like that. Unless of course they also made a mistake. And it was an amateur event.
But it does make sense that there will be different levels of wear on the leading edge and trailing edge, if they are rotated it will even it out to give a better running surface. Psychological difference probably.

Those tyres are directional so I wouldnt mount them backwards... theyve been designed in a way and wont perform 100% if mounted backwards.

The tyres i saw were directional too, would only work in the wet in one direction to channel water. In what physical way will the above tyres not work in the position they are fitted on a dry surface?

I don't think that's an excuse though. There are a lot of things the general public wouldn't notice. If PD only cared with what the general public do notice, GT wouldn't be what it is.

My monitor is too dark to see it without brightening the image but Fred noticed it post #160

I guess I'm the only one that noticed the tires are on backwards on that 370Z... Generally PD are anal about attention to detail.

For the record i noticed when there were only 3 posts on the home news page, but i gave PD the benefit of the doubt that reverse tyres are ok for track racing lol.

Do you guys think December the 17th was suppose to be GT5s release date before it got pushed back i assume by Sony till March and this GT Academy demo is sort of like a pay off for that to ease the pain for the delay.

GT isn't really what it is because of us or the general public. It is what it is because of Kaz. I for one see no problem with the tread being backwards. Just people being nit-picky.

And that the public isn't what makes GT what it is is exactly what I meant.

They made a mistake. Those small screw ups are expected when you're dealing with such a huge game. It doesn't mean it shouldn't be corrected though.

This is a quote about some bike tyres, but may also apply to car tyres on track and especially for a rwd car which the 370z happens to be...

"The main forces acting on a front tyre act in basically the opposite direction (braking) to those acting on a rear tyre (acceleration) therefore the primary tread grooves are arranged accordingly . By arranging the front pattern in this way the tyre gets much improved "even wear" characteristics, especiallly in high speed/circuit use. There is no deterioration in wet grip as a result, in fact , if anything, water drainage is improved."
