Personally I don't give a damn how many square miles it is, it's rather irrelevant if many of those miles are devoid of anything interesting as was the case with a lot of San Andreas. It's that phrase again but quality over quantity still stands, although I guess it's rather quality over size in this case. I don't want to see a landscape huge for the sake of it.

Same here. That why I loved about San Andreas, the large vast map with three cities and surrounding countrysides. I have hundreds of places just to drive around to enjoy and to start chaos and mayhem to the State of SA.

I kind of agree with both. There needs to be a balance. Hooning around in the desert or hills is fun, but a 15 minute drive across the map to get between places gets old after a few times too.

I don't want a Red Dead Redemption style map with 5 building then nothingness for ages till the next couple of buildings.

Granted a bit of this up north or south or you get the gist is ok, but don't over do it.

Nothingness? I don't find side missions, plant picking, and hunting to be nothing. I actually would spend hours hunting, just out in the most secluded areas. Besides, its the old west. What do you expect around the industrial revolution with transportation being limited to horse back and trains?

It will be fine, we'll have a massive city for starters and I imagine the environment will be more varied and if they have taxis like in GTA IV then there's no problem.

I hope the Trip Skip option comes back with the option of re-purchasing all your weapons at the hospital/police station before starting over again comes back.

And a checkpoint system needs to be severely implemented. I like a huge map but having to drive all over hells creation for one mission thats tough as hell gets old really fast.

That's why creating a good balance between campaign and free roam is critical.

I agree. The west side of New Austin was very baron compared to the east. (building-wise)

Anyway, San Andreas had a pretty good balance of open road and villages/towns. 👍
Maybe Rockstar has done the same? (but obviously bigger :p)

And I agree Slashfan, we need checkpoints. 👍

Slashfan
I strongly disagree.

Oh I could honestly care less about checkpoints. I was just being funny when I posted that.

But I do see the reasoning why you guys want checkpoints in missions.

Wasn't there something of the sort foor a few missions in GTA 4? Very few missions had it, where once you start the mission (if you had already tried and failed before and there was a long drive involved) you can skip the drive and go straight to the location. That I wouldn't mind too much because it would be optional most likely like how it was in IV. Other than that, I personaly enjoy the drive.

Their might have been. "Trip Skip" is what I think it might have been called. I like the drive too.

That was in the III era games, can't remember for 4. I like the drive once, then it gets boring.

I flew an Annihilator everywhere because I'm lazy. 👍

Maybe GTA V will encourage me to drive more, lol.

Interesting concept of an endless desert, like the endless ocean we already have.

Good read.

Also another interesting concept from Reddit was "active radio". As you do something completely insane (say drive a buss off Mt. Chiliad full of people, go on a rampage), basically what happens is that new reports what happened. Might be a lot of extra work though.

Another thing was that after a certain number of wanted stars an alert is issued over the radio for people in a certain area to stay away from there, to go inside, lock their doors etc.

What about when you get too far away from the radio tower? Static over the radio because the signal can't reach?

An endless desert? I guess, there could be a chance of it being implemented, but who knows? - I do like the idea of getting mirages (I got that from the article), while being in the desert - that would be cool :D!

I agree it would be cool so long as it isn't overdone. I definitely want to be able to get lost but I don't want it get so lost it becomes frustrating to leave it.

Exactly what I mean! Getting too lost will just be frustrating :boggled:.

Yeah it gets annoying. But when I can be that immersed in the game, that's what makes it special. San Andreas did just that when it came out.

I think it would be impossible to get lost in the desert - there is always going to be a mission marker of some sort on the radar. If not, add a custom one.
Trashing your vehicle way out there would suck though...

Good point, hadn't thought of that. It was always rubbish rolling your car in the middle of nowhere in San Andreas.
