For me 20 locations = 20 different nations

Think about it:
germany = nurburgring
france= lemans, giorge v paris
italy= rome, monza (maybe)
Spain= madrid, valencia
japan= sukuka, tzukaba, fuji
usa= laguna seca, indianapolis, daytona
australia= bathrust(maybe)
honk kong= gt4 circuit
korea= gt4 circuit
switzerland= eiger norwand
portugal=estoril (maybe)

ecc ecc could it be?

I don't think we'll get reverse variations of real tracks, but yes I expect there to be three versions of Suzuka in the full game, Suzuka East, Suzuka West and the full course. What I think could possibly skew the tracks to variations ratio is a handfull of rally locations with very high numbers of stages, say Tuscany is the location and then there's 7 or 8 stages each reversable that's 14 or 16 variations from one location. That's plausable imo.
Besides, like Suzuka, there are variations of tracks we've seen in GT5:P that wern't in GT5:P. Like London, we have London and London reverse in GT5:P but Kaz already confirmed that there will be a longer version of the track. So that's at least 4 varations counting the reverse layouts.

I'd love it to be 20 countries and 70 actualy different tracks, but I don't think that's plausable. Forza 3 had 21 or 22 different tracks at launch and that re-used Forza 2's assets as well as added it's own. GT5 has taken close to the lenth of time Turn 10 spent on Forza 2 and 3 combined so Forza 3 therefore should be a good guideline to base expectations of content on. PD have beat Turn 10 content wise already with the car count, the've more than doubled the car count in the same lenth of time, even if they achieved that with the tracks which would be hard, you still don't reach 70. Expect 20odd locations to be 20odd unique tracks and if it's more then great, but I'm not counting on it.

Where can I get the demo for gt5?

Whatever, I still throughly believe that 20 locations means 20 Countries and 70 courses means 70 tracks. Until its fully debunked otherwise, thats my belief because somehow having only 20 tracks on a racing game after a previous installment featuring more then 60 just does not sound at all right to me, especially with the huge jump in hardware.

Haha prepare to be disappointed :lol:

Agree with this i do!!👍

IMO location = location. For instance Nurburg is a location. Sonoma California is a location. Locations are specific but not pinpoint. So for example that Tuscany track we saw in the E3 trailer and the Ferrari 458 trailer are one location that probably have many different tracks and layouts. Also 20 does not mean "exactly 20". It could be 21 or 29. And there is a huge difference between 20 and 29. I highly doubt the final number will be exactly 20 and 70... nothing ever works like that. Also if there is a track editor the actual number of tracks will be meaningless because technically their will be infinite tracks. Just something to keep in mind.

This, as much as I hoped it would be 20 countries which contained 70 different tracks ( and it could still be ) I'm thinking it perhaps makes more sense to expect something more realistic as Dave ( and others ) explained.
Not taking away my excitement for the game, just trying to be reasonable in what to expect and indeed if more then great, just don't get your hopes up by wishful thinking.:)

I'm hoping that they will include a track editor and that the GPS feature that they have will encourage individual tracks to get their track in the game.

The GPS track maker seems incredibly unlikely. Track editor perhaps though.

Why? If you have have a track editor, a GPS track maker is almost trivial.

you have to cover every cubic foot and how does gps distinguish elevation changes?

Almost. It would be very easy to implement, but will still take time to polish up.
Plus very few people might use it, although there are a great number of route-saving GPS devices on the market (principally for walkers etc.) so maybe it's more latent potential for later on in the lifecycle...

GPS triangulation for elevation - easy. It's not perfect, but the more connections the better. I don't know how many "mass-market" devices can do this adequately, but it's not impossible, for sure. Anyway, even if absolute altitude cannot be obtained, relative altitude should be reliable, and that's what's important for a track editor.

Please people, location=location, if they wanted to say country, there's already a word for that and it's...wait for it...country! Stop deluding yourselves. It's pretty straightforward, but on a brighter note, reverse isn't a track layout, because that would result in too few tracks altogether and technically, you're just going in reverse on an existing layout.

You would have to cover each side of the track with the gps to get the track the proper width and shape, AI just wouldn't work and it would have any barriers just a track with grass on the outside or whatever.

Certainly not trivial. Epic if it did work though :D

I'm not making an opinion on what it refers to, but if you want to use that reasoning then, there is a much better word for location in your terms.... track/course, why they wouldn't say that I don't know.

Because "London" for example isn't a racetrack, or "Yosemite" for El Capitan.
In "Yosemite" you could have three different tracks, El Capitan, Cathedral Rocks 1 & 2.

Maybe the translation guy got it wrong, and it should have been country. I'm still going with country until i'm proven wrong, and that could be settled at E3 hopefully!

OK, I see what you are saying I think, though like has been said many times 20 locations isn't very many and we already know of almost 20 different locations. But like I said I don't know what it means and only one person out of the many that has been talked to clarified the location term, so I don't know about that yet.

E3 is a month away, we'll find out for sure then whether speedfreak and the other guys are right or not.

This is not directed at you torontomi, but it doesn't matter who may be correct, what matters is that we will have 70 variations to drive on, be it dirt, ice/snow or tarmac.

Not much different from GT4, though the locations may be different.

G.T.Ace and TokyoDrift
What they said.^^
So say we all.;)
No, seriously, Nurburgring is a location, it has 3 track layouts(variations). There's nothing dubious about that and it fits perfectly to what they've been saying all along. I think people are just engaged in wishful thinking, because they desire more distinct locations...
Anyways, isn't it more than 20 locations and more than 70 variations?;)

Driving the inside and outside would give you the rough shape that you could then edit. Many laps with many different lines would give much better data. I would be very surprised if PDs system didn't include accelerometers which would give altitude data as well as bumps in the track. In just an hour of doing laps, you would have a ton of data to reconstruct the track. You wouldn't get a perfect layout but it would be pretty darn good and pretty cheap.

I don't wanna rain on anyone's parade here, but I think that all this talk about a track editor is wishful thinking, and wouldn't be surprised at all if something just got lost in the translation. I'm pretty sure making a proper track for a game like GT5 is hard, hard work and involves a lot of know-how. I just don't see how it could be feasible for PD to include a track editor, unless it was very basic.

Just my two cents of course! ;)

Daytona - 2
Nurburgring - 3
Fuji - 2
High Speed Ring - 1
Eiger - 1
London - 2
Suzuka - 3
La Sarthe - 2
Tokyo Route 246 - 1
Special Stage R5 - 1
Madrid - 1
Indianapolis - 2
Rome - 1
Top Gear - 1 (possibly 2 if they seperate the strip from the course)

Ok here's an updated list based on what G.T.Ace said. We have 14 tracks and 23 variations.

Baffled as to how they'll scrape 47 variations from 6 more tracks :crazy:

You forgot they count reverse as a variation on some tracks (HSR, Tokyo, ...)

actually Nurburgring has more than 3 variations. The GP circuit has quite a few
