Hello everyone :)

I have a simple question and I decided to open this thread to talk about the next gen GT...

Do you think that PS4 will be able to run the next GT with the graphics of GT6 photomode?

It would be awesome to see all those effects such as high detailed shadows and lightning, improved reflections, motion blur, depth of field running at smooth 60fps and 1080p...

The PS3 takes a while to render one single frame on photomode, but I can't guess if PS4 would be able to render those graphics in real time...Since the last trailer of driveclub, I've been hopeful about the next GT...

Photomode is taken from in-game, so it's the same graphical content and level as GT6 - photomode is what you use in the replays. Or did you mean something else when saying photomode?

In truth though, some photomode shots I've made have been spoiled by missing layers from the shot - dosen't happen very often. I would imaging though that GT7 will be smoother all around, processing the images more swiftly and have better layering.

I think the PS4 should be able to easily handle that, judging by how incredibly good Driveclub looks (although Driveclub only runs at 30 fps).

Im hoping that PD take their time with gran turismo 7, no need to rush it. Like back in the day when gran turismo 3 came out, comparing it to previous games in the series and to games in general it completely took graphics for a video game to a whole new level setting a new benchmark, check out the trailer for it, if you've never seen it before you won't believe how good it looked for its time. Getting back to your question, like Elf said, the photomode stuff is from the actual gt6 game itself, so I wouldn't try to compare what gt7 may look like with the gt6 photomode, but I get your point, will it look really nice like in photomode? I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

We all know that PD uses a "photomode style" rendering to make their GT trailers. The graphics seen there are a lot better than the actual gameplay. In the same manner, photomode looks better than GT gameplay (the FX are rendered with more detail and higher res) but it takes a long time to render one frame ;/

If GT7 doesn't look far superior to GT6 Photo Travel I will disappointed. There are many poor environmental textures in the Photo Travel. The car models are the main attraction and I expect the in-game models of GT7 to be GT6 PT cars with vastly improved lighting to push things on further still. Also, I expect the shadows to be fixed.

We can all rest easy as GT7 will look fabulous and I think we will all agree on that if nothing else.

I think most of us are expecting all of the problems of GT5/6 to go away with the PS4 and I hope that is true, but PD has shown that they have trouble striking a balance between dazzling features and consistency in the graphics. It's possible they may just push the PS4 too far and have to make comprimises with some things in order to get everything to "work".

I think the intro to GT6 is a good indicator as to how good GT7 will look. I see no jaggies whatsoever in that video & am happy! :D

i think gt7 will look better, but if they deliver a partial game out the box, which has crappy ai and busted and broken and incomplete online features , then i can fogive them, as long as it looks better........sarcasm

Well, here's GT6 photomode in action. You guys tell me if this looks like GT7.

The biggest jump will be in texture quality, for sure. The per-pixel power won't matter so much, but it will definitely help with antialiasing, shading and screen-space effects. The extra bandwidth, too, will help with some of the quality issues such as posterisation / banding in general and the weird shimmery alpha (the low res smoke is a buffer issue, i.e. a texture; same for shadows, although they may change implementation again).

I'd like to see what PD can do with the GPGPU stuff (which I had no idea wasn't yet officially "supported" by Sony until recently - explains the poor showing on that front so far), since it should be made "available" to all developers around the time GT7 might release. You can guarantee PD will have contributed to the SDK's direction, not only because they're first party, but also given their prowess with the SPUs on PS3. I can't see much call for millions of particles constantly in a GT game, either, so they'd soon have found something else to do with that parallel power - there's nothing stopping other developers from writing their own implementations, too, but that's, like, more effort, which costs more.

The main improvements in GT6 photomode over GT6 real time are the per-pixel effects and bandwidth, because you have more time to render the frame. Everything else is still limited by the content produced for real-time gameplay. So GT7 real time could feasibly look better than GT6's photomode overall, if not necessarily in absolute (per pixel) "image quality".

It will look better, no argue.

Global illumination with PD lightning solutions will do miracles and enhanced geometry in all aspects will take care of the rest.

It's pretty hard to use a compressed 480p clip to judge what HD resolution would look like.

But I don't think GT7 will look like GT6 photomode, I think that GT7 will add more effects, like reflections, sun glare, mist, dust, more rain, maybe even wet track reflections.

I would be very dissapointed, if we only get GT6 photomode on PS4, after seeing trailers and pictures of driveclub and pCars. Don't get me wrong, GT6 had amazing graphics on PS3, but the PS4 can do everything better. The lightning, track details, and so on. Everything.

Enough for PS3? Yes. Enough on PS4? Nope.

The cars need work, too.

I am sure there's so much more to come: ambient lighting, reflections in standing water, rain, snow, sun glares, reflections on cars, particles in sand, grass and dust...

The tracks certainly need the most work, especially the older original tracks. Lots of awful textures around on those. Even some of the newer ones aren't great in places, shots looking back down Eau Rouge at Spa look bad because of the awful textures behind the stands.

Just saw pCARS for the PS4. GT7 has, A LOT, of remaking to do if they want to reach that level of quality and detail.

I agree.

Of couse everyone has her/his own opinion, but i can not understand, why anyone would be happy with GT6 1080p rocksolid 60FPS photomode Edition on PS4. Obviously PD pushed the PS3 to its limits with GT6, but the PS4 is much more powerful. As a result I demand and think PD will make more than a GT6 Premium version for PS4 and - once again - suprise us on PS4.

The main remaking I think they need to do is for their old assets which is more from PS2 era. Anyway it will be interesting to see how well pCARS can compete with GT7 in terms of graphics and performance, I will be surprised if it can beat GT.

Yes, we can be sure that they'll surprise us with innovative and unique features that most of us won't appreciate and would not ask for: starfield simulation, GPS tracking, b-spec etc. I hope for great online features (not only share your screenshot or video), sending a replay file to friends, dynamic weather, day/nigh on every track and a big bunch of new tracks and cars.

Going to be hard because PD should have had access to PS4 prototypes for quite a while now.

Agreed. :)

*Ahem* pCARS is waaaaay ahead right now. :mischievous:

GT7 should look better than pCARS, sure. It's being made (we assume) on a much higher budget by a first party Sony studio with privileged access to the console from day 0. That's not an excuse for SMS, just noting that PD should be expected to do a better job based on their resources.

As for gameplay/features, well that's up in the air. I've seen nothing to convince me PD will even try to compete with SMS in the direction they've gone for the game, I see them trundling along in the same direction they have for 15 years.

What? We haven't even seen anything for GT7 yet? He was saying he doesn't know which game will look better, that's all.

Listen, I know you're having fun being all negative or whatever. But can't it wait until there is a comparison to be made?

Yes way ahead, way ahead from a game that has not been announced, and of course, we know nothing about, no screenshots, no gameplay to compare with pCars

Yes, you are right
Pretty sure Toko is just saying that GT7 has a long way to go to catch up to what PCars is already doing on the PS4. They should catch up easily, PCars is on a veritable shoestring compared to PD's game development budget, but just having pretty graphics isn't going to cut it for the next gen. I think people are looking for more reality, more immersion, more of a "real" experience in their gaming.
