They have their own music label that helps handle music copyright & they have a different deal structure in place. V has 440+ licensed music, around 200+ is what we hear on the radio stations. Rockstar also likes to get more unknown, smaller artists to create music on some of the radio stations & these are much easier to pay fees for due to "exposure".

To my re-collection, none of V's music has been pulled since the launch in 2013 & I know at least 1-2 radio stations have been added in that time frame. I wouldn't worry about music in VI.

Well GTA V has been in continuous development since launch and raking in cash. It's probably been worth it to renew licensing deals. I'll be very interested to see what happens once GTA VI goes live and V shifts into maintenance mode.

That’s wild. Not surprising, but wild. Wikipedia reads GTA V made ten billion over its lifetime. Wonder if that three billion will be surpassed if R* release GTA6 expansion like TLAD and TBOGT for GTA6 character arcs.

It will be likely surpassed as we get closer to launch & more info comes out. And then of course, remasters & "Enhanced" editions that VI will probably get.

Much of V's billions also comes from it being intertwined with Online since the beginning. In the past few years, though, Rockstar has separated them allowing you to buy Story Mode or Online & I personally think that is what will happen by Dec./January, hence why there has not been a single peep about VI's online mode. I think Rockstar wants full focus on the Story of VI b/c Online will be its own $30-$40 "game" you'll have to purchase & then need a PS/Xbox sub. to play whilst they use GTA+ to profit off it. That's potentially $600,000,000-$650,000,000 right off the bat if they can get 20 million people to buy into it & a small fraction of them to sign up for GTA+ in the first month.

Not trying to be a devil's advocate here and definitely not trying to defend R* and take2 because God knows they don't need me for that...but with all the gripes and comments regarding the 2 versions of the game and stuff being locked behind a paywall etc....
I do have to ask how is that any different than say Apple or Google releasing different versions of the same phone? One version fully loaded with everything and the other version getting just enough so they could still get you to pay nearly a thousand for it. Mind you they released a so call "new" one every single year and every year millions of people upgrade for literally the same thing with some barely noticeable improvements....Here's another examples, why do car companies make different trims of the same cars? They could as easily have all the cars come standard with everything and sell just the 1 model but no, pay an extra 10K and you'll get the tinted strip on your windshield and an exclusive air freshener for your car that you can't smell anymore the moment you drop the windows. I'm exaggerating but my point is an extra $20 to get more content is being looked at as if R* has committed one of the worst crime of the century.

Again, I'm not trying to defend them but literally every big company on this planet is doing the exact same thing with their product so what's the big deal for an extra $20? At the end of the day, they are a business, whether we like or not and the goal of a business is to be as profitable as much as possible and if that will help them make even more money, well guess what, they've achieved their goal. As a consumer, I don't know the first thing about making video games but I do like to play them. It sucks that gaming is another thing that's getting more expensive and has been on that trajectory for years now but we also say that about everything else in our lives. So might as well spend what you can afford and enjoy it for as long as you can.

You don't even need to make up daft, non-analagous ones (cars/phones costing more when they have more bits on which cost more to manufacture ≠ developers removing access to assets which are right there in the game and selling them back as a premium perks - which isn't paying for more content, but paying more to not have less content) when there's examples like car manufacturers including all the bits and selling you access or a subscription to them that are already ideal comparisons...

BMW have learned from the games industry it seems, with the UK (and a few other markets) now getting cars fitted with items such as seat heaters and steering wheel heaters, which BMW will then charge you a monthly subscription to 'unlock'!

In the trailers there are the two girls making social media videos. What is that for? Are they playable characters or do they work into telling the story of Lucia and Jason? The other characters being showcased seem like we will interact with them more than a few times.

The Real Dimez characters and their crew, managers, etc. Will they just be like past side characters or will they have influence in how the main characters grow?

Going back to GTA V, Lester was that character that got the crew their jobs. Connected them to various crew members. I’m thinking will this be just more of the connections or do they help with street cred?

I’m telling y’all. I’m thinking of these things in that there must be more in how R* utilise technology this time.

I’ve actually been playing GTA V again. That’s awesome to have limited weapons. I wonder if that means being more cautious with interactions with other avatars. Since there will be gangs of people and cops and even in low populated areas with more wildlife. Would make players think more before trying to unalive everything in sight.

Seriously, causing public mayhem might make viral videos and be harder to elude cops and maybe rivals and such with avatars recording our characters.

You asked what makes me think objecting to this means not objecting to any of the other thing I'm whatabouting, well the answer is absolutely nothing. Besides, that’s not even the point I was trying to make. I’m not here to moralize about which pricing tactic we should object to or not. And I’ll say it again, I’m also not trying to defend R*. I’m pointing out that this situation isn’t some shocking outlier. It’s just another version of the same tiered‑pricing bs that every major company already uses.

At the end of the day, I’m being offered a product that I don’t need but might want. I can choose to buy it or ignore it. That’s the only part of this equation that I think actually matters. Companies breakdown their products, attach different price points by adding different bits and/or removing them, and people buy whatever matches the experience they want and/or whatever they can afford. To me, this is just another form of that.

And for the record, as it stands, I am going to buy the ultimate version. Not because I’m guzzling it down and be part of the problem as you said but because that’s the version that will give me the full experience of the game without anything being locked behind a paywall. Does that mean I agree with the practice? No, not really. But it won't change a darn thing to say I object when literally every other company on the planet does the same thing in one form or another. It's the normal state of how things are sold to consumers.

So buy it, don’t buy it, whatever. You do you. The only real power any of us have is deciding what we’re willing to pay for. And honestly, I'm positive R* knows that and it's probably why they did it this way. I think they also figured that if they had released one single version of the game with everything included at the roughly $160 price tag (which is what the Ultimate version will cost me here in Ontario with taxes included), people would probably be even louder about it for being too expensive.

What’s the idea with an inclusion of one month GTA+ here? The new GTAO won’t be here, so we’re referring to the old GTA Online? Why would someone keep playing that once GTA VI is out? Is the idea to get people to forget their free one month and have a subscription keep running?

GTA+ itself is such a lame setup, it’s insane people are actually on it. Various small bonuses that you can do perfectly fine without and the cream of the crop, being subscribed to GTA+ gives you “offers” (!!!) on shark cards. It’s bizarre. The only redeemable part are the includes games — my question to anyone who’s ever had it or is sure because I’m not, can you claim these and play them whenever even if you cancel after a potential free one month?
