Or that.. But how does it work, does it matter what Upload speed the host has, etc?

I'm not sure. However, I noticed a feature where you could type a number in and the event that had that number would appear. Maybe GTplanet events could have their own specific numbers.

I queued for the midnight release and was very much looking forward to playing GT.
I wasn't expecting a hardcore sim, which it isn't, I just wanted some nice graphics and fun.
For a console game, maybe this is the closest thing to a sim there is, but compared to actual racing sims(iRacing, netKar-pro, rFactor), it falls very flat.

The graphics really dissapointed me. Very poor textures and god awful shadowing. I don't know what all the fuss was about.
Some tracks look fairly nice but others are too dull for words.

The driving feels quite nice for a console game, which makes up for a lot, not the ai though which is stupid beyond belief. I also have issues with it periodically locking up for me. Dunno if anyone else is having that or if it's just my PS3 though?

The force feedback needs alot of work. The only effect it really has is centering spring which just adds tension to the wheel. You get the odd effect but not very well implimented at all.

Saying all that though, it is quite good fun once you get into it and try to ignore the flaws.
It does beg the questioin though, "what were PD doing for 5 and 1/2 bloody years?".
Most of the content is direct port from GT4 with slight texture improvement.
GT suffers from what it always suffered from, trying to do too much.
It does lots of things to a fair to reasonable standard, rather than concentrating on doing 1 or 2 things to the best quality possible. I mean who the hell wants or needs a bloody photo mode in a racing game/sim??? It's not photographer simulator!!

We'll see if the monthly patch that PD promised will fix some of the many issues with this title.
As I said, I'm not expecting a sim, so handling wise it's fine as is.
Just some graphics polishing and ai tweaking and I'll be happy.

You dont make any sense :dopey:

The physics are actually very good. It feels alot closer to driving at the ring than rFactor. (irl) (for me anyway)

Ok, buddy. You can talk about physics, wheel feedback or anything else.

But how the hell can you say this about Photo Mode ?
Gran Turismo is not only about drive, is about cars, and how they look, how they feel. And is for this and some other things that i'm thankful of GT don't be a hardcore sim game, or whatever you want to call.

If I wanted to play an "RPG" I'd play something like Fallout (moreof an Action RPG) It feels sometimes more like an RPG to me than a racing game.

It's a game I absolutely hate loving.

Different strokes for different folks I guess. Photo mode and all that type of fluff is totally unnecessary for me though.

I do like GT and the way it handles. iRacing, netKar and rFactor(with the right mods) are better IMO, but they are alot more specilized.
GT does a great job in covering so many car types and styles.

The lack of damage does take away from the sim aspect of it though.
Also the very poor quality of the ai Driving.

Driving something meaty lke the zonda around the green hell is very satisfying though ;)

The main reason I got GT was for the green hell and la sarthe and for these alone I am happy.
If they fix the ai and the jaggy shadowing it will be reallly great.

Also, has anyone else noticed that while driving along the main straight on the High Speed Ring in arcade mode, no matter how hard you try and keep the car straight, the car has a tendancy to 'sway' almost like a pendulum sensation? Hard to explain but it's odd. May just be the car (Mitsi Evo). I'm using a DFGT wheel.

Well JDM cars arent optimized to go past 180kmh(limiter) , so going speeds in excess of that will cause instability.

This is a much discussed issue in BMI, especially when comparing Euro and JDM sports cars...

Gan-san always laments how he feels the Japanese car designers are severely limited by these speed restrictions, not only to make the car go fast, but for it to handle well at high speeds.

I can understand your feelings though. I felt the same the first night but after giving it some time it does have it's charms and with some more polish and refinement it could be a gem.

The problem with GT is that it was sooooooo long in development that anything short of utter perfection is going to annoy people who were waiting patiently for nearly 6 years.

B-Spec Races are insane! The Vitz race was crazy. My guy lost, but...I mean, they were 5 wide down the straights...and about 7 wide in the corners. It was chaos!

Yep! Agreed. It's still a very good game which i'll enjoy for a long time.

Anyway I don't mean to offend but I read your reply in my head in an Irish accent. Didn't mean to, it just happend to happen.

Feel free to Yorkshire me back :)

From the Eurogamer article/interview...

"Journalist: I've test-driven a lot of the cars. Modern cars now drive quite alike – often it's hard to appreciate the difference between them. In the game there's always a difference between two cars – what do you do to enhance that difference? "

Does anyone else find this question a bit odd and/or annoying? I would love some opinions...

:D excellent. That cracked me up. What irish accent though?

Also another thing that i forget to mention in my initial rant :D
The brake implimentatioin with ABS turned off is just wrong.
A slight application of brake with no ABS will not lock tyres in real life.
Without ABS you can heavily apply the brakes( in a progressive manner) while traveling at speed due to the way downforce works and you will not get tyre lockup. Only when speed drops do you then ease off the pedal to prevent lockup.
This is how brakes work!
Not in GT though.
Even the slightest squeeze on the brakes with no ABS wil result in lockup. Am using G27 wheel and pedals and race iRacing alot along with netKar and rfactor and rarely get lockup.

...I've noticed that while driving in cockpit view the overall gameplay seems a lot more 'jittery' compared with the same view in GT5P. Have they done this on purpose to create a more in-car feel? Not sure but it takes a bit of getting used to. ...

Kazunori (sp?) Said that when he was racing the 24h of Nordschleife it his view and body were shaking a lot more than he expected, so that it would be looked at for GT5.

I bet that's the reason.

Hey guys I was browsing gamespots forums and it seems like they found a way to get cars easily read about it here http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/941103-gran-turismo-5/57268602. If you keep on reading it explains how the game gifts you a car from your birth year on your birthday. Some guys are creating new accounts with fake birth dates and transferring them to their main accounts.

So where do i change my birthday at?Or must i create a new account on my ps3?

So last night the kids are tucked in, wifey is off to bed, and I can finally sit down and play GT5.

What a 🤬 delight it was. The physics are so good I was able to drive the cars intuitively, not learn to drive the game. The AI is vastly improved. And my old favourite tracks are back.

I can take on board the criticism levelled at the game for the mixed bag of graphic quality, but seriously, how can you focus on that when the experience of driving is such a visceral thrill? I mean the graphics vary from great to superb.

I'm so happy to be immersed in this world again, and I believe GT5 is a true driver's game. Those who appreciate that will love it, and those who are worried about jaggy shadows should look up at the apex, or play something else.

When they could be driving instead.

For those who are late:

1. Create a new account.
2. Select your birthdate as the year of the car you are looking for.
Use this list as reference:
http://www.gran-turismo.com/local/jp/data1/products/gt5/carlist_en.html
3. Start the game up, since it's your birthday, you will receive a voucher for a free car for the year you were born. Redeem your voucher and receive your car at random.
4. Gift this car over to your regular account.
5. Delete your save file for the account you just created.
6. Start up GT5 again with this account and you be able to redeem another voucher.
7. Repeat as necessary.

It goes without saying that you do this at your own risk. However, Sony generally does not care about this sort of stuff.

Birthday cars can't be resold over a certain amount.

1967 is the sweet spot for expensive classics. Ford Mark IV, 330 P4, Muira, 2D.

Anything over 1992 is subject to minor restrictions. 1992 has the F40.

Haha! Just a kinda mixed accent from Fathur Tead to Whatsisname from the apprentice Dara O'brien. Anyway, sorry but it sounds cool as *.

Anyway, more to the point. I find my G27 feels exactly the same as prologue but more subtle. ABS is best at 1. As in prologue.
ABS on 0 is suicide.
Best o'luck mate!

Kaz interview

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-11-25-kazunori-yamauchi-interview-interview

Let's hope they listen

Kazunori Yamauchi: Of course that's true and it would have been nice to have more time, but at one point we have to release the game because my imagination alone is not enough to make the game evolve to where we want it to go. We really need to listen to the voice of our citizens and see what they want out of the experience and evolve with that.

Eurogamer: On a specific note, will you be adding online matchmaking soon?

Kazunori Yamauchi: In this release we focused on the features that allow close friends to race together. Online updates are planned of course for leaderboard and matchmaking - [they're] all planned in the process of evolution.

---

Kazunori Yamauchi: Yesterday the online service was kind of in a critical state. The data centre was set up to handle 500,000 connections but the number of connections we received greatly exceeded that amount and there was a high chance of experiencing problems as a result.

The design of the GT game really integrates the online and offline parts. So the problems online actually affected the offline play as well. Right now we've changed the number of simultaneous connections that are possible to one million, doubling the number, and we're trying to gauge what will happen, but we don't know at this point in time.

We also received a lot of demands for having more regulations placed on the online play. We're going to perform an update on the 27th that will include things like max power restrictions and weight restrictions. It's like a living creature, dynamically growing as we speak.
