Standing or Rolling starts?

Manual starts are easy, just takes a little discipline, single file, no accelerating and braking rapidly. Like I say, it also gives those of us in the GTPES some practice of start procedures too. 👍
getting everyone to run around and go at the same time is the problem

Standing starts only please....note I'm an FF so technically I'm making it harder for myself.
but your Volvo starts like an FR ;)

Don't care, love this pic (and it's related :p)

Ill say this again, if you want equal starts then go with rolling starts, brings more meaning to qualifying.

At Monaco me and agro was P1 and P2 in qualifying but trueblue smoked us into the first corner, A BMW was also close. That's not fair and ruins qualy imo.

Just open a poll and let the majority choose. I know what cars would vote no

I'd rather do rolling starts regardless of the drivetrain, especially if I'm on pole, always a great feeling when you get the jump on someone napping... 👍

If as Ninja says its just the lead drivers call, they can go at any point in the final sector and its up to everyone else to react then I can see this working.

I assume this just leaves a no passing before the finish line rule?

Not really. If there's a specified pace speed as long as nobody starts accelerating and braking irratically it's easy enough. Like I say, just needs a little discipline. I've done plenty of manual rolling starts, most of which have been in series with Heavy damage, where if you make a mistake or take your eye off the ball the penalty is far greater.

Yes, unless there's a safety car line that can be used instead. But S/F line works just as well. 👍

In that case I am in favour.

All we'd have to do is add an extra lap to the race distance, maybe 5 minutes at a maximum added to each race to accommodate the pace lap. I would say single file though, double file is possible but trickier. Also maybe a ruling on maintaining a certain distance between cars, as in within a certain distance so teammates cannot disadvantage the pack.

Sounds like sense to me, single file would be far easier.

I don't mind either kind of start, but preferably rolling, please.

I have an idea which I thought of awhile ago. giving it a try with evo now.....

Maybe you need to put a vote up on it Blue, I know I not even want to test it.
It means manual starts, call out of pits all line up and then drive slowly round a track.

No, you just do a pace lap from the grid. Easy-peasy... 👍

@Famine would you be able to remove the poll so we can add another in please. Sorry for bothering and thanks

Ok, so it didn't work with @RacingLine basically in BTCC they have made the 1st gear on FR cars longer. I thought maybe if an FR car starts in 2nd gear it won't get away as well. Nope, still jumped him :/

What do you think it will start like when we have a rolling start? ;)

There is more skill involved with launching from a standing start, the anticipation is exciting and the tyre smokescreen is great to see too. There is no way that a rolling start will be more fun, it will just benefit FF cars more, basically it'll be a role reversal, FF cars can utilise their power:weight ratio and get ahead of the FR's before turn 1.

The poor suckers at the back of the grid will be miles behind the leader in comparison to a standing start too. Imagine a rolling start at Tsukuba, the leader will already be around turn 1 before the last place guy has made it around the final turn of the pace lap.

Finally, the schedule is already impossibly tight with no movement for issues, let alone adding an extra 3,4 or 5 minutes to a race to allow for a poxy rolling start.

Very difficult to enforce as well.

Last part has been one of my key issues 👍

check on the replays. and if it did work, drivers who didn't use it would fly away, so easy to spot

EDIT - Thanks Famine

It benefits the pole sitter more, a rolling start avoids the advantage they've gained being instantly negated, not to mention the anticipation of trying to go with the leader. Personally, after the start at Monaco I was involved in last night, where I emerged with Left Front, Right Front, Right Rear and Engine damage, it makes that run into St. De Vote safer too, if admittedly not being as excited as a tradeoff.

I'm easy either way but if we go Rolling, which is my preference, manual rolling is the way to go in my opinion.

Just checked and it would have to be rolling

IMMORTAL, EVO and ettick are all in here. come join me, I don't want to embarrass myself

I'm on the standing start.

I chose a FR beacuse season two I was sick of seeing a FR pass me from two rows back when we started. Then it would get in the way to turn one. Lol.

Also I know what will happen is P1 will go, P2 won't react, P3 will and bump bump bump.

Also I noticed last night with the pens. They are fine as long as you have a draft. Once your down power and don't have a draft your a dead stick.

Also just apologizing for my not being very active here, problem ive stopped getting emails as frequently for it and there are now over 40 pages of comments and its kinda hard to keep up
