I think it's a bit daft also. A £40 purchase turns into a purchase well over £1000. People who are interested in buying a 3D tv will do so I don't see how GT will change that decision for anyone.
 
I wonder how much extra time was spent creating a 3D version that nobody needs and I certainly don't want.:rolleyes:

They had 3D prologue over a year ago, it's not something that popped up suddenly.
 
I'm pretty sure Sony are going to use GT5 to promote 3D which is no bad thing as it will give it even more exposure. It's going to be a while before I upgrade to 3D and I'm really not convinced using 3D glasses is going to be very popular.
 
After seeing the Avatar movie and the electronics equipment manufacturers investment in this technology, I think the 3D trend is unstoppable now.

Also 3D is relatively easy to incorporate in animation. One year from now there will be lots of games with 3D option

As i know the 3D tecnology its only the apply of a filter.

I dont think im going to be sold on the whole 3d idea until they come out commercially with technology where you dont have to use 3dglasses
 
3D + head motion tracking... mind boggling greatness, most likely only with GT6.

It'll definitely come somehow. When I was in Japan last year there seemed to be a lot of momentum for 3D building. The 3D bandwagon is really picking up and my brother tells me they occasionally broadcast shorts in 3D on NHK in Japan, and it reminded me of a conversation we had about 13 years ago when he was first telling me about the HDTV shorts on NHK back then.

GT5 in 3D is the perfect showcase for Sony to introduce 3D and wow, and it's very believeable to hear that the game is being held back for such marketing purposes, even if I personally would like it sooner and for the moment at least, couldn't care less about 3D.
 
As I now have 6 TV's for 2 people, I don't see me getting a TV for quite a few years.

Maybe by then the PS4 (or 5), GT 7 (or 8) package will include a race helmet with the screen built into the lense with 3D vision, electroencephalography (EEG), 11:1 sound, etc., etc.......

Of course this is in the future and I don't see Sony pushing this untill they market such products.

For the current 3D with glasses, not for me.
I used (still have boxed away) Sega's 3D tech back in the day and it was OK, but wearing those glasses sucked, big time.

For me, (and many others) Sony has jumped the gun with the 3D tech.
It's too soon after this HDTV craze.
Another 5 to 10 years and then, OK, new technology.
People who can afford it will buy the newest technology, same as the person who needs the newest technology.

I watched Sony's (CES) press release and with all the 3D partnerships they revealed I think gaming in 3D is only a small percentage of the overall 3D experience they will be offering into the future.
Gaming is big business but I think Sony has a greater overall picture that they are considering.

Back to the OP and GT5, this 3D is wasted tech for me.
It's too early in the series for this and too early in the terms of TV tech.
If I need glasses for 3D in the future, I want it to be in the form of a helmet (as explained earlier) for the GT series.
 
Most people (I at least) will not buy a new 3D Tv just to play the game and watch a hand full of 3D movies that eventually come out this year...

That said, 3D included in GT5 and push the game closer to end of 2010, could be done (again) to serve Sony marketing purposes. Hey, most of us all have a PS3 by now, so why not push other hardware like a Sony 3D Tv?

Although they say "a 3D version", making the GT5 2D+3D would push for more Tv sales. Having it and not seeing it would make you "feel" the need to buy a 3D Tv much stronger. And look at "3D Tv available this summer":

I have a sneaky suspicion that playing video games in 3d is going to get annoying real quick. The thing I noticed when watching Avatar in 3d is that the point of focus is fixed. This means that if you look where the camera intended you to look (usually the middle of the screen) then you get a 3d effect but if you try to look at something in the foreground or background, you can't focus on it cos it's all blurry.

This would mean that you wouldn't be able to look at the car passing you, cos it'd be out of focus, or look anywhere other than the road ahead. For driving sims I expect this will annoy the hell out of most players but for the likes of FPS's I reckon people will be having seizures.
 
Remember that there is plenty of 3D technologies and some of them are not good. Polarization technology which some theaters have uses green and red filters on glasses. Better shutter technology uses lcd screens on glasses that get frequency reference from TV, and in theory resolution is same as with normal 2d. Resolution is halfend with polarization technology.

Motion tracking 3d is in my mind most interesting from near time gaming applications.(pseye can do this with any TV)

considering it's in Febuary.. I guess so. But depends how big the show is, you might just get the Tokyo R246 demo :lol:
 
'Gran Turismo' creator talks and test drives latest model

Interesting information from this article may be the fact it says the game has 70 tracks and not the usual 20 locations and 60 variations. The tracks are also said to take on average, about one year to create, so they must of had many people working on it to get to about 70.

The game is at 90% so not far from being complete for the summer. Just hope that the 70 tracks is true and not misunderstood.

The thing that makes me think this game is going to be epic is that Yamauchi-san says that Gran Turismo 5 will be creating a new standard for the car racing genre much like the first Gran Turismo. I personally like him holding back the information until closer to launch as I trust in him that this game will have new cutting edge features. Online is meant to be huge in this game and with features such as a wind tunnel in the game, who knows how deep the tuning features will go. I can't wait until summer when I hope it will be released as that is when I break up from university. Hopefully by then the game will be fully polished up and not rushed.

A very little thing. In the last one the left mirror should show the driver face, from that point of view. I think something must be fixed there.

no way, lol. i've been to the Toronto auto show every year and its always looked the same. It just never has the latest/top car models from a lot of the manufacturers. I doubt it'll have anything GT5 related. The Ferrari stand only has the F430 Scuderia, while the Lambo stand only has the Superleggera every time. There isn't even an independent stand for Lotus, because only a performance car rental stand has it on display. You get the idea. lol.

And I wouldn't expect the Mini's mirror to be 'fixed', it's far to processor intensive to start adding that level of reflected geometry.. It's good enough for me as it is.. superb lifelike colour palette and lighting..

It gives no indication of a livery editor what so ever.
 
That Mini doesn't look like your average Gran Turismo Tuned car. Its got to much chrome and vinyls on it. And the big number 32 is also unoriginal.

can anyone confirm if this Mini is a touring car of some sort? I can't think of anything else it could be.
 
^ As I have aready said it can't be a tuning car as it still has its back seats!
 
That 'livery' for the Mini is a upgrade vinyl kit you can buy from any BMW mini dealer, it was brought out for the mini challenge cup.
