Sorry if this has been posted before, but has anyone found out yet if they need to be a higher level to mod the gear ratios?

Question: About rollovers........... can you roll over the AI :sly: (but Im serious )

I have no idea how that is even remotely possible. Every AI car that I've encountered and hit doesn't even budge, like hitting a brick wall. I'm convinced they are dump trucks in a car costume.

I once had an AI car bump the curb and flipped onto two wheels around the corner, at that moment I forgot about driving and tried to give him a wee nudge, you know to just help him on his way... but just skimmed him and the AI car landed back on its wheels... bummer. just keep an eye out dude haha

What good are all those cars if you can only race against 7 of them at a time?

So what sense makes 16 cars if you see only 6 of them in front of you? You start on pos. 7 in every race and the rest can´t pass you (because there is no PP system :ouch:) because they are to dumb...

We are in 2010, why the hell is there no qualifying? Look at F12010, how fun the qualifying is, even though the qualifying times of the opponents are predefined :ouch:

Those where not criticisms, they were half as*** comparisons.

It's like saying the Prius is better than a 458 because it can carry more passengers and has better mileage.

Well to the mother of 4 with groceries the Prius IS better than the 458. You guys really need to open your minds. It's all about points of view and enjoyment. Being a fan boy of ANY game is a waste. I have as much fun with GT5 as I have with Forza. So while some were wasting time plugging away at Prologue (which happens to have completely different physics than GT5 and was incomplete as all hell) I was having the time of my life with a complete game and now having fun with another game GT5 ( I don't know if I want to call this complete though as I'm positive they have some much needed goodies coming down the pipe in patches)

GT5 has greatness written all over it if they can address some issues. It's great to have comparisons because comparisons breed competition and competition is better for everyone. The reason why I loathe fanboys is because they are enablers. They give the devs the reason to do less. "Sir company B is doing X,Y and Z with their competing product" , Headguy: "Hey I haven't heard any complaints from our core customers. If our core likes it why change it". Probably the same conversation they have every year at EA in regards to Madden.

However TRUE fans of a game appreciate their game for the enjoyment it gives them and criticizes and raises hell when the game comes up short. True fans make games progress, demanding more from those who produce the game they love and recognize, appreciate and acknowledge when a rival game does something better and demands of it in their own product if not getting the other product and enjoying that while waiting for their product to come up to snuff.

Beyond that true fans of a GENRE appreciate ANY game that gives them the best opportunity for the fun they are looking for. They can easily switch from game to game looking for the unique experience that each game gives them at that moment and appreciate it when they get it. And if a game doesn't live up to the hype they can easily cast it aside as it's not bringing them what they want. No allegiance but to their own happiness.

I think you all know what category I fall in. Now excuse me while I find a video on getting gold on that Benz School Intermediate 1 Lap Challenge. I better get something nice for getting all gold too. :grumpy:

Am trying to find a truck for the sports truck race but there isn't any in the dealership and whenever I try the used cars there is none there also.
Have i got to do something to unlock them in the dealership first?

You get a truck you can use for finishing one of the license tests cant remember which one and im not sure if you get always get the same prize but thats how i got mine.

Still, consider buying one of the other trucks in the used lot. If you're into B-spec, I can tell you Bob has severe difficulty winning the truck races in the Dodge, unless it's been upgraded to the hilt.

Yeah I agree the lack of qualifying is silly, but I stand firm by my belief that Forza's 8 car fields are a game killer. Why? Because no major circuit racing series have such tiny fields in real life. You literally feel alone on track. In Forza I never feel like a real race is going on. In GT I do because theres cars flying around everywhere. And what about Online Play. An 8 car online race has all of these same issues, only its 10x worse. No sense running a league on Forza, the whole field gets spread out in a lap or 2. Your doing time trials at that point. On GT the online races feel vibrant and full because theres tons of drivers vying for position. THAT, my friend, is racing.

The numbers are indeed important, and I agree with you that they really make the race. But qualifying is a massive part of having a satisfying race. If you are forced to start in the middle, you have to make sure that either your car or your skills are good enough to overtake all the other cars in the (usually low) amount of laps given. If you're qualifying, you can grab pole by a whisker, and then spend the whole race a tenth of a second ahead of your competition. Now that's exciting!

In the end, you need a field of a reasonable size AND qualifying to make for a close race. One or the other just doesn't cut it.

Admittedly, I'd like to see some incentive for using a car of a more competitive level in some races. Even A-Spec points were better than nothing in GT4. The only races so far that I've been forced to use a car that was even moderately comparable to the competition have been the NASCAR races, and the AI there is so awful as to make the close racing not fun at all.

In a way there is qualifying, you must set fastest starts first in free run but still we should have option for official quialifying.

Anybody having issues connecting to GT servers? Having issues connecting tonight.

Yes.... can't even get the game to boot up if my PS3's connected to the internet. Pull the ethernet plug and it boots right up.

Damned annoying.

Man, I just got my feelings hurt. I just raced the Nurburgring Nordschleife that's listed under the Gran Turismo All Stars Championship with my 458 Italia and I came in 8th place. 39 seconds behind 1st place. 1st had a time of 6:30.428 :indiff::(

EDIT: Tried it with tuned ZR1. I can keep up now, just can't control the car around those turns. I might have to RM the car soon.
#2: Finally was able to finish the race. Came in 4th. 26 seconds behind 1st. Damn race cars are like tanks. They don't leave the track, and if they hit you, you're going for a ride.

Yea Ive looked at this race a few times, wanting to do it, aching to do it. But the cars the opponents use are quite scary. Im hoping to have the Zonda R before I give this a shot. I know technically its a road car. But its also one of my face cars ever. I hope to not be blown away with it

That Zonda R may be good enough to handle that track. You seen the cars that you race on there? I think they range from 789hp to 939hp. Finishing the race in 6:30 and stuff. My fastest was 6:56 in the ZR1 and it has like 869hp to it.

Lol yea. All the crazy Le Mans prototypes.

Use maximum downforce, lower the car to 1/2 the default, tune gearbox to ~330Km/Hr and use soft racing tires. I haven't tried with the Zonda but won with the Mazda Furai concept car. Good luck.

If you think it's just those, then you're in for a surprise. Every time I play, I get those older models racing with me. On top of that, I see Skylines in the race.:dunce:

Car won't lower anymore. I'm just gonna Race Modify my ZR1. I hope that 350,000 is worth it.

What is with this 50 or so recommended car limitation on on-line?

Why can't I use any of the other cars, why does arcade mode split-screen have more car variety?

What if I want a fair race where everyone has the same stock default car that isn't in the recommended list?

Have I missed something? Sure racing and comparing tuned cars on-line is fun n all, but this seems SEVERELY gimped for arcade racing fun on-line. What surprises me is that they even went to the trouble of adding a feature where you limit which car/cars everyone can choose from. Yeah... that's great n all, but it only works on the tiny recommended car list! This great regulation setting is only good at whittling down the already whittled down list!!

I'm bored of these "recommended" cars already. There's like 1 ferrari???! The Mercedes SLS, Ferrari F40 and that one Lamborghini Gallardo get boring after a while. Too many of the default 50 or so cars are not what you would call high end exotic sports cars. Does Project Gotham THREE seriously have more car selection options than Gran Turismo 5 Online by default?

Don't get me wrong, I think GT5 is fantastic, I think it blows away the competition for physics, graphics, car selection, quality of modelling, lighting, driving feel, soul, polish. I have virtually no problems with it, some of the nit picking I read makes me shake my head.

I just can't get over this one gaping hole, to the point where I'm assuming I'm doing something wrong.... someone please correct me, tell me I'm mistaken.

Some of you might be wondering "What is his problem - you can use anything you have in career" Yes I get this. But like I say, racing and comparing tuned career cars is a different animal. Sometimes you just want to host and say "lets all use a variety of stock lambo's, or lets all use the Ferrari 458's. Used to do this all the time in Project Gotham Racing - it was an absolute blast. I don't know about you, but one of my favourite career mode races are the ones where everyone is in a variety of one brand of car.

I'm not kidding when I say that before GT5's release I would have assumed 80% of my on-line time would be racing the default stock cars, and maybe 20% tuned cars.

I just don't see any reason why Polyphony have done this - ESPECIALLY when they included the car selection LIMITING option. It's like they had the full car list, but then took it out last minute.

Apart from using the (mostly tuned) career mode cars, this puts there on-line car selection count POSSIBLY lower than ALL their rivals???

This is a maddening flaw, and I just don't get it. I hope I've completely missed something. GT is supposed to be about the variety and amount of cars, not this arbitrary limit.

You need to mark your fave cars in your garage as "Favorites" Then you can use those ones online. GT is putting more emphasis on using your own, personally tuned cars to beat others online.

You can always favorite cars for a personal list of cars for online. But of course it's just luck whether anyone else has them favorited at that time. You can always request they do though.

So first online session last night, took part in a free run, Nordsheife, time change...

... Interesting ...

... anybody else think that additional spotlights should be available from GTAuto?

Look what FM3 players get in 2 weeks... I bet we´ll get an DLC with 9 japanese and 1 other car after 1 year... Sorry, still dissapointed with the cars in GT5...

Ok not the best cars but FM3 got nearly every important (for me) car...

Do they have honda city turbo II or Volvo Estate ? :P

So i play more GT5 more (earlier GT4) than Forza 3

I did what I could from what you said, I got 2nd. Lost by 3 seconds. This time my top speed wasn't high enough and I got passed by the R8 Race Car like I was standing still. If I can up my top speed while keeping that quick gear shift, I should be able to win. I wish I could post a video to show it. Oh, I forgot, I upped my brake power to 10. That helped too, lol.

Racing tuned cars is fun on-line but it varies too much, they are all over the place in terms of the amount of tuning done, performance and what cars people have, it's rarely a fair race, fun yes - a great alternative, but not fair/even.

My point is that the variety of on-line racing is out the window unless we use stock cars.... so if i want to set up as a host with the following limits....

race 1 - everyone in a 458
race 2 - everyone in viper
race 3 - everyone in a f430
race 4 - everyone picking a random car around 500 bhp
race 5 - everyone pick a ferrari of any kind
race 6 - everyone pick a super GT type car
race 7 - everyone pick a Le-Mans type car.

...this is all completely out the window!

It's the 50 default cars - which are all quite different.
OR
it's a wing a prayer and a bunch of misfitted, tuned cars - ie an un-organised mess.

Never mind that a lot of people seem to have no favourites.

Never mind that , like I said - they even have the limiting options in there. I can go in and limit it to only rally cars.... BUT... I'm limited to the ones in the 50 default recommended set.

It's ludicrous.

I don't know how anyone who has played much online racing before hasn't done races like those above at least some of the time, and to be honest in my experience this is MOST of the time.

Back in PGR people would always mix up what people could chose from - that was the whole point of the server having a "host" who picks options. Does iRacing have a random crap-shoot of cars in each race or is it all generally about the skill of the driver? (I've never played iRacing).

Again, I'm from a motogp/project gotham racing background, and the tuned stuff online is a welcome addition, but where are the basics??

Where is "arcade mode" online? I'm a mystified about this.
