It's a FM3 pic, but I have seen similar in other titles too. Just happened to already have that one handy.
There is GT5 ad in background "coming soon"

Let me show you what cartoony looks like:

Ah, more to polygonal modeling than that.
A round thing is a lot harder to make, and uses more polys, than a boxy, fairly simple, clean, design. Even worse if it has lots of intersecting lines and creases on the body.
Think of it this way, polygons are 3 straight lines. The important bit is the straight line part.
Now, if you want to make something curved, like say, an Audi TT or Copen or Lamborghini Kanto, you need enough of those straight lines, and you need them to be small and compact to fool your eye into thinking it's a smooth line, not faceted at all.
What this does to poly count:
OM NOM NOM NOM
My other point is how clean the body is. Think of a Koenigsegg CCX.
Now, imagine if it was made of butter, you could run some wire down it, from front to rear. Like, a series of wires in this pattern:
||||||||||||
and it's make clean cuts.
then you make some cuts horizontally, from front to back:

then in the side view:

As you're now imaging, this car gets cut up quite nicely into little squares/cubes. all of the creases on the body sit nicely on an axis, from the creases just inside of the headlights to the gentle curve of the doors.
Nor, imaging the Lamborghini Kanto, or some messed up BMW FLAME SURFACING OMG ROFL car. Lines everywhere, they don't sit nicely on an axis, they cross over each other, there's bits sticking out, etc.
PAIN IN THE REAR TO MODEL.
Also, poly count OM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM.
Nice pics.....How about the website? Got any translations?
This is the only relevant piece of information:

Question: There's a shorter version of the Nurburgring GP track which is the one, If I'm recalling it correctly, that it is used combined with the Nordschleife in the 24hrs race. Is there indications that it'll be featured also in the game?
The 24hr race, and other VLN races that take place on the Nordschleife, run the full GP track too as far as i'm aware. The only changes to the GP track are that the final corner is missed off due to the circuit diverting left just before the final corner and joining the Nordschleife, then after an almost full lap, re-joining at the exit of the final corner. The third picture that amar posted (with the dark silver Ford GT leading the red Z06) shows this section of track. Might be that they sometimes use the shortened GP track that misses out the run down to and back up from the (Dunlop?) hairpin sometimes too. I know this version of the GP track gets used occasionally for club racing.
The only reason they use both the GP circuit and the Northern Loop for the 24hr race and what-have-you is because of the pit lane isn't it? They need the GP circuit's much longer and better equipped pit lane.

I don't know why some people think less color equals more realistic. Real life happens to be full of color. Some might think the first pic Amar posted on the previous page with the Enzo and Viper are oversaturated, but the color is just about perfect.Never forget all games use very high values for default colur saturation in order to make picture optimal for all kind of screens outthere.
I play all racing games in minimum color saturation which results in much better overall experience. Even GT4 and Prologue have extremly high values of saturation which needs to be tonned-down for more lifelike experience.
Adjust both pictures and lower the saturation - as you CAN DO ON YOUT SCREEN/TV/WHATEVER - and there will be no cartoon.
Simple yet effective, yes?

The problem with Forza 3 isn't that it's too colorful, it's that the balance and lighting is off, and that the Turn 10 graphic artists just aren't as good as the team of Polyphony.

Nice edit
They did use the short version during the 2009 24 hour race:

This is also the circuit that Kazunori Yamauchi drove on during that very race;

The problem with Forza 3-
Thats not right. The picture shows the VLN-Layout.
For the 24h-Race they use the Castrol-S and the Dunlop-Kehre.
The Video of Kaz ishows him racing during an VLN-Race.
For 24h and VLN they use different Layouts.![]()
