I'm fairly certain that courses are not designed to look like specific objects/animals/etc. Some may be I guess, but it's essentially the same as a Warshak test or looking at clouds. The mind thinks in shapes and pictures and we can easily draw associations between similar shapes.
I never heard anyone say it was better when it's shorter.

I once owned a F1-game (F1 1995 or something), including a special track which had the shape of a Formula-car (with wheels and spoilers), and I liked it very much!
