GT5 shots zoomed in

May I ask where you found that "in-game" screenshot? The resolution is far too high for it to be captured from gameplay, not to mention the anti-aliasing.

In the interests of keeping on-topic, here's some off-screen shots captured from Prologue.

It's in game in the sense that the picture is taken with the car racing on a track. The other shot is taken from a photomode setting.

Heres a zoomed in Standard car, taken from a HD version of the Standard car video released shortly after E3,
I can see why we haven't been shown many decent shots if this is there quality, think about this racing against a P4, :ouch:

Correct. It is a part of this official screenshot.

Then I presume both gameplay and Photo Mode possess identical graphical quality, and the drop in polygons is down to a simple level of detail switch. In this Photo Mode screenshot, that you presumably took the former image from, the engine bay fills almost the entire screen, whereas in the latter screenshot this is not the case.

I think we should wait and see what the standard cars look like alongside the premiums in the final game until we judge their quality. Also, even if it was a high resolution trailer, the quality of the screenshot will always be significantly worse than a pre-rendered 18MP-picture.

That is certainly possible, since I presume this distance-triggered detail switch will exist in GT5 as well (it was there in previous GT versions).

However, I personally think that what we see here is an actual difference in detail level because one shot is from photomode. I think that the car models used in photomode will use the maximum amount of details while the gameplay models will be somewhat reduced in the very details.

I still maintain that we will not be able to drive Premium cars alongside Standards. Why else would they release a separate trailer portraying races with exclusively Standard cars on track? Because the only alternative would look utterly ridiculous, that's why. :yuck:

In the interests of staying on topic.

you can't compare a screenshot to a 18 megapixle picture as the screen shot will be 1920x1080 and the in game photos will be 5760 × 3240.

Unfortuneately thats the best we have, and regardless of the quality, its fairly obvious that its in another ballpark compared to the premium,
Look at the ingame GT5P shots, the quality is clearly evident even though its an off-screen capture,
Whereas the Standard R8 I posted is clearly lacking in detail, just look at the headlights, or even the sponsors on the original image,
Its hard to believe there from the same game as most of the other pics.

Screen resolution is not linked to the number of polygons a car is made up of. If the standard cars look like that at 1080p, they'd look like that at 18mp resolution, too. How else do you think they made the GT4 screenshots in 720p standard whilst the game was putting out PAL SD at its highest through the standard PS2 cable?

lol, how about that Microsoft logo? :)

hey guys open a dictionary and look for "Gran Turismo 5 "
i did that and this is my result : unbelievable , this is not a joke really

Will the standard models have this level of detail on them as well? I know that most likely they won't have interior views - but their outsides will be just as detailed as the premium models, right? :nervous:

No, PD always used relatively low-res textures for their liveries.

Even that NASCAR screen, Premium cars have low-res stickers etc. They could make the game look so much nicer by just 2xing them.

It looks like Standard models will not have the same level of 3D rendering instead they're just polished GT4 models, which is ok since the PS2 couldnt support them, but the Premium models they have are AMAZING.

Standard=Ok, even good.

Premium=AMAZING.

Step your texture game up PD!

Check the pic of the R8 LMP above, thats a standard model, as it stands now, that is what we can expect as weve had little else to go by,
So no, nowhere near as detailed as the Premium models:guilty:

No they won't ( check the "Your thoughts about Standard and Premium" thread ) and definitely won't have interior view unfortunately.

It will be the same as they did with Forza and GT4. The model detail between in race and photomode will be noticeable.
So how can the quality be the same when one is graphically more detailed than the other? I'm not disagreeing that the models are the same.

Because they wanted to introduce us to the standard cars.

We can't make a proper comparison yet.-

1. The picture of the standard R8 LMP was taken from a freeze frame from a video. Even though it's HD, the freeze frame blurs it partially, and distorts the focus.

2. The pictures of premium cars were put out by PD to look as photo realistic as possible with a full 18 mp.

A good comparison then? Not at all.

I/We can't make a clear comparison till I pop the Blue-ray into my PS3 so I can see the difference in full HD on my LED AQUOS TV.

How does the PS3 manage to render 18mp images? I thought the highest resolution the PS3 could handle was 1920x1080.

I know the internet is awash with 18mp pictures, but I assumed that they were rendered from a workstation or something like that, and not the PS3. Do you know for sure that they are from the PS3? 👍

1920x1080 is the maximum screen output, the PS3 can render images of 100000x100000 if it wants to. It's just that HD TV's cannot display a higher resolution.
It the same as your camera, it will make 10MP pictures, but it will only display them in a smaller resolution on it's screen.

The 18MP pictures will also not be rendered in realtime (being in 1/60 of a second) to allow such a resolution and added effects.

Ah right, it's just that I remember back when WipeoutHD was released the game could only render images that were of the same resolution that you were playing at. If you played in SD, then the images were SD. If you played in HD, then they were in HD.

I always assumed that was because of the limitation of the hardware, and not the game, maybe I was wrong... :sly:

Thanks for the whole follow up on standards vs premium conversation. But I would like this thread to be zoomed in pictures of GT5.:)

I just watched the "Standard Cars" video again on the official Gran Turismo site - and they look amazing. I would say that on the outside they look identical to the level of detail put into the premium models.

This makes me think that the extra mile was taken with the interiors only of the premium models; so to differentiate the premium models from the standard models the outside is the same level of detail, but the interior has a level of finess and polish that the standard models don't have to begin with.

If that is the case, I am fine with that as long as the cars look photo-realistic on the outside [this is not to say that I wouldn't be disappointed if the Bugatti Veyron didn't feature a cockpit view - because I really, really want that as a premium model!]. Dynamic weather on all courses [or even just on 24 hour races with random weather/time of day generated on normal 3-4 lap races] would be the best addition to the GT5 formula and I can't wait to hear more about it!

As the end result, we all want GT5 to be the best racing sim ever created and if it lives up to the standards set forth by my previous sentences - it will exceed our expectations. ;)

Have you paused at any stage to look properly at the models, or seen the NSX in the B-Spec pics, they look terrible and nowhere close to premiums.

Good for you. In reality however they're not even comparable to premium cars, because as I've said a 100 times, they are carried over directly from GT4. But then again, if you want to stay blind, that's just good for you because then you'll not be bothered by the huge difference between the two. 👍

Some amazing pictures in this thread. The photomode is going to consume my life again for sure.

On a more positive note,
Yes please!!

They could, and end up using twice the memory for them. Unless you meant going from 256x256 to 512x512 (for example...) which is of course a 4x increase in memory usage.

The PS3 is a bit short on memory, really. Although it does have 256 Mb of very very fast memory, it'd still be a nightmare to manage all the constant transferring of data required.

My expectation is that (aside from any missing features, like cockpit view and aero parts etc.) the standards should be fine in-game. Photomode, though, is made for the premiums this time around.

Some great details in the shots that have been released. Most of my favourites have been posted 👍

That's unbelievably false. Gran Turismo 5 uses exactly the same standard of car model whether during gameplay or in Photo Mode. As I've already explained in this post, the apparent difference in quality is down to the level of detail engine, which would be present during both gameplay and Photo Mode.

This is not the "GT5P shots zoomed in" thread.

Prologue uses identical car models to the finished game, therefore the images are, essentially, also Gran Turismo 5 screenshots.

314w1ky.jpg

Gran Turismo 5's car models are no more detailed than that whatsoever.
