Hey, it's Pikes Peak time again (remember those dlc rumours), and now it's fully paved.
Have p.d been waiting with a fully paved version of the track; knowing that if they released the pavement/dirt version it would be outdated very quickly?

And my original statement stands: PD have said over a year and a half ago that Standards will be upgraded to Premiums, which hasen't happened. So the chances of any further DLC are pretty slim. There probably will be DLC, just not a lot.

They said there was a chance some Standard cars would be made available as Premium, they never said the whole Standard roster would be turned into Premiums.
So far the Jag XJR-9 is the only new car added as DLC which formerly was only available as Standard.
It might happen again, it might not, who knows?
Very recently Kaz said there'll be more DLC to follow so I wouldn't say the chances are pretty slim.

He certainly used the term in plural and yet as above, we've had one and it was paid DLC. Not exactly living up to that statement is he?

I'm not saying he's living up to that statement (considering we indeed only had one Standard car rebuild as Premium so far) but I think it's unrealistic to expect all or even most Standards to be given that treatment, and that article also doesn't suggest that.
It speaks of plans to add a few, and as ever, everything mentioned by Kaz is prone to be changed as soon as he's spoken it.

Well isn't that the whole point of this discussion? That Kaz can't be taken on his word and as such him saying there will be more DLC doesn't necessarily mean there will be more DLC?

Skylines! That's why it takes so long!
They want to do it model by model, but there are so many Skylines it takes them years!

You're right about that I guess, it's nothing more than a giant leap of faith.

What? It's only a game? Sacrilege!

Who knew?

I will state, though, that I'm as anxious for news as anyone else. I just don't feel the need to constantly belittle and chastise an individual over the complexity of delivering a multifaceted product created by a large team with likely multiple projects all partly steered by the higher-level interests of the parent company.

Anyway, given the fact that Kaz said they are preparing the next DLC, even allowing for "lost-in-translation to the power two", I suspect that's a little more concrete than his usual "it's something I'll be keeping in mind".
I still wouldn't take the leap and regard that as being "his word", in the sense of a binding verbal contract or even "promise", but we'll only know for sure in the fullness of time. Which is fine, we're pretty good at waiting by now...

Personally I don't even care about GT5 DLC, I want to hear their plans/progress on GT6.

I'm at that point too. But I also realize it will probably be revealed at Gamecom or TGS at the earliest so there is time to wait in between. I'll gladly take a new track or 2 between now and then.

2 months until TGS

Knowing PD, I bet they only announce GT for the Vita and refuse to talk about #6

They should have did what Square did when they fouled up with Final Fantasy XIII. Rush out an "apology" game that fixes all or most of the problems of the predecessor

Gran Turismo 6 should have been released this winter. It should have fixed all the bugs and graphical glitches with #5, vastly improve damage and crash physics, added more and interesting A-spec events, keep the standard cars but add about 125 new premium models as well as a few more tracks. Also add a better track editor and improved B-Spec with online support.

GT5 was too rough around the edges to expect it to last 4 years...

How is that to be done? What about GT5 already maxing its limit on the PS3?

I think the chance of any GT6 chatter is extremely slim. Find something else to occupy your time other than another video game convention that will surely be void of any important GT news. E3 was a big stinky fart in the face. I'm expecting the same from the rest of the 2012 conventions.

We have Aston Martin, Jaguar and Ferrari, so why do we not have these yet?

The best bit? Could use them together in online races. Any of those is better than boring same old hypercars IMO.

I wish they would focus on cars for league/series/spot events. Excellent selection posted.

I personally want a real Mustang. Like new Shelby. New Boss. Something lil more serious. Heck make the R premo at minimal. LoL my lord a Fox Body Saleen. Mmmmm

Yeah, me too, in all fairness. But I suspect that a lack of news there might have something to do with Kaz's not being able to talk about Vita...

I'd much prefer GT6 to be more than just a "fixed" GT5, so I'll happily wait another year. As for GT5 "maxing out" the PS3, ask yourselves this: how much processing power does an intuitive, fast, easy-to-use UI take up? Now ask: how much development time does it take up?
There are lots of things that can be improved on the same platform, otherwise there would never be same-gen sequels of any game.

same engine more content.
Just like GT1 and GT2 on PS1 and GT3 and GT4 on PS2.

At least thats what I'm hoping as I'm not planning on buying another console.

I must say, I may agree with this. For all we know Kaz will just release the DLC which may have the same cars from the game but TC versioned when Forza Horizon comes out, along with spec 3.0 to try and stop people from getting that game. They always do that... Seriously?

I doubt theres any DLCs made anyways so blah, I just want to know about GT6 NOW! I'm tired of hearing talk to talk but not seeing walk to walk!

That's just me. :) Hope to see more news that aren't GT Acadamy related. :(

One other time = always ? :odd: It's actually a good strategy, keeps sales up you know? Competition is always great in the business world.

I know. I think its okay too, but its soooo FAAAaaar. Can't wait for spec 3.0 if it does come with our wishes in it. Especially the Event Creator. *.*

If that's aimed at me, just wanted to say it wasn't my intention to belittle or chastise Kaz in any way, just that indeed due to the complex nature and unforeseen circumstances it could be considered helpful if he didn't suggest some things (as thinking out loud is hardly ever useful), only later having to find out it can't be done.

But yeah, maybe he's also enthusiastic (who knew? ;)) sometimes and wants to share his thoughts/plans without considering all the potential setbacks.
That does mean we shouldn't always rely on these suggestions/plans, that's what I meant by saying it's a giant leap of faith.
Not questioning his intentions or honesty, just questioning his 'media performance' if you will.

That's what I expect too, for GT6. on PS3, bigger, better and polished.

I'm certainly expecting a bit more content in GT6. In my honest opinion, we had a lot of game modes introduced in GT5 (rally, NASCAR) but none of them were really used to their fullest extent.

They were used as sideshows than as part of the main act.

But I have a feeling actually replicating the entirety of NASCAR and the FIA WRC would mean a lot more licensing fees, which PD or Sony probably didn't feel like ponying it up for.

No, I just realised that taking a sarcastic aside without actually explaining the reason why I started it was foolish. It wasn't at all aimed at you, or any individual, since I don't remember who said what and was too lazy to check.

I'd agree that often, if things are so volatile in his development environment, that he'd be better off saying nothing sometimes. But he's responding to questions, so I guess he can't sit and say nothing, only give his personal interpretations, which maybe don't get translated as such: "this is what I feel / aspire to" -> "this is what is / will be".

That's a bad mistake for a media figurehead (unwitting or otherwise), perhaps, but a nice reminder that we're all only human (and, more importantly, that PD is a collection of people). It is, as you say, important to remember that we can't put too much stock into what any individual says, but I think in some cases, given context and exact language used (which is why our native-speaker translations have been so useful in the past), it is possible to rely on them to some extent, at least in the short term (which, regarding DLC, is still the case.) As such, I do genuinely believe that Kaz does mean what he says, and in some cases his opinion has changed - I think it's harsh to consider that at the same level as a breach of contract.

But that's only a minor point against what I initially saw as a lack of forethought plus an apparent preference for self-serving, emotionally derived (but not necessarily animated) outbursts exhibited in portions of posts. They do nothing for the discussion, do nothing for PD's task in making a better game and hence nothing for us as gamers - which, of course, I appreciate is hardly a "serious" aspect of life for most of us: "only a game". ;)

Indeed, it isn't like he's a politician where not delivering on things you said beforehand isn't accepted or expected (okay, wrong example I guess) but at least it's limited within the rather trivial context of a single videogame.

Maybe it's a mixed blessing the whole media aspect isn't completely controlled by a PR department which is the case for most big companies, as then we'd only see safe predictable statements containing meaningless jibberish with the occasional news announcement when it's dead certain.
Now we get small snippets of what they're thinking about, aspire to and intent to do, which however has the colossal downside that everybody gets their knickers in a twist in a place like this when it isn't delivered.

Maybe if he made clear the things he mentions are in a tentative state (maybe he does but it's lost in translation or he simply assumes we should know that, maybe thereby assuming we're more intelligent than we really are) or a possibility, it wouldn't cause so much confusion (that's all it is basically, that and expectations more or less logically being let down due to it).
Downside to that might be that he becomes a constantly and openly brainstorming 'oracle' in the process who can say anything without being taken seriously if he isn't provided with feedback.

I think they could have given the NASCAR, WRC, and Super GT license more worth without replicating the entire season of each.

NASCAR races should have been long enough to force at least one pitstop. Pit stop strategy and at times fuel mileage is king in NASCAR, and the fact you dont come anywhere near pitting in the 5 lap NASCAR races in GT mode is pathetic to say the least.

Super GT has 10 lap races in GT mode which is an improvement over NASCAR, but again still not long enough to force even one pit stop. Why is Formula GT the only racing series in GT5 with decent race lengths? I think decent race lengths for these racing series, long enough to require 1 or two pit stops, would go very far in making them a satisfying experience.

What was the WRC license for? Just the cars? The randomly generated point to point rally racing in GT5 was one of the few bright spots of A-Spec and there should have been more of that including randomly generated snow levels, and against more then just 3 AI opponents.

Which makes me wonder if thats the reason we saw sportscars at the Indianpolis 500 instead of Formula GT.

I agree with all of your post, but this last bit is most interesting.

There are a few other "figureheads" in gaming who openly "brainstorm", as you say, and whose projects often fall short of the imaginings they induce in people. It's especially difficult for these figureheads to get the freedom to even begin to consider such openness in an industry that is becoming ever more conservative and cynical. These things combine to mean that, more often than not, we gamers feel cheated in some way, if not at least a little bit let down.

On the other hand, this openness shows, as you said, a certain level of enthusiasm for games as games. Which basically makes these sorts of people "one of us", however much they disappoint. At least there are people who are willing to wear that enthusiasm on their sleeves and inspire others to do the same.

As long as these people are giving gamers everywhere new ideas to look forward to, the gaming industry has to keep moving to constantly create better games to meet our new-found demands, instead of just "digging in" and selling us the same thing every year. (Although, there is a cynical angle to that, too, in terms of creating demand, and then implementing review embargoes to stop the "truth" from getting out early and killing sales etc.)

I also have a nagging suspicion, in Kaz's particular case, that he's saying all these wild and inspiring things (as well as very little in general) to see just how much of it the competition latches onto! :p

Sadly, they are like this (being short) to allow anyone to simply pick-up and complete. It's easier on the "casual gamer." Good for those with that little bit of spare time in the day.
