It doesnt suprise me at all that GT5 has been delayed. From what we have seen so far it only looks like 30-40% of the game is done. We have only seen about 100 cars from the 1000 claimed to be included and lots of promised features have not even been seen yet. That and the original damage model was quite poor so they are going to have to overhaul that aswell.
I would rather they take all the time they need. I want them to do the best job possible and not get into this 'release now patch later' culture. I recon we will see it released near the end of 2010 maybe for the holiday season.
Robin.
Just because we haven't seen i doesn't mean it's not near complete. He has said a along he wants to "surprise" us.
Kaz said that they are currently working on many cars and setting them up right might take more time than they thought. Also if they are still making features in game, final bug hunting has not begun yet.
Maybe the 'manufacturer agreement' is just the use of Toyota's new brand, : G Sports. It's an agreement after all.
Maybe we got too hyped about this.
Hope I'm totally wrong though![]()
The didn't ever finished car modelling while they gived sounds a short shrift again and scenery modeling is still very basics. Even some eleven years old games did have some better details than GT has today.
Unless i'm mistaken that game was on PC. Also if you look, there are barely more than 2 trees on screen at any one time (I couldn't find info on WRC 2000, only 2001 and after :/ So i might be wrong, but i don't think it was on PS2 or any other console). In GT5 on the Nurburgring there could be 30+ trees on screen. They may still be 2D, but they are higher detail and higher resolution than the ones in that game (They have to be, running at 1080p). The fact the PS3 has a very limited supply of RAM also makes it problematic to have full 3D images of trees, any PC gamer knows high detail trees on a low spec machine causes epic lag, its something PD has done to keep the framerate down and allow for 16 car races.
But we shall see if PD include proper rally stages what they can do with the trees. We havn't seen a proper rally circuit ingame yet.
It's starting to look like that's all there is to see. A presentation was scheduled at 5 PM. It's almost 7 PM there now and we still haven't heard or seen anything. That leads me to believe it was nothing big at all.
The bolded part isn't exactly true now is it. We all know SpeedTree which has become extremely popular middleware this generation of consoles. And with good reason. It procedurally generates trees, plants, foliage, etc. in fantastic quality. The high resulotion textures currently used for trees in GT5 consume much more RAM than SpeedTree, which trades memory usage for processing power. I don't understand why they didn't use it. In fact, every game with trees or foliage should use SpeedTree.
It was probably meant to be big at the time Kaz gave the interview, with big reveals planned. The delay probably threw a spanner into the works, and made PD re-think it.
Well... i'm man enough to admit when i'm wrong, fair enough
The graphics engine would need a complete overhaul to implement it now though. Maybe this is what caused the delayMeh
Im 100% sure the game is done , it's just Sony marketing guys we have to blame:tdown:
