Prologue proved they could use 200k polygon models in real time. I was wondering if they could do the same with 500k polygon models but apparently not unfortunately. Still, the engine bay is still quite detailed and the rest of the car looks pretty much identical. I'm wondering if they were able to bring this number up to 300k or even 400k.
Apparently we will have the "photomode vs race" models we had in GT4, but I think it's too soon to draw any conclusions on this matter. It's possible PD went overboard with that jaguar, crossing the 500k budget for that car, so the one used in-game is toned down to 500k. Well who knows, we need more info. A few more screen comparisons from other cars should do the trick.
You mean future proof like the GT4 models?
There's so much you can do with cleaver optimizations. If you ask me, PD pulled off a miracle in this area already. Otherwise they would never be able to use those premium models in-game. Even if they are a bit simplified.

The premium models are future proof. So they'll be able to plug them into a PS4 GT without anyone complaining about the quality. That'll allow them to focus on other cars since they won't have to worry about rebuilding those premium cars.

^Well why don't they change the game engine or tweak it so that its less resource consuming?
