'Gran Turismo' creator talks and test drives latest model

Interesting information from this article may be the fact it says the game has 70 tracks and not the usual 20 locations and 60 variations. The tracks are also said to take on average, about one year to create, so they must of had many people working on it to get to about 70.

The game is at 90% so not far from being complete for the summer. Just hope that the 70 tracks is true and not misunderstood.

The thing that makes me think this game is going to be epic is that Yamauchi-san says that Gran Turismo 5 will be creating a new standard for the car racing genre much like the first Gran Turismo. I personally like him holding back the information until closer to launch as I trust in him that this game will have new cutting edge features. Online is meant to be huge in this game and with features such as a wind tunnel in the game, who knows how deep the tuning features will go. I can't wait until summer when I hope it will be released as that is when I break up from university. Hopefully by then the game will be fully polished up and not rushed.

Hi welcome to the fold.To answer your ?, i do hope so 20 locations plus 70 variations just doesn't seem that many.If PD count reverse tracks as 1, that just isn't right. Thanks for the link.

I have a sneaky suspicion that playing video games in 3d is going to get annoying real quick. The thing I noticed when watching Avatar in 3d is that the point of focus is fixed. This means that if you look where the camera intended you to look (usually the middle of the screen) then you get a 3d effect but if you try to look at something in the foreground or background, you can't focus on it cos it's all blurry.

This would mean that you wouldn't be able to look at the car passing you, cos it'd be out of focus, or look anywhere other than the road ahead. For driving sims I expect this will annoy the hell out of most players but for the likes of FPS's I reckon people will be having seizures.

I watched Avatar in an Imax theater and was not impressed with it at all. Everything but the center of the screen was blurred and after 20 minutes of my eyes trying to focus I had a headache. 3-D is not for me at all so I was glad to read "3-D version" because I for one will not be purchasing that.

Those checkered stripes make it look like an Aussie cop car.

ok? was there a need to post that? Not related to gt5 in any way.

This was already posted numerous times as well.

Stefan1904, great find!
I think these images are wonderful. Of course these are photomode pics but still great!
A very little thing. In the last one the left mirror should show the driver face, from that point of view. I think something must be fixed there.

these pictures are a few years old from what was said.

That Mini needs to replace the standard issue Vauxhall Astras, so that'll be BMW Cup Minis & Scoobies for plod.

The Minis arn't quite as big inside as the Astras, and the Cooper/Cooper S etc. are a little more expensive than the Astra they use :P And that would add up, considering they replace the cars quite often.

Though they should really use the Ford Focus... :sly:

Most or all of the GT "tuned" cars in Prologue had full interiors.

Im sure most of them had roll cages replacing the back seats-Evo's but then again I think the swift sport tuned had back seats:(. But the livery on the Mini looks unlike both the Mini challenge one and the livery more commonly used on GT tuned cars.

Just ran across this when surfing around:

Kaz is angry??!!...

Sorry if already posted, could not find it...

spy.
It is perfectly normal since they're perfectioninsts, it's their passion and Gran Turismo is a very importan exclusive.

KY:Every time, it?s the same for me. I am usually pretty frustrated when a version comes out. Right after the release, I think we should have done this or should have done that. A game release is not a very happy time for me. When a new title comes out, I look to the next one to fix it.

Pretty normal for any dev. Release is a tough time, there is always something you can improve on. No game is perfect, it's a very good thing. It shows they care, and that they can see the way forward for the project.

I don't think so.
They may be not brand new, probably they are from Tokyo TGS 2009.
In any event in one screenshot you can see, among other details, a missing door. It can't be that old.

How do those cars not have AA?? the quality of that AA is to the effect of about 16xMSAA, what more could you want?? The other cars employ a form of motion blur, is that what you mean? The actual game's photomode will ook better than these shots anyway, dont worry. Those shots were like 7 mega-pixels and KY has been quoted saying GT5 will have photomode taking 20 megapixel shots. God knows why though. Anyway, on a tv set with the proper viewing distance the jaggies, even in the GT demo, are almost non existant (for the cars anyway) very impressed with this graphically. This is pre-gamecon code anyway, the recently shown stuff has actually managed to look better than these pics.

I agree the latest (ingame) pics look much better, but you don't need to tell me about 16xMSAA and motion blur when the cars in focus look fugly and jagged like a PS2 game, while the other cars around look perfectly fine.

This game is never going to come out.

still no release date i'm now officialy worried

dont expect this game release

I think this is proof liveries and decal customisation is in
There are 2 different patterns on the FT-86g trailer, when the 2nd car comes in and does tandem drifting
.
one has the red and silver pattern, the other red and back on the rear 3/4...

OMG, here we go again.
Um, the black is an air vent.
People, stop putting your opinions and wishes down as FACTS!

Idk what red/black you're talking about, but one has red on the rear bumper and the other does not.

Your right, well spotted ;) 👍

This is just how I wanted it to be, to be able to customize body parts and liveries but not go too far with it.

EDIT: Forget the last part, just seen the real life picture. ;)

Actually, looking at it more, this could be one paint scheme with slightly different styles on the left and right sides of the same car.

With further looking: Yep.

Same car from my first pic, different angle.

I dont see any difference between the liveries. What should I be seeing here?

The black on he side, by the red vertical pattern, is an air vent. Not black paint.

No, that is the same car.

Look at the Gs logo just before the rear wheel well. It appears that because it is a long logo that it creates a different look based on which side of teh car you are viewing.

No, that is the same car.
Um, that's what I said.

And it was the point I was trying to make.
