It doesnt suprise me at all that GT5 has been delayed. From what we have seen so far it only looks like 30-40% of the game is done. We have only seen about 100 cars from the 1000 claimed to be included and lots of promised features have not even been seen yet. That and the original damage model was quite poor so they are going to have to overhaul that aswell.
Yes, but we know that at least 800 some odd cars are finished, because the simplified models exist in GT PSP, as well as about 35 race locations. I'm thinking that you're partly right though, that Kazunori has lobbied for and got more time to work on features, which in a way is a win/lose/win situation.
- Other blockbuster PS3 games won't be overshadowed, such as Heavy Rain, Uncharted 2, Ratchet & Clank ACIT, God of War and FF XIII, as well as lesser but still very cool games like White Knight Chronicles. And frankly, I want to enjoy a few of these myself, which I wouldn't be doing if GT5 was out.
- The exasperating wait continues...
- However, delaying GT5 to as late as fall, which is now possible, doesn't just mean more polish, but more features and content. And little or no patches, as patching a game isn't always as reliable as coding software right to start with: sometimes patches need
patches. And think of what many of us have been asking for.
- Race mod with a selection of body kits.
- Livery editor.
- Good damage modeling, both mechanical and visual.
- Dynamic weather and time transitions, at least on endurance races. At the very least, different times of day and weather when returning to tracks.
- Polished, lifelike physics.
- Cars, cars and more cars. Perhaps even the Ariel Atom, and, dare I say it, Porsche.
- Tracks, tracks and more tracks, such as Bathurst, Virginia and Hockenheim.
- A robust, feature rich online system including online clubs and leagues, with league race building tools. And with any kind of proper leagues comes the need of a livery editor...
- The track editor keeps being mentioned, which with Kazunori's requirement that everything in GT be cool, should be a very nice addition.
- Lifelike touches such as skidmarks, reverse lights, wipers, horn...
And so on. Fall isn't
that far off, and summer is even closer. Like Robin says in his post, if a delay nets us some goodies like this, especially the ability to create my own race cars, I'll wait gladly.
The bolded part isn't exactly true now is it. We all know SpeedTree which has become extremely popular middleware this generation of consoles. And with good reason. It procedurally generates trees, plants, foliage, etc. in fantastic quality.
Well, except the only games I'm aware of which use SpeedTree are first person shooters, RPGs and war games, where you aren't screaming along at more than 20 mph. Forza 3 doesn't use it either, so it may actually clutter up a racing environment with objects which don't work well with high speed movement.
Besides, Tokyo looks way better than any racing game you care to mention, so can you guys forget about freaking
trees already??
