From the point you stop accelerating at wide-open-throttle, you can drift, grip, or whatever and it only affects your line in the cornering section. As long as you're gripping for acceleration at the corner exit sooner than later, it's all good. Besides, passing (perhaps irresponsibly) in a corner usually consists of drift maneuvers "in the world of Gran Turismo!"
Maneuvering is maneuvering, and unless you're going for a time trial lap, you just need to navigate the course and get around the opponents' cars. I WANT TO SEE LARGE SLIP ANGLES BEFORE AND DURING CORNERING, PLEASE!
