Its just my opinion, but I really dont understand the amount of people who would voluntarily skip a race series in GT5. I guess I dont understand because as a motorsport enthusiast I want to sample everything I can. Rally isnt a strong sector for me but I absolutely love the challenge it provides me. And to plain dismiss a whole chunk of GT and still get 100% is just silly. Sorry. You cant be the ultimate driver, (wishing on that platinum trophy title), not having conquered all race types! Right!?

I'm not sure about the ovals, it'll be intense racing, (like mission 34 really) but one wrong move and it's into the wall and the whole race is over..

I've never driven oval specific racers, and I happen to think the intensity will be the hook factor for me. Rarely do cars exceed 200mph... not even in f1! So yeah, if I made a mistake, I'd probably expect to be putting it in the bin!

How do you distinguish fact from opinion? If I said the games was going to be very good is that a fact or my opinion? And if I said it was gonna suck than what is this?

it's your opinion because you haven't played it. So you're saying that it's going to be good based on your knowledge on the game. Shift looked like a mad game too but that turned out to be a lemon. :)

If you had played the full version of the game then you saying "the game will be good" is fact, while you haven't played it it's just simply opinion.

Both are opinions, but stated as a fact. I think he means that You are free to post Your opinions as much as You want regardless of optimism/scepticism, You just have to point out that this is Your opinion, not fact (as of yet until the game is released). :)

Easily. Fact doesn't change with opinion. If it's subjective it's opinion, if it's objective it's fact.

Opinion. You're rating a game - albeit putatively - which depends entirely on personal preference. Subjective = opinion.

See above.

If you say the game will have 936 cars, that's information presented factually. If you say the game won't have damage, that's information presented factually. If you say the game isn't finished yet, that's information presented factually. If you say the game will blow giant, fat monkey chunks and Burnout Paradise is the best, most realistic driving simulation of all time, that's opinion.

In the case of the first three, you'll be needing some evidence to show that what's occurring in your head is also occurring in reality. In the case of the last one, you don't.


Surely this can't be so difficult it requires explanation?

Actually both of those examples are opinions. Saying a game is "good" whether you've played it or not is an opinion. If you haven't played it it's a speculative opinion and if you have it's an informed opinion.

Facts would be things like whether a specific car/track was present or if a menu option was available.

Well I just can't get into Nascar, I even went to a race with friends but still didn't enjoy it. It didn't really have to do with the oval, because I enjoyed other races that occured there that weekend, just not the Nascar one.

I haven't watched much IRL but they do quite a bit of racing on road courses, so I've enjoyed the ones I've watched on TV.

What about the Ferrari Enzo? I though we had only seen it in GTPSP so this was the first time it was shown in GT5 albeit very briefly.
 
Does anybody know, from what year will the F1 and IRL cars be?

And if you could choose, from what year would you prefer?

Maybe my bad then. I thougth that at 3.33 the bonnet was shown of the Toyota.

It's a bit hard to see actually.

The video that ignited the discussion is from 9th of january, that's long after they went back to "fix" the damage.

So R1600Turbo has not seen the final damage model, but reckons that the one in the video (from 9-01-10) is old. We have no proof the final will be different (regarding scratches). After you all very thoroughly described what speculation is I come to the conclusion he is speculating. I say the new one will be the same, he says it will not. But in the end I am the one speculating.

Note where it doesn't say "snoopybg", but does say "anyone"?

Please drop the persecution complex. It's unnecessary. Especially as the purpose of my post was to bring a halt to the bad habit of my-opinion-is-fact posting prevalent in the thread to that point.

To snoopybg, a guide to admitting when you are wrong.

1) If, as Famine says, you post something as fact when it is opinion and/or speculation, if somebody disagrees with you, show them a source to back up your argument.

2) If another user posts something as fact when you believe it to be their opinion and/or speculation, politely ask them for a source for their information.

3) Do not flame said user or claim they are wrong unless you have evidence that proves the contrary. Refer to step two, if you're going to call bull:censored:, then do so in a constructive manner.

Now i need to give myself a good kick up the backside, because i am admitting i was wrong. I made a post saying that the damage model was not completed based on a source i saw on this website (That i didn't show). You disagreed with me and R1600Turbo, and you are getting flamed for it because you did not do so in a constructive manner, you just claimed that you were correct full stop.

So i apologise for not showing my source. So after trawling through old news entries i found this:

That was after the damage was first shown at TGS (At least i think it was TGS, it was round that time anyway). I think it was the same build we saw in the video a few pages back.

Now can you accept you are wrong?
