ERM, that's a 480p compressed YouTube slideshow of photos running at 5fps. Of no help whatsoever.
Oh don't worry. It's part of a stop motion animation project. When it's done it should be 1080p. On other note, your browser is probably lagging since it is 30 fps.

No, it was a culmination of 6 years work. GT6 the culmination of 8. Unless your next project starts from absolutely nothing part of the development was already done with the previous game, it's pretty simple.

But if we're just talking about the game as a culmination of what came before it than it is the product of way more time than 8 years. You said it yourself unless they start from scratch it's just building on what came before it. That holds true even across console generations because even when making a sequel for a whole new console you're not starting from scratch. Accumulation bears no relevance to the "point" Jawehawk was trying to make.

You're right it is pretty simple.

If you do a quick google search project cars just released some screen shots of the ps4 early build id think gt7 would be up there with them having played it on my pc with a 8 core cpu

I'm with Griff yet again on this one. PD will still try and produce the most excellent graphics on PS4 because they're visual artists, especially the Boss. But what I hope they do is build the game around a certain foundation. What I want to see is:
  • 1920x1080@60fps, minimal antialiasing, or user adjustable, with good frame processing, also user adjustable.
  • 24 liveried cars on track at once in rain and online, and able to handle standing starts.
  • Weather and time of day transitions on all tracks - forgot that one.
  • More humanlike A.I., and competition that isn't built around rubberbanding.
  • Reasonably good sounds.
  • Damage.
Start with this basis and tune the game around it. If they can add more, go for it. More cars is always a good thing, especially with multiclass racing.

And while this is a side topic, I think it's equally important. Some aspects of GT7 have to remain the same for the sake of the casuals, so Arcade and the GT Mode sandbox thing has to return. But as JohnnyP and others have said, and I harp on from time to time, there really needs to be a GT Pro Mode for those of us who want to really race in Gran Turismo, and get a taste of that competition which Kaz gets to experience first hand in real life motorsports.

I want a progression with this too, something resembling what everyone has to go through to get to the big leagues. They have a great model to follow in GT Academy, and they could go a few different ways with it. Begin with karting, or give us the option to skip it. Use License Tests or don't, but I think this is the one place in which both of those things could and I think should play a role.

I've mentioned the progression a few times, so let me say briefly that the Pro game should be structured in tiers of ever increasing power and cars with more performance, which you advance through in mini-seasons of ever increasing length to a championship series, which is the launchpad to the next tier. While there can be an economy, racing now is mostly for points and garnering sponsors. Credits are for paying your crew and keeping your car maintained.

This ultimately gets you to "graduate" to pro racing leagues, which you choose and race through a season to the championship. Just as with the pro leagues, you race for points and sponsora, and money goes into payroll and keeping your car performing nifty.

This shouldn't be hard for PD to implement, seeing as serious racing sims have only been out for a couple of decades or more. But one thing they could do is work on something basic that gives the game some structure and us something to do offline. And then give us a seriously powerful Event Maker good for creating entire racing seasons of any length off- or online, with special events and championships. Along with Course Maker II, Race Mod and a Livery Editor, this would give us stuff to do until we die of old age. Still, I'd prefer both, and for PD to give us events based around all these wonderful cars and tracks in racing series as they envision them.
This would be nice!
But let me do a PD on this.
License test check!
And there you go, game ready.
All else is coming in an update later ;)

I hope that the external view of GT7 looks like this

*Ahem* pCARS is waaaaay ahead right now. :mischievous:
pCARS has got along way to go to reach PD's 2007 level I imagine graphically so don't see how they can be way ahead. They need to first be succesful in this first pCARS game, depending on that they may be able to step up the detail for pCARS 2.

GT7 should look better than pCARS, sure. It's being made (we assume) on a much higher budget by a first party Sony studio with privileged access to the console from day 0. That's not an excuse for SMS, just noting that PD should be expected to do a better job based on their resources.

As for gameplay/features, well that's up in the air. I've seen nothing to convince me PD will even try to compete with SMS in the direction they've gone for the game, I see them trundling along in the same direction they have for 15 years.
I don't think it matters about console that much given that pCARS will be on PC but still GT may look considerably better in gameplay. pCARS is doing a great job with its budget though.

The gameplay side is what I'm interested in what will PD achieve, GT6 it seemed they didn't bother much with it in making it a challenging game due to maybe many placeholder elements in the game. That gives me hope though like with how PD do things (Either great or rubbish), they will finally be able to show their hand on the PS4.

Following that logic, GT6 actually took 15 years to make
That logic seems to be only used with GT, for some reason not with other games.
Let remember that from PCars claim that their physics will be at least as good as iRacing, what about GT7 physics?
Will the GT7 physics do the transition from simcade to simulation?
pCARS physics are a lot better than iRacing IMO, I do hope GT7 will also be at least better than iRacing as a minimum.

I hope that the external view of GT7 looks like this
I imagine it will look much better than that. They have a lot more memory to work with so texture quality should see a sizeable jump. Cloud simulation seems to be something they are working on going by the NSX trailer.

One thing is for sure. Graphics does not make a game good if its gameplay and features are lacking, just saying. ;)

My comment was directed about graphics. Anyway feature wise I think PD are looking very good on that front. Remains to be seen regarding gameplay but I wouldn't be surprised if PD jump from low point of GT6 to top spot with GT7.

We'll see I guess, although it's better to keep our expectations low. Because, you know, PD is on a record of disappointing us and everyone else, like, a lot. :sly:

Can you explain this because I don't get it and I'm sure others don't either.

I'd also like to know what PD were doing in 2007 that SMS hasn't surpassed. The cars are modeled in far higher detail, outside and inside. The tracks (once all are finished) will be much higher quality and they will have a full 24 hour cycle, dymanic weather etc, none of which PD had done by 2007. They also weren't doing car damage at all, SMS have fully deformable cars.

Not to mention full 1920x1080, 60FPS.

I would not mind if GT 7 won't have human-like AI. Just give me an Iracing multiplayer system and I will have lots of fun...

Everyone that have already played Iracing knows what I am talking about, especially when it comes about safety rating, irating etc...

Gran turismo would be easily one of the best sims to play online...

I had mentioned before that if GT7 has polite cruise missiles such as in Toca and the GTRs, that would suffice. But I really want the character of GT6's bots to carry over. There has been quite a discussion in Samus' bot A.I. analysis thread of their lackluster performance. But what has been glossed over has been the very good aspects which gets coaxed out of them if you use a lesser performing car in some of the later races, and as KamilCader posted, doing infinite lap races in Arcade Mode can wake the bots up too. My most gratifying races were those in which I raced towards the finish line with two or three bots nipping at my heels, which I had to race my lugnuts off to remain ahead of - and sometimes I still lost!

So a couple of thoughts on offline racing, because some of us just don't care for online. The skill levels are frequently much too lopsided, either miles behind a pack of leaders, or blowing away a bunch of kids, not to mention the crapshoot it is at times to find a clean room. Or the hassle of making and keeping schedules. What's more, there are quite a few gamers who have poor or no broadband access at home. There are a number of reasons single player offline needs to be up to snuff.

So, two points. There is a certain rhythm to a good race, with cars spreading out a bit into clusters of comparable racers. This is less significant in short two and three lap races, but I'm hoping there is a GT Pro Mode in GT7, and in it, longer races, the minimum being five laps. The karting, I'm not as enthusiastic about, but for car races, definitely. 5, 6, 7, 10, 12, 15, 20 lap races or more as you progress through the "season." It would be good to see the bots fighting each other like they do on occasion in GT5 and 6, and to feel like you're in a real battle for the lead as you make your way through the field. Pitstop strategy for the bots should be sensible too, for those races requiring pits.

Secondly, the intensity should pick up as the race progresses. Say you pass a couple of bots and they don't like it, and they try and keep up with you. It shouldn't be that you end up with a pack hounding your bumper endlessly, but often in real world racing, a driver ends up being chased through the field by someone they passed. And then on the final two laps, the pace should intensify, until on the last half of the final lap, the cars are going flat out, and there's a real battle for a podium finish.

I've been won over to the side advocating difficulty level in GT7, but it should only affect the scale of the race and consistent lap times, so the only difference is in the total time of the race.

And to involve something else in this line of reasoning, PD needs to make sure that there are enough cars in all classes for a full field of cars in every race, and a good variety of tracks to host them. Single make races are one thing, like SCCA's Miata Cup Series, but let's say there's a Compact Sports Car Series, suitable for light cars of 100-ish HP in the vein of the Miata, Cappuccino and so on. These should all be liveried in some way, not necessarily draped in some of the wild graphics applied to some of the WTCC or FIA GT cars, but something. And this is a point at which PD needs to hire a few graphic artists who can design a tasteful livery, because their designs so far have been rather lame. Tracks could be built using Course Maker and touched up by the modeling team, to suit the kinds of race locations enthusiast leagues operate.

Bump this up to 150-180hp or so, with cars along the lines of the Ford Focus, a bunch of Hondas, Mitsubishi Eclipse, Hyundai Tiburon and Velocitor, Chevy Cobalt and the like. Liveries begin to get a little more flamboyant, and the cars feature bodykits.

And on up the line until you reach pro racing leagues. I want as many leagues featured as possible, and if they can't license a league like the dreaded Formula 1, create fantasy leagues based on them. I want the full range of FIA GTs represented. I want to see full blown BMW and Mercedes, Aston Martin and Jaguar, Saleen and Ford GT, RUF/Porsche, Ferrari and Lamborghini race cars fighting each other. I also want to see an Asian League of some kind that would give us an arena to use cars like the Cizeta and Spirra, which should make great race cars. And of course, there need to be race locations appropriate to the league. So if NASCAR returns, and I expect it will, there need to be a number of oval tracks these guys can race on. If you can't license more locations, make fantasy ones. The same for DTM, FIA, WTCC, whatever. We need a bunch of tracks suitable for the league to race on. A lot of recycling can be done using the legacy tracks like Deep Forest, Trial Mountain, Apricot Hill... Midfield... Seattle.... ;)

Kaz, please make this happen. You'll be a hero.

After seeing this picture: (i know its not the best quality)

Thats the least iam expecting, but this is also the last thing we can expect, because they wont have the time to touch gameplay or AI or... :)

What if PD scrapped all AI and offline stuff other than coursemaker and free practice and ghostcars.
All else multiplayer.
Full focus on best netcode, graphics, sound, physics, and customizations.
Let all cars be free from start so people can start tweaking and painting and changing stuff.
That can be really fun.

Well it would be -1 sale from me and i'm sure a lot of people. Having to build a single player game should in no way be an excuse for any of those things you mention not being up to scratch. They're a well funded first party studio, they should be capable of doing it all, and doing it well.

Obviously I'm with Samus on this one. In my post above, I pointed out a few of the essential reasons Gran Turismo needs a solid single player offline game.

There are elements of good A.I. code in the bots, it just needs some tweaking. And I guess it's my fault for dragging this thread way off topic, so I'll head over to threads more appropriate for those discussions.

That's a great idea...if you're looking at it from the perspective of Forza, PCars, Grid Autosport etc. Because that's where the 90% of the fanbase that never goes online will end up:lol:

I have always liked how Polyphony handles the visuals with each new GT title. GT4 looked out of this world when it first came out. Stop by the Photomode parts of the forums to see some stunning GT5/GT6 shots. That being said, I'm not worried about the visual fidelity of GT7. What I am worried about is the audio. I would rather have a GT6 looking game with good audio than another GT title with great visuals but horrible audio.

The same way PD has gained a reputation of late release dates, they have also gained (at least for me) a reputation of having an amazing eye for detail and a group of fantastic visual artists. As far as I'm concerned, GT7 will look great.
I'm more focused on aspects that PD has been falling short on, such as audio and immersion.

Here's a video that is now not compressed and 30 frames a second.

I can see this too.
But upcoming big titles and many
great selling games are all about multiplayer. See Drive Club where it is heading. Offline can be fun if you mix in some online parts anyway.

But im off topic now too sorry.

People have been saying that for 15 years!

Much as people have been saying "now that the graphics are this good, perhaps games developers will focus on gameplay instead". Maybe it's true this time!

Yes way ahead, way ahead from a game that has not been announced, and of course, we know nothing about, no screenshots, no gameplay to compare with pCars

Yes, you are right
Pcars had been developed since 2011. So yes, at the moment, he is right.

I do expect some GT7 stuff coming out really soon. First thing they will show off is probably graphics and potential of ps4.

They shouldn't be showing their new product until they've finished the last one.
If gt7 is going to solve everything, let's give pd this one, eh?

Why?
Ps4 game so for me it has nothing to do with GT6 other than as benchmark how much better it will be (i hope).

No, besides that is a big if. People paid money for this product, they're entitled to get the full thing before the company thinks about the next one.

Why? It's pretty simple business, you don't start talking about your next product before you've finished the last one, especially if you made promises to deliver certain things. Customers don't take too kindly hearing a company talk about how awesome their next product is going to be when the product they bought isn't working/isn't finished/isn't as described or whatever.
