This argument is boring. Back on point...

10GB install, eh? WOW. I should've expected, but somehow I'm a little surprised (don't ask why, because I don't have an answer). I'd better do some PS3 house-cleaning before November. I'm pretty sure I don't have room as it stands now.

Just out of curiosity why is 10GB a big deal? What do you all have on your PS3? Saving games takes that much or does the other download material? I just bought a PS3 and have had a few 360s on and off and never took up any space on there so I'm just curious what takes up so much space.

I think this will be the biggest install for a retail game (on disk).. I think

It isn't really a big deal if you have the space on your harddrive. But for someone who still has the 20gb or even 40gb it could be a "minor" problem more for the former rather than the latter...

Other game installs fills up my 40gig hard drive pretty quickly.

Demos, game installs, game files, videos, etc.

10Gb instal is fine by me , it's nothing special if you look at pc games.

Yeah my last GTr2 install was over 20bg(including mods and 90+ individual tracks).

Not anywhere NEAR the level of quality\detail in GT.

But GT is pretty much the only game I'm getting, aside from the usual F1\WRC games, so id gladly give all the 160g to GT.

Does GT5 and also GT5P work well with the Logitech Precision PS3 controller? I am bound to replace my DS3 and I just love the Logitechs but I hear some sounds that the controller doesn't function well with GT5P?

The good thing about GT5 is that you can`t really be completely done with, there are many endurance races, some hard races, you drive to earn money to buy 1000 cars, it`s obvious, this will take time. And don`t forget the online feature, I assume new online events will come out frequently, new cars will be launched and so on. I`m still playing GT5P, trying to set better times and crawl the lists.

Why not? After you do all the license tests, events, driving missions, races, and collect all the cars, technically you're done with it.

You are right dave, you could go through the whole game and be done with it.. but it also depends on how much you keep using the various modes.

Though there are still people myself included who play 4 and its lasted 6 years... and to me GT5 will last even longer due to the big inclusion of online.. GT6 not permitting...

Show me one single driving game that replicates how a car would react in all crash situations. Fact is, no sim out there does a great job of it, and all are half-assed to some degree.

Tell that to the hardworking folks at iRacing that are constantly updating their damage system.

I agree, but how is that different from any other video game? I was just pointing out that him saying GT5 will never get old cause of this and that is no different than any other game never getting boring because of that and this.

Has it occured to anyone that since its a "Collaboration", we might be seeing a fictional design like the NIKE car instead of any real F1 car?

That's the first thing that occured to me when I read they would include a "special" car designed by Adrian Newey, before everybody else pointing out to me it probably just meant a Red Bull F1 car which could also be the case I guess.
The fact he was prominently featured in that E3 trailer ( and the autoclave, etc. ) made me think this could indeed refer to a fictional race car where Newey had free reign to design his deam racer without the constriction of FIA regulations, only the laws of physics.

It's a driving game or in the case of GT5, a driving/racing sim. Depending on your interest in car/racing, games like this can have an infinite enjoyment possibilty. GT5 Prologue for example, lasted over two years for me. It would've been more had I not sold my PS3 a few months ago (out of necessity). Provided that you have a good set of FFB wheel, a good imagination (and as I've mentioned an innate interest in cars/racing) and not so much interest in latest tech gadget/gaming, this game has good possibility of being the only game you'll ever need.

Even just using a controller GT-games aren't just over when you reached 100%, golded all licences and own each car.
I've played GT4 for years after finishing the game, purely just for driving around in my favourite rides.
The fact we now have a comprehensive online aspect to look forward to as well only means the longevity of this game will extend almost endlessly to those who enjoy driving cars and racing real life opponents.
Until GT6 arrives that is.

I agree.. what it boils down to is personal choice and preference

If a game "any game" grabs you and you enjoy it or a certain aspect of it.. then of course your'e going to keep at it.

I've always wanted to point that out too; every game has an "infinite replayability" feature if you like the game enough. People do it with GT4, I do it with Final Fantasies or even Metal Gear. Or GTA. GT is no different.

A member posted over in the off-topic area about GT5 showing up in Toronto this weekend. I'd be tempted to go see it since the game has been unusually sparse on this side of the pond, but the cost of entry ($30+) and the punishment of having to be stuck around a bunch of furries and/or comic book fanatics just isn't worth it :(

Yes. My best friend and I used to have Resident Evil Remake Time Trials to see which is fastest to beat the game. Just an example to show that every game is infinitely replayable to someone, and not to others. GT5 will be no exception, obviously.

That's the stupidest game. lol

You all need to study more in school, specifically reading comprehension. I don't want damage just to blow stuff up and have action, IT'S PART OF A REAL SIM. No damage = not real.

you should not shoot at all the comments people throw at you.
Not all reactions are intended to be serious. ;)

and by the way I finished school about 20 years ago:odd:

But it doesn't get as repetitive (in fact, it never gets repetitive) as other games if you play them for hundrets of hours and I think, that is the point.

Right, I read it wrong. Long day. I apologize.

I think this has to do partly with there being no story line and no fixed trajectory you have to follow.
Sure there are goals ( licences and events ) but after that ( or during ) it's basically cars, tracks and associated paraphernalia ( and now online ).
For the casual gamer who's not that much into cars it will probably become boring and tiresome after a while, for the petrolheads it's mostly all they need to entertain themselves.

The endurance races alone will give you more than 24h of gameplay.

EDIT: was this posted already? http://www.justpushstart.com/2010/08/28/gran-turismo-5-offers-hard-drive-install/

Well, not sure if this is a big deal or not but I guess it depends on what PS3 you have. For me having only actually used about 5 GBs on my original 60GB PS3, I'm pretty much set. Of course, I wonder what effects those updates like we had with GT5P(with additional cars) will have on it assuming they do that for GT5.

10GB install? So...GT5 really IS going to be the largest video game EVER! Awesomeness. I bet, though, most of that is premium car data with a little bit of track data tossed in.

Just noticed that it says also optional. Hmmmm, Now it begs the question for people with memory to spare like me: Should I Install or should I not install? None of the games I have were downloaded from the PSN store as I either got them before I got a PS3 or couldn't find that title in the PSN store.

That's because of you, though. GTR2 by itself was less than 2GB. Most PC games however, are not pushing 10GB installs.

For a 4 year old game, you think?

Yeah as I said INCLUDING MODS AND 90+ TRACKS..

For a 4 year old game, yeah I do think.

I heard everything is bigger in Texas, I didn't know it included the illiteracy rate. :dunce:

POINT WAS a 10G install for such a massively detailed and feature packed game IS NOTHING.

That was not necessary at all.

The only downside is waiting a while for it to install. After that you will get better loads times in game.

So if you have the room to spare and the urge to make a sandwich theres no reason why not.

Edit- my reply was to 'nascar' not the other nonsense that's on the page.
