It hasn't been for months. There were too many stickies (at one point there were about 10 I think), so they replaced them all with one sticky which refers to the most important threads

Months? This thread started years ago :p

The reasons why some say it's "off topic" is because this thread is for both GT5 news AND discussion. The "discussion" part is why topics of chatter are so random. We need a specific thread for GT5 news. Then again, we do have the News page here at GTPlanet.

Gran Turismo 5 Academy Edition

Release on September 26th

with:

Complete Pack (Car Pack, Course Pack, Special Paint Pack, Racing Gear Pack)
Car Pack 2
Car Pack 3 and Course Pack 2
The Nissan GTR driven in this year’s Nurburgring 24 hour race by series creator Kazunori Yamauchi.

Wow, actual news. Not of much interest to current players though except that means we'll probably get the 'oh my, that's completely different from last years car' Nissan GT-R from the ring in a free update soon.

Why PD? Why? The last point should at least be a title update or free DLC. It hasn't even been released yet. I also dread to think about the rage some people may have. Most people bought GT5 on release for 40 Pounds. Now PD are saying they are going charge 19 pounds for everything, DLC, base game, the lot. I guess it raises a question, was it worth buying GT5 on release for 40 Pounds, or was it worth waiting two years to buy the game for 19 pounds and get all DLC and the game?

That is the same for most games with DLC nowadays, most people know it will happen.

Not just games with DLC, any game will end up in the bargain bin after two years (some after three months already ).

Like anything in this world, value depreciates and price goes down. Sony is probably attempting to make a little more money [in addition to the fan base who bought it on release] off new gamers. Don't worry I agree. Just wanted to add that.

It's a tricky one, but, on balance, given the age of the game, the high price of "entry" and the relatively high price of DLC, I'd say it's a good idea to let new players have the lot for a lower fee. I don't feel cheated, since I've been enjoying the game from the start, and any subsequent DLC still costs the normal amount. (Which is sort of the point from a profit point of view, including the DLC with the game "for free" acts as incentivisation for new players to come in, so as to broaden the "installed user-base" and have a bigger market for subsequent DLC.)

Anyway, does this mean there won't be any new DLC next month, either? I can't remember if there were other DLCs released before "GT5 XL" - it might make sense to have some new, non-free DLC available when this new "version" releases, players might think they've saved something by getting the other DLC "for free" and so might snap up any DLC that wasn't included.

EDIT: Ha, from that press-release, there's this image. Spot the obvious error.

Depends on what you consider to be more important, you could've gone for a bargain if you waited 2 years for this to happen (something like it was unavoidably gonna happen as it does with most/all videogames or new products).
I don't regret paying the full price at launch as I can't think of a lot of things giving me the same enjoyment over a 2-year period for that amount of money.
I also don't regret paying the full price for DLC as I regularly use it, knowing full well it's a relative short term investment given it'll be included in GT6 from the start, I just want to use it right now.

I bought a 38.000 DM Luxury Sedan for 900 Euros, I just had to wait 20 years, bargain!

So the GT-R has made it to the artwork of three different GT titles. GT Concept, GT5 Prologue and now GT5 Academy Edition. Not a big suprise considering the relationship between PD and Nissan but it's getting a bit extreme isn't it?

Probably so far in with them that if they featured a different car, Nissan wouldn't approve.

Not to mention it's another easy car duplicate to pad the car list out.

And the one they used for the cover of GT5 (the SLS) is often accused of borrowing some styling cues (headlights for example) from the GT-R.
Kaz must be seriously in love with this car if the only other car he considers bares some resemblance to it.

So some gossip now that GT6 will have lots of tracks. The ball is rolling now, let see what else materializes in the coming months.

But we are confirmed that Bathurst will be in GT6, so we have that to look forward to.

Yes, that is good news. I am excited about GT6 and Bathurst, lets just hope the game is properly sorted, and without the inconsistencies of GT5. And I also hope we wait no more than a year, but that is very unlikely.

Personally I translate "lots" to mean 4-5 new real world tracks and 4-5 new original tracks, mostly from earlier GTs.

In terms of real world courses I'm hoping for Silverstone, Brands Hatch, Watkins Glen, and Road Atlanta, along with Bathurst of course. Those courses not only are prestigious worldwide but also offer plenty of layouts for the variety of cars in GT as well as challenging corners and extreme elevation changes.

Original I think we'll see Midfield, Apricot Hill, and SSR11 make a return. Any other new original course will likely be somewhere like New York City, a place where PD's design artists can have a field day and show off their talents.

We already know they have ported the icons for dozens of old tracks for use in RR's, they are probably hidden away in GT5's vol file, like with GT2.

Which ones are computer-generated?
Unless you're asking them to remove the course generator? It's a useful feature that should be expanded, not removed.

I'm saying they should expand it so it's not computer generated, rather, user-generated.

Indeed. I really like some of the Toscana tracks out there, much better than Motegi. The best part is that they were free.

It's already a hybrid in that respect, so I would expect that more user-control will be a future feature. However, I doubt we'll get anything like ModNation Racers for a while, not that we'd actually need it to be once the generator gets a bit more flexible.

And there's so much more that could be done using even a fully random generator, in terms of themes, layouts etc. It's a cracking addition that needs to be made the most of.

By Computer Generated I meant like Autumn Ring, High Speed Ring, Cape ring, etc.
