You can only guess so far, i will never say "i know" when i dont know.
And please, stop these stupid comments like in your last sentence.

Guessing is stupid, so stop guessing.

@torontoml- Why did I bring up a discussable point about GT5 in the GT5 general discussion thread? Good question :dunce:

But this has been discussed to death many times before, just because it was the USA Today that makes it an entirely new thing?

Yes and no. USA Today is a little bigger than GTPlanet, VG247, and MotorTrend.

And nobody said it was entirely new, just interesting. Also, it doesn't cite 70 variations, so that is new (just not entirely).

I think the ego driven chest beating is getting to be a bit much. However dave, insisting that the source of the 70 track figure is the intranets, when they had The Man there for an interview is really presumptive, to say the least. Just let it go.

Anyway, I want to ponder just how GT5 will be as genre defining as GT1. Is it in a wealth of real world motorsports elements, such as racing leagues like WRC and NASCAR, and racing calendars within those leagues?

Will it be with a big online structure loaded with race, club and league building tools?

Will it be with user created content such as lots of Photo Mode and Movie Maker tools? Race mod and a livery editor, as well as a track editor?

Will it be realistic 3D trees with reverse lights, horns and wipers leaving skidmarks?

Will it be all the above? Minus the lol, of course...

It's hard to say, PD has always found away to introduce something totally new to the racing genre.
GT: Obviously the game itself was genre breaking.
GT2: More cars than any other video game before it.
GT3: F1 cars in a non-F1 game.
GT4: Photomode
GT5: ??? Although from what we've seen so far they could be behind on features for the first time.

GT5=possible 3D

Anyways, the TAS is basically almost over, and nothing new. Sweet

I know the release date got pushed back, but what happened to the 'manufacturer agreements' we were promised?

last day is tomorrow.and next week detroit show

The official program thingy, which is in Japanese, obviously ! , has GT5 with an Exclamation mark for Sunday, none of the other GT5 slots have an "!"

Clutching at straws here !

4 weeks from the Daytona 500 also. GT5 has to get some attention on the 15,000+ hours of media coverage for this race. I'll be watching all the garbage speed weeks and all that CRAP for hopes of GT5 news.

I think we interpreted the manufacturer agreements wrong, that GPS track thing between Toyota and PD is an agreement between the manufacturer and PD.

Oh and its like 5 am in Japan.

on the genre defining aspect, i feel that this will lie in gt5 online mode, i think that perhaps they're aiming to mirror real life in terms of championships, well im not sure how to explain. perhaps all the races/tournaments you get in the gt mode will be available as online races as well? so you earn online trophies/wins. perhaps it will be extensive in terms of rankings ala call of duty, or like how you upgrade weapons. i.e win certain amount of races on the ring to earn a certain racing badge.

also i think its clear that racing clubs will have a big future. perhaps there be divisions as well? so you can get promoted/relegated - this could be a way of matcmaking

this is a big call as gt5p online mode, is well, just a few events. but games often are good at not revealing there online modes, well often tillt he game releases.

Sounds spot on to me, KY did say along time ago that because the way people play games has changed over the years, people have less time to dedicate to a particular game, which could possibly mean the end of GT mode? I hope not, but maybe a more plausable solution would be to have the online side integrated into GT mode, maybe bigger cash prizes for winning races online? Who knows, no one, come on Sony, pull your finger out..........., we aren't getting any younger you know !

The DENSO GPS was the big manufacturer announcement that Kaz was referring to. That's my take on it.

Both posts make a lot of sense. I've played through MW2 offline campaign once but have played many more hours of it online. I really hope the online aspect of GT5 is the main part of the game and includes player progression in a similar way to other great online games and is not just a load of single races. How amazing would it be for us all to be in a GTPlanet clan, have our own tournaments and avoid racing with a load of morons who crash into you if you make an overtake?

I certainly don't want to lose GT Mode or for it to be dumbed down but it would be great if it was integrated with the online side of the game.

Never really thought of it like that, I only played MW2 online, nere even started the campaign!

I can't say for sure if it would be the same with a racing game with the right online functionality, I still think I'd like the GT Mode to play through aside from whatever online modes there are.

PS, have you guy's seen the new pictures on the front page? Amazing !

You can' really compare MW2 and GT5.
In MW2, online is the main part of the game, it is the selling point, it's the reason to get the game. With GT series, it's GT mode. I haven't played GT online so I can't comment whether it's good or not but it's not a selling point for me. At least not from what I've experienced with forza 3 online.

Yeah, I have a FPS that is online only, and I don't think I would ever really play the campaign (I might actually now that I've gotten good just to wreck everyone) but I like it more than I would a campaign. More diverse playing against people online, and more of a challenge. Granted, GT5 online I'll get worked up on because I'm not that fast, but it's still fun.

GT is something that I mostly enjoy offline by myself, but if GT5 has things like drift competitions, track days, and drag races I would be online a lot more often. And would most likely just compete against friends

The screens themselves are old, but the high res versions are new

KY-The entire game design and you might be able to say the functionality of the game. I think it would be expressed better if you just say the entire game design.

USA Today-How are you doing this and is this to allow players to go deeper into the car driving experience?

KY- I think the background behind it is the advancements in technology.

Me- Thus, online racing. Racing AI will not cut it these days, just like shooting AI won't cut it. GT is not about GT mode anymore, it is about competing on a world class level, with world class drivers. Those that get left behind are missing out on something great. GT5P inspires me to no end, and that is because of one reason; Competition.
(I find it ironic dave says you can't compare GT to MWII, but he compares GT5 to Forza 3 )

Yeah, but before games were online, they were all about campaigns offline, things have changed since GT4 came out.

I'm not sure if I liked the way KY was talking about this all that time ago, the main reason is that GT Mode was so addictive, for why I am not sure, I would certainly miss it big time, guess we'll just have to wait and see what he really meant.

GT mode may not be your focus anymore but that isnt the case for everyone, i couldnt give a stuff about online and would be perfectly happy if they cut it all to have more room on the disc for some more media. GT mode is GT for me.

There is no competition in gt5p online the standard of driving is far far worse then the AI's.

I dont see the irony in comparing gt to forza, they are both racing games. mw2 is a fps catered to a entirely different market.

What's ironic about it? Both are driving games with online components. Forza online racing is so bad, idiots ramming you off the road to win, that people only use online to sell livery and tunes. I haven't played gt5p so don't know how it works. Hence my previous comment.

You are in the wrong place. Do you race Pro, or standard physics?

Online racing is the majority of GT5P. Granted it is not a full game, but thats all I have to go off. Before I got a G25, I played MW sometimes, never online (no broadband back then), but it was fun and engaging offline.

what would be great or even fantastic right now is for PD to release a full official car list and track list. Come on PD, don't be shy you have nothing to hide.

GT5:P is just as bad. We have numerous threads here complaining about these idiots.

Try and get behind them, and do a p.i.t maneuver on them ;)
