I think we can be lucky by adding in custom tracks. Is it possible to upload the tracks online and download them from other people ? I think we could be seeing some damn good Spa and Silverstone look-a-likes.

Not sure if old, GT Academy is coming to North America

FOSTER CITY, Calif., Nov. 16, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony Computer Entertainment America LLC (SCEA) and Polyphony Digital Inc., in collaboration with Nissan North America, announced today the opportunity of a lifetime for gaming and racing enthusiasts -- the debut of the GT Academy in the U.S. Starting December 20th, fans can compete in Gran Turismo® 5 exclusively on the PlayStation®3 (PS3™) for a chance to make dreams of becoming a race driver with a professional team a reality. Registration for the GT Academy competition begins on December 6th, and fans who think they have what it takes can find more information about the program at: http://us.gran-turismo.com/.

GT Academy will challenge gamers and racing fans alike across the U.S. to compete in a series of online time trials in pre-selected Nissan vehicles in Gran Turismo 5. All participants will earn free digital content just for playing, as well as have an opportunity to win prizes for winning regional time trials. The top 32 virtual racers in the country will be invited to compete in the live national finals event in March 2011 to become one of 16 GT Academy finalists. The 16 finalists will compete against each other in a series of challenges, including behind the wheel of real Nissan race cars, for a chance to become a professional race car driver as the GT Academy winner for the U.S. The winner will have the opportunity to train with elite race car drivers at international tracks and race as part of a professional team.

Available only on PS3 on November 24, 2010, Gran Turismo 5 features realistic driving physics and graphics that set new standards in the Gran Turismo franchise. Gran Turismo 5 will deliver the most realistic and comprehensive racing experience available, including more than 1,000 licensed cars, a Course Maker, and a robust online racing community. Additionally, Gran Turismo 5 integrates stereoscopic 3D technology, bringing a new layer of realism to racing fans.

"With the upcoming launch of Gran Turismo 5, it's a very exciting time to team with Nissan to announce GT Academy," said Scott A. Steinberg, VP of Product Marketing, SCEA. "With the realistic racing experience that only Gran Turismo 5 provides, GT Academy will identify someone who truly has the skills to become a pro race car driver, providing the chance of a lifetime to win the ultimate prize."

"This is a great opportunity for Nissan to bring GT Academy to the U.S. and support the launch of Gran Turismo 5" said Jon Brancheau, Vice President Marketing, Nissan. "Gran Turismo 5 provides an amazingly realistic racing experience and we're taking that to the next level by putting 16 finalists behind the wheel of a Nissan race car with the chance to become a race driver with a professional team. Nissan vehicles are known for innovation and performance, so this is a perfect way to demonstrate and deliver on that promise."

The competitors' road to victory will be documented in a multi-episode reality show airing exclusively on SPEED channel and the PlayStation®Network in 2011. The reality show series will start filming in March 2011 from the GT Academy finals through training as a pro race driver.

The overall competition will run as follows:

Phase One

Racing enthusiasts will put their racing and gaming skills to the test as they compete in various regional online ladders playing Gran Turismo 5 on PlayStation®Network. Finalists will then participate in a live head-to-head competition.

Phase Two

16 lucky finalists emerge from the live event and go behind the wheel of real cars, including the Nissan 370Z and GT-R, at a comprehensive GT Academy 'boot camp'. The 'boot camp' will be featured as part of a multi-episode reality show to air on SPEED.

Phase Three

The 2011 U.S. Winner will train to become a professional driver in preparation for competing as part of a professional team at a major race event.

Lurking on these forums for the past couple of days has really bummed me out.

Negative, negative, negative!

I'm actualy starting to believe that 99.9999997% of these comments are from Diddy Kong Racing purists.

Should the review copies be out now?

Possibly, doesnt matter though, with a game getting this much backlash I wouldnt be surprised at all if there was an embargo on them, holding the reviews off til release day.

The issue is when publishers think there might be some negative reviews they wont allow the reviews to be published early due to the fact that negative reviews do impact sales. So they hold it back so they can at least get some more impulse buyers before the reviews start coming out, otherwise if those people knew the game wasnt up to snuff they may not buy it.

The typical ignorance of a fanboy. Simply hilarious.

You should read his "why starcraft 2 should be on the 360" article, especially the "360 is the most graphics machine on the planet".

True, but, I think the reason might be because of the online modes/features. I think they're not opening up the servers and whatnot 'til release date or sometime next week, unless they open up a few just for reviewers or something. This is just pure speculation by me though.

He also has a "why gt5 should be on 360" article :dunce:

lol that post made me realize that every racing game has something unique to offer and its like its all compacted in GT5

Very true as well. Tough to review a game when you cant actually check all of the features, although ive seen some reviewers do it for big games anyway even if the online portion wasnt "turned on".

Hello guys! I have one question, in amazon.uk, the GT5's collector's edition comes with a dynamic theme, but, in amazon.com, that dynamic theme isn't there... Does the CE really come with an official dynamic theme or not? :indiff:

"How can it be that PCs, which have to be upgraded all the time just to compete with Xbox’s superior grafix, can claim to have better looking games?"

What is he, 12?

Not sure if old, GT Academy is coming to North America.

GTPlanet is probably the only place that this news is old. I brought it back from GT Academy 2010 at Silverstone and no other site picked it up

Good to hear it confirmed though 👍

What I said about the embargo isnt always just because a publisher doesnt think their game will get all positive reviews. I know sometimes they do that to help feed into the hype, keep people looking for information. They like release day to be an event, so even if there is a review embargo on this game, that doesnt necessarily mean they think it will get some bad reviews, Im just saying that is a possibility.

They are most certainly aware of the negative feedback it's getting. Every day there's at least 5 articles on N4G complaining about the game, and that stuff does find its way back to the people that made the game.

I wonder how common the CE/Signature redeem codes will be on places like ebay and amazon?

Can't exactly afford the Signature edition, but i'm willing to offer games for a code.

Yeah, that's true too. Would be cool if reviewers who are able to do reviews early enough could make a 2-part review for games who have robust online features. At least if they can't actually review the online component in time for an early review.

I know some sites did 2-part reviews with Halo: Reach because of it's massive online feature-set. GT5's online modes may not be as big as Halo's (or maybe it is since I haven't played it yet), but I think 2-part reviews would be great in these types of situations.

I love how they point out tiny tidbits of about 4 different games to address what GT5 has all-inclusively. :dunce:

how can you compare a game like GT5 to Most Wanted or Split Second ??
yeah maybe some features can be inserted sometimes ago but...

O.T. i love your avatar =P

I heard a rumour these days that we'll not be able to choose different Wheels on standart cars.
Anyone know something about this or am I just missinformed?

Well, I just spoiled myself with the pictures of the dudes in the racing suits. That's it, I'm not visiting this website till release day. I've held myself back from seeing everything from the intro to the car wash to the tuning screens and I'll keep on holding myself back! lol
