NOPE!

"...however we could not replicate the smell of barbecue."

SONY missed an opportunity with the Signature Edition. It should have included a small barbeque and some steak, it wirelessly connects to the PSTripple and only turns on 4 hours into the Nur 24h event.

That's exactly why the game has taken long. They want to include as much as possible so all the "wise" things don't suffer from the inclusion of things such as skidmarks.

I would easily give up skid marks (that really don't add anything to the game play) if it ment one more standard car made the jump to premium.

Why? Your telling me that 1 car would make that big of difference? You will see skid marks everytime you race, and will add so much more to the track detail making it less sterile and more realistic. I didn't really care that much about it until I actually saw it in a GT game, I'm really happy with it.

It wouldn't, they are modeled by different departments.

Cars: Car/track modlers
Skid marks: Physics developers

It's just essential to add a rich level of detail if you want to make appealing games on this generation of gaming consoles.

I would give up my TV for a McLaren F1.

Car modellers model cars. Skidmarks are done by a completely different group of people. Even if the same people did both things, it takes 6 months to make a car. Surely skidmarks wouldn't take anything close to that.

...it depends on how accurately they want to recreate skidmarks, I suppose.

Tire compound/tread/width dependent? ;)

Nope.. it would take way longer :ouch:

Tyre width would be a variable from the car itself (ie somewhere in the Ferrari 458 folder would be something that says: FrontSkidMarkWidth=XXXX RearSkidMarkWidth=XXXX). Compound would be done in a similar way, with some variable calling one of (say 10) different skidmark textures. They might also do some bit of code to determine how easily each compound leaves marks ont he ground.

So a programmer, an artist, maybe a week or so (tested and ready to ship), + 5 minutes for each car developed to have the right variables added in somewhere.

It looks like there's a Kaz interview in Famitsu this week. I haven't been keeping up with GT5, so I'm not sure what's new, but here's what Game Jouhou has in its summary:

The game includes elements surrounding the driver's personality, strength and mental condition.
There's importance placed on driver management
During endurance races, you can swap out drivers
The weather will change in real time during races
The game will have racing modifications, although not for all cars

Skid marks: 0:28 - 0:33 seconds.

Hmmmm....personality characteristics. I want to see more detail before I judge. Surely, there will be lots of speculation though.

But, dynamic weather is (almost) confirmed. Now, I want to see it in action. Whoo!

Also, in regard to the track creator. I am thinking this will only be for karting. If it allows for more than that... it'll be mustard on a hot dog.

You really should search before posting "breaking news".

Gran Turismo 5 is going to be very much a "caRPG", by the sounds of it.

It mainly confirms kart racing and some of the tracks that'll be available in GT5

^^^That's a bit old buddy. Thats the Not-So Official Playstation Mag.

Ha!!!! I said I would bet money on weather
