I'm actually concerned that having a track editor can hurt GT5 more than help it. User-made content tend to be buggy and lower in quality than developer content.

Think of it like who on earth would spend the time to make something like the Stelvio Pass (as most want it but it may not be there) as good looking and accurate as most of the GT5 tracks are?

Of course there are going to be TONS of crappy, low-quality, not worth playing tracks. But, a few are going to be made from people who actually care, and we can all download those select few (if we get a track editor).

I agree. 👍 Those crappy ones just come with the feature. Its going to be the same thing if we get liveries, Many folks will have :yuck: liveries on their car while others will create true masterpiece design.

LittleBigPlanet says otherwise. Granted, a lot of user generated content isn't going to be great, the stuff that is tends to be amazing. With a way for the community to grade them, the cream will rise to the top. Just look at all the mods available for the PC sims.

You could make that same argument against a livery editor, but the positives outweigh the negatives.

Wow, I'm not going to have much of a need watching the Speed Channel anymore if we have spectator mode with racing like that. That's going to be so much fun just to watch, let alone participate in. One race you can watch a few supercars go at it, and the next you can go and watch a teeth-cringing rally race. Can't wait til November.

GT5: the real driving and race watching simulator :dopey:

You can already watch online races live at iRacing.com. You can watch any race, but they also feature their NASCAR sanctioned series that features the very top sim drivers on iRacing, and their road racing series that features the same. You can actually view the standings and schedule for the NASCAR series right on NASCAR.com.

iRacing features a lot of great racing, and YouTube is a great place to watch some clips and recaps.

Do you, really, think that some one in the earth could recreate Spa circuit, exactly like the real life one just with the track-editor??I don't think so!!let's be serious,it's GT5 not Modnation Racers! If you want to recreate a track like Spa,Imola.....you need a lot of modern and expensive equipment like Laser-scan........We need hundreds of maps. so please stop it with this stupid thing and give me the game!!

I said the same in another thread. Personally I feel the track editor will be more suited towards the Go Karts.

Somehow, I think if it was off 10 feet here and there, as long as it was close and had good trackside details, I doubt you would mind very much. Or could tell, for that matter. ;)

Before some of you start declaring features as brain dead and useless, maybe we should try the game out before we pre-judge it. I didn't think Photo Mode would be much use at all, but two weeks ago, I spent all my free time taking over 2000 images!

And as with the LittleBigPlanet user made stuff, there are some astoundingly talented people out there. Everything gets graded, so all we have to do is wait for the highly rated stuff to make it to the top of the boards. And most likely, there will be people here who can help us design proper tracks. Furthermore, I'd imagine that the talented folks at PD will be making a few as well.

Just a thought. 👍

Don't want to sound harsh, but seriously, we're not gonna be able to recreate real life tracks. It's not a 3D modeling tool, it's a racing game. Just look at the process PD are going through for making one single track. It takes months even for them!

It's "Track Editor", not "Track Creator".

That's right. Another hint is this

Third tale says that for the first time ever skypaths will not be just solid and already known but that new skypaths will be built by birdtamers from the parts of existing skypaths.

hardvibes

This is most logical variant.I think exactly the same.Who needs a track creator in pixel-perfect, realistic racing sim.

Smoke
Never.

No, it's not. You know as much as everyone else does since we've barely heard anything about it or if it's even true. What we have heard so far, however, from Yoshida, is that we can "create and share" tracks. That points to a "track creator."

And there's a big difference between professionally recreating a track from scratch and making a track within a game with a bunch of presets and limitations.

Exactly, so even if it is a track creator (which I still doubt, but time will tell), we will not be able to create real life tracks accurately.

This is roughly how I feel; look at the 'Ring. It'd be (relatively) easy to map it out in some kind of track creator, but unless you had intimate knowledge of it, you wouldn't be able to get all the random bumps and cambers that the real track has. If we get a creator (instead of editor), I don't feel it would be strong enough to realistically recreate much. And despite some users saying "hey, it's close enough"... that seems like an odd attitude to take with a game that always tries to get things as realistic as possible. Funny how realism taking a back seat can be positive, only when it's convenient.

But, there is a good point, and others have mentioned a voting/ranking system. In that case, we would see the greatest user-created stuff float to the top, and it'd be easier to pick and choose because of it. The thing I'm worried about with custom tracks is there will be countless leagues where people will want to drive their own tracks, maybe once, and then probably let them sit. It's why I'm more excited about a livery editor; in no way will it affect how I play the game online. Well, other than potential offensive liveries, but those wouldn't really bother me much anyways.

And since Kaz specifically mentioned a livery editor (and number plate!) all those years ago, I'm holding him to it. I'll get far more use out of something like that!

Yes, this is one of the reasons I highly doubt we will get a detailed track creator. There would just be too much crap out there. I think we will simply be able to change and make our own layouts of already excisting tracks, or something like that.

If I'm really lucky, we will for example be able to use the drag strip at Infineon Raceway thanks to this.

I'll happily leave the anal-retentive replication up to PD regarding track-editor and even livery-editor as the main thing I'm looking out for if any of these features makes it, is creating things which don't exist already.
This would make it as real as PD's own fantasy tracks or fantasy cars as a real-life recreation ( especially regarding tracks ) would have to be truly spot on to work which is almost impossible to do I guess, as any detail not properly recreated would spoil it.
With millions potentially having a go at creating tracks ( with different levels of talent ) a ranking or voting system would probably help although we don't know if we can even use and share those tracks online ( or whether this feature is even in at all frankly ).
Could be it only works offline in GT-mode although sharing your creations online is part of today's experience in a lot of games and as for voting and ranking them, a starting point could perhaps also be the time spend creating them being visible.

Since you clearly want drag racing to be in GT5 I would've guessed you might welcome it purely to create drag strips.:)

I only hope that PD didn't lose time and resource to implement useless features like Track-editor,instead of improving the crappy GT5P-engine sound!!

How is it useless if you haven't used it yet?
